Surely the skill in sniping is having a sharp eye and being able to spot small movements that are far off in the distance? Not doing battle with a game pad - you know exactly where you want to aim, but the communication between the player and the game doesn't always allow for it.

Sniper kills with a joypad take skill. God forbid Halo should become yet another sniper fest.
Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against M + KB on PC games but even then, I'd rather be able to plug a pad in. Thats why I'm looking forward to playing HL2 soon on the 360 pad!

As a big fan of Silent Scope, I'm pretty certain that the skill required to snipe with a pad is much more like a proper sniper rifle than a mouse ever is.

I consider myself a gamer. I couldn't really give a toss what platform a game is on. If its a good game, thats all that matters so I'm not sure what being similar to a PC Zone writer has to do with it. Its pretty logical that seeing as the PC is the machine for FPS's, and console FPS's are still relatively new, comparisons are made.
The game as a package is amazing, especially for a Halo fan. I just think for myself, the single player was very uninspiring in comparison to games I have played before with really only the middle 3 levels shining through.
I played a fair bit of CTF, Territories etc over the weekend and had some fun. Again though, its nothing that games like Unreal Tournament haven't been doing for years. Yes, the front end and options are amazing, but when push comes to shove and you get into the game itself, I guess I was expecting more of an experience than what I had had many years ago.
Your comments on Quake strike me as strange. At the time Quake revolutionised multi-player gaming. The gameplay was absolutely pure. Halo 3's impact for console gaming is huge, but imo its not for FPS gaming as a whole.
Halo 3 isnt revolutionary, even on consoles it isnt, and the reason I compared you to PC zone was becuase like their writers you were almost talking down to console gamers by saying "Halo 3 is revolutionary for console gamers". I dont know if you meant too, but you came across as thinking yourself superior for playing shooters on the PC, you still clearly are taking the same tone in this post too. You also say Halo 3's impact is huge for console gamers... this is also untrue, especialy considering the fact that its so "uninspired" as you noted. Halo was an important console game, it was an important game in general, Halo 3 is just a great one.
Anyway I stand by my opinion that Halo 3 still has better gameplay than any PC first person shooter since half life 2... maybe its not the most inspired thing ever, but as someone who loves purely brilliant gameplay I personaly have to love it. I dont even play multiplayer shooters often by the way, this is me talking soley about the quality of its campaign.Last edited by rmoxon; 01-10-2007, 19:12.

I agree, there hasn't been any shooter on the PC that is close to CS 1.6, and that is OLD, and the scene is dead; its **** now imo etc...
Halo 3 if an awesome game, it only really competes with PC shooters because it is online like them, I myself will continue to play Halo 3 for a while, like I did 1.6. Basically lack of good online FPS' on the PC made me buy the 360 :|. But RTS games are unrivled on the PC!
Back on topic; Really enjoyed the game, like someone else said it felt exactly the right length. I was somewhat dissapointed with the ending however, but meh the multiplayer makes up for that.

also a lot of puzzles are left for me, as for instance,
why does the Prophet of Truth not fire the Halo rings when he has the chance? but instead prefers to wait for the cavalry to arrive at the scene?
There are a lot of things you have to suspend your disbelief for in Halo, though that isn't to excuse the complete disregard for the flood still on Delta Halo and the skimming over what happens to the Brutes at the 'end' when Hood declares the war over.
As for Guilty Spark calling the Chief 'Forerunner'. I thought it was more or less confirmed that humans were part of the same race and left behind, as someone earlier in this thread pointed out to the Prophet of Truth insinuating in a late cutscene.

I've admittedly always been a sniping bastard on halo, and as such am able to wield the controller FAR better than I can the M +KB. This is from someone thats been playing Quake/UT and so on, constantly for years.

For me the reason I don't like it is that for one, the only enemies are the flood and I don't enjoy fighting them much, and for two, the environment is very bland and so repetetive to the point you aren't sure at times if you've gone in a big circle or are in fact on the right spot! It's completely different from the rest of the game for me, because the rest of the game is simply sublime.
you first have to fight the flood, about level 5 or so, where you first find Cortana
or is it another, more annoying level later on?I'm halfway through level 6, pacing myself

Because the delay is there for dramatic setup.

Not sure about the Brutes although Halo 3 seemed to imply that either the Elites were extremely cocky or they were much better at ship battles as the Shipmaster or Arbiter replies when told that the Brutes outnumber them three to one that the odds are even.
I thought 'Reclaimer' was a Forerunner designation which Guilty Spark and Penitent Tangent (or whatever the Delta Halo's monitor was called) both referred to the Master Chief as. It's not just the armour either as they also called a marine in the Library a reclaimer.

Thanks to EvilB!
I turned on the iron skull and then whenever a member of the party dies, you go back to the last (frequent) checkpoint.
BRILLIANT! Turns the whole game around and makes it a tactical slow paced affair, much more to my taste.
We played level 1 on legendary, but couldn't get past the end of level structure, just too damn hard!
I'm up for trying that again, and feel just like a did when I first played GRAW chapter 2 on coop, "I'll never beat this." But I know I will, and it will be be ooooh so satisfying!
Nice work to Bungie for adding a skull which completely changes the pace of the game.
This won't be sold now, I have the whole thing to do on Legendary! The design and AI shine at this level IMHO, and I enjoyed the game more than any other session.
Game on.
On the downside, every few hours of coop the game starts to stutter and I have to reboot. Anyone else get that?
