I'm pretty sure I did the other day; he just said something like "Hello there Arbiter" and then got blown up! I think it was on Tsavo Highway. Shame, I would have liked to see what else he had to say!

What difficulty would be best to play on (heroic with more skulls, legendary with less skulls), should I go for the time multiplier or just take it slow and steady to keep the death penalties down?
If youre playing Solo, heroic seems the best way to get good scores and you should always turn on the Fog skull as you never miss the radar as much as you would think. The other skulls depend on what level youre playing. Level 5 for instance is relativley easy if you use the Mystic and Black Eye skull, as its flood only, so they are generaly easy to get up close and whack in the face to kill.

For the rest I'd just say experiment, the tough luck skull dosnet seem to do much but ocasionaly make a few more grunts run at you with grenades in both hands, so that ones pretty easy to go with too.

It`s no secret on these boards that I`ve been totally against the Halo franchise but Halo 3 is the reason I haven`t posted here for a week, absolutely loving it. I still stand by my opinions of the first two games but Halo 3 really has suprised me.

I was only considering buying Halo 3 for the MP game but I`ve found myself really enjoying the SP game, after finishing heroic I`m on my second playthrough completing the meta games. After the first level I was left a little disappointed and then all of a sudden I was thown into this epic battle to save earth. Other than the later level that looks like you`re crawling around in someones anus, this game is sublime.

As for the MP, I`m loving it! Not played any Gears of War or Shadowrun, two games that I`ve been battering of late. The MP game for me is both great fun and frustrating in equal measures, but as much I enjoy the game I don`t understand its n00b/melee friendlyness.

I`ve lost count of the times I`ve had people one bullet from dead for them to lunge from half the map away like they are on a skateboard and kill me with a melee whilst I`ve still been in good health, very annoying! I`ve trawled the internet to try and find out how you do the melee lunge and I still don`t know, it`s like the best kept secret in the world!

Other than the annoying melee bull****, the only other thing I dislike about the MP is the nonexistance of any kind of game filter. With consoles catching up with PCs regarding their ability to support massive online MP gaming communities, why hasn`t there been a console game yet where you can filter in/out certain maps, mods, gametypes or even server location? After playing shotty snipers on The Pit for the third time in a row, this is something that needs looking at.

That aside I still enjoy the MP and I think the theatre mode is top drawer. Looking back over games from any angle and any perspective is genius. With a game that produces so many comedy moments, the theatre mode is worth its weight in gold.

In summing up, this is a really enjoyable game which is certainly taking up all my time at the moment, but with as many fights decided by a melee than with a bullet, it makes Halo 3 a good game rather than a great one in my opinion.

I`m currently doing the meta games on just normal mode and on the levels where you need 15,000 I`m getting 20,000 - 30,000 and on the levels where you need 50,000 I`m getting 60,000 - 80,000 without breaking sweat.

I activate Fog, Tough Luck, Mythic, Thunderstorm, Famine and just for fun I also have the Grunt`s Birthday Party (you don`t need that one for scores though). All should need to do is complete the levels as there are plenty of points to be had.

Easiest way to net META achievements; Play Campaign on Normal with the following skulls enabled; Catch, Fog, Famine and/or Tough Luck.

Doing it this way greatly reduces the chances of multiple deaths and point lossage. Grunts are nearly accurate with their Plasma Grenade throws though, but the milestones are achievable when you factor in multipliers and what-not.

Also, the quicker you get the level done, the better multiplier you get awarded at the end.

For example; on my first Sierra 117 run, had 11,000 points by mission end, but owing to finishing the level in about 16 minutes, I finished with 22,000.

A few bullets from a br or ar then a melee pressing b on the pad is about the best combo you can have on the game.

Melee has always been a massive part of the way to play halo, though in MP you cant actualy kill anyone in one hit with a Melee attack, so its not just about it... though you can melee again quicker by switching weapons first if youre quick.

There are other tricks too... as for the Melee lunge... err... always just thought that was the normal Melee attack. As in you know, press B and you do it.

As for the lack of a filter, The Halo skill ranking system is suppose to be a general thing, so bungie probabaly think it would mess the whole thing up if you only played games you were great at. best you can do is always Veto shotty snipers, most other people do now anyway.

Really? didnt think it would work as well on normal becuase of the worse multiplier? I have done most of them on heroic now, but I suppose playing on Normal should make the Cortana one easier though at least.

Yeah, it`s just that when I attempt it I just swing my gun rather than slide, I miss and then I die. I very rarely kill anyone with a melee.

My mate Trev that I play with often seems to do it all the time but he doesn`t know how he`s doing it, he just presses "B". If anyone has time I have two vids of Trevor in action on my Halo 3 file share, they are unbelievable and I`m lucky to execute a lunge at less than half the distance he achieves them.

It also depends on what gun you are holding when you melee as to how much damage and range you have with it... and the timing is important too, you should try and swing a little befoire you think you need too. It looks like youre missing and dying, but chances are they are actualy hitting you first.

Obviously on the ocasions you have bad lag you are not gonna have much of a chance whenever you have a melee fight too.

I think this is more down to lag/latency? It seems more common in Halo3, but was there in Halo2. I know what you mean, your gunning somone down from a good few feet away, the next moment he's next to you boshing you on the head! Similar to the sword lock on, but with melee.
I'm pretty sure it's not a feature, but then again what do I know?! I only discovered the green bolt of fire the Banshee spews by pressing the 'B' button yesterday!!!!

I posted a couple of extreme lunge vids yesterday http://ntsc-uk.domino.org//showpost....postcount=1025 showing off what I think your talking about.

Not experienced it myself as yet, but by those vids it's more than a little over the top !

I think it has to do with latency, I had it several times that someone in a firefight was all in a sudden next to me and hit a gun on my ugly head... very annoying, and indeed it looks just like the sword lock on....
Each time they were for sure to far away to actually hit me... but hey, that's all part of the online play, I try not to get annoyed by it, I just try to get them with alot of bullits and grenades before they come close.... cause I'm Johnny Rambo !

He's one of the final stages of the Flood development. When they first start out, like in Halo 1, they're basically mindless zombies that just try to assimilate everything. When they get big enough they start to develop a 'brain' (like what

                              Captain Keyes

was being merged into in the first game), which eventually becomes a Gravemind with the ability to control the whole Flood.

The Delta Halo in Halo 2 already had a Gravemind because the Flood there hadn't been contained and had been fighting the Sentinels there for 100,000 years (see the Quarantine Zone level) and so had fully developed. That's also why the Flood in Halo 2 and 3 had more intelligence, using vehicles, flanking and such, and would also talk to you with Gravemind's voice, because he was controlling them and giving them more purpose than running towards people.

There's a nice explanation of Flood origins and development here.
