and let's not forget the Library has more open spaces suitable for both trigger and retreat-style combat as well as classic close quarter shotgun combat. the combat is enjoyable and this can hardly be said about "Cortana". this is without doubt the worst level of all Halo games and was a huge struggle for me on Heroic. i wonder if i will ever be able to do it on Legendary.

currently i'd rank Halo 3's campaign quality even behind Halo 2, taking into account the weak story conclusion and the overall weaker combat. Halo clearly has the purer, more exciting combat. all this gimmickery like 4 grenade types and lots of needless equipment just water down the experience for me. but i know my opinion may change with further playthroughs, especially on Legendary difficulty.

Okay I'm managing normal, to an extent, I tried Heroic and got killed alot, is there any hope for me ever completing Legendary? are there people that continuously try, no matter how many hundreds of times they get killed to complete the hardest difficulty?

Also is the main game alot easier in Co-op? if it is, i'll try legendary with a mate/someone online sometime to complete it.

You have to change your playing style on the harder difficulties. Cover is all that seperates you from life and death, that and having the right weapons and not being afraid to run away and hide at the slightest sign of trouble.

OK people, I'm going back in...

Just me and that bloody level. If you PM me or invite me I'll be too busy with the running and the screaming and the jumping and the dying to reply!

Two men enter...one man leaves! Well OK, one man and one level but you know what I mean.

There will be swearing like man has never heard before and may never hear again.

We will swear at them on the beaches etc, etc...

              PLAN A
              - Run, jump, runnity, jumpity, runnity, jump, jump...
PLAN B - Jumpity, run, run, jump, runnity, jumpity, run, jump, run...

Done this on Heroic today, finally. Loved it, from beginning to end... yes, even the "dreaded" Cortana level, which isn't half as bad as some of you made out.

Legendary now, then Skull Hunting and finally, Metascoring, all sprinkled with plenty of MP. Damn, this game has some legs!

The Cortana level isn't that bad at all, it just needs to be played differently than the others. Just like the Library in Halo. It's almost like going back to Serious Sam or Doom, completely non-stop shooting. I agree that it is difficult to find your way around, but it is not a bad level.

what the bloody hell was the crack with that big blue/white flash off that planet the chief and cortanna were drifting past!?!? was that his dying? was it totally irrelevant? meh

                    Anyway... great game!

I think that one cutscene was the whole reason the video calibration tool came with the CE and LE versions of the game, look more carefully next tim and you'll see the planet is actually covered in metal! Planet Cybertron!

I still don't get the scoring, managed to get 22000 something individual points on the Ark playing 2 player co op but the achievement still didn't unlock. My friend had an even higher score and he didn't get it either .

everyone dies alot on heroic and legendary, the thing is that unlike alot of games the Halo series is generaly fair (despite the odd friendly A.I mess up). So its all doable and highly satisfying.

As for the person who said this has a worse campaign than Halo 2.... what are you smoking? thats all I want to know.

Edit: I have to admit though, the bit with the two scarabs is a pain on the higher diffuculties and really requires more luck than judgement. Besides that though my biggest tip would be that the game is all about decsions.... if that makes sense... mainly concerning weapons. I was stuck on one bit of level 3 for ages on heroic till i realised there was a box full of battle rifles next to me.

I dont know, I got to the library twice in the orginal Halo and never actualy completed it, it wasnt till recently I actualy bothered to be honest, This Level in Halo 3 certainly didnt make me feel like that, though maybe thats more to do with the games as a whole than anything else not sure.

That's because you need 50000 for that level :P

The Library was possibly my favourite level in the original Halo...! Cortana was nowhere near as good, due to the lack of room to manouver in the level and those annoying sniper monsters. Still nowhere near as bad as some people have made it out to be though.

For me level 2 was the low point due to it's abysmal visuals and repetetive gameplay. Yellow corridors seemingly forever. I also thought the 2nd half of the last level was dull, again due to awful graphics and boring repetetive gameplay. Yes it'a an homage of sorts to Halo 1, but it was so wide open and barren and also so ridiculously easy (Halo 1 at least put up a challenge there on Heroic and Legendary) it just wasn't any fun and a poor conclusion to the game.

That aside, I watched the documentaries on the 2nd disc tonight and found them pretty soulless and boring. Nowhere near as good as the susprisigly honest docu that came with Halo 2. The crunch docu was probably the best, as the rest were really just Bungie saying 'look how great we are', when the actual tech and art in the finished game is far from top tier.

Still a thoroughly entertaining game though, one of the best this year. (but not I feel, in the same league as Bioshock)

Thats funny as I breezed that today, I was playing that level through to get 2 of the skulls so I put on Heroic plus 3 or 4 different skulls to up the difficulty and I downed both Scarabs first time in under 2 minutes. Was easy peasy, and that was like my 5th play through of that level though!
