Aye, me too. Maybe he's switched off while playing? I know with Ravenholme that there was no way I was going there but then some rocks fall or something blocking your path and you're forced to go there, IIRC. Damn, I'm gonna go play it now you got me thinking about it. Time to turn the bass up, grab a combine rifle. Duhm duhm duhm duhm.

I'm half way through Episode 2, and... I'm actually not enjoying it as much as I thought.
I'm sure it's because of "Half-Life 2 fatigue", because I replayed most of HL2 and Episode 1 first. (I didn't actually intend to, it just kinda happened).
Unfortunately, I'm now quite tired of all the usual gameplay mechanics. See-saw physics puzzles; zombie rooms; poison headcrabs in stairwells; restoring power to things; the same old ways to kill zombies; Alyx and her constant "Come on Gordon," "This way, Gordon," "We have to get the thing to the thing, Gordon..."
The new environments add some "newness", but I didn't really enjoy the
antilion caves
much. And one of the new enemies, the
acid-spitting antlion,
is my new least favourite enemy ever. They shouldn't be so damaging and irritating.
Eh, I dunno. It's quite good I guess. I should have played it first, that's all.

Finished Episode 1. First half was drab drab drab. Really. I had to make myself keep playing. Second half was fantastic.
What is it it with Valve and dark flashlit sewers.... they've got this great City 17 and rather than exploit it to the full they stick you in dark confined tunnels. Bizarre. Just bizarre.

Anyone care to explain?

I've only played the first half of HL1 and don't have a PC any more. Just read up on the story through wikipedia and it all makes sense now, at least the Gordon/G-Man relationship anyway.
I'm a bit confused about the headcrabs and other aliens now though. Are they part of the Combine race or members of the Xen?

Yeah, while this is obvious if youve played through the games and actualy thought about it enough its never really explained either. The "first person storytelling" of the half life games deffinitley has its faults in that there is really moment in the game that actualy lays out any kind of solid plot for you, its more about the immersion than the actual story really.
You deffinitley have to listen and think hard to understand everything.Last edited by rmoxon; 29-10-2007, 01:21.
