To be honest, there's a lot of Star Wars like character design in there, but I welcome it lots. There is some other lovely looking design elsewhere, for example I really like Ashley's white armour she's wearing when you first meet her.

An hour and a half in and I'm loving this as much as I thought I would. It's blowing me away in absolutely every regard.

The visuals are stunning, the concepts amazing, the voice acting suburb and the music... the music is just pure sublime in audio form

During that hour and half play time I must have said "Wow!" more times than I can count - on first touching down on to Eden Prime with the sun behind you, arriving and the sprawling mass of the Citadel, at the amazing character models and at the outstanding soundtrack.

Slightly unsure what to make of the combat at the moment - not that there's anything wrong with it but I'm absolutely dumb struck still that they took out the option to pause and position your team mates show in the earlier videos, instead going with R6:V feel of looking at hitting a button. It feels a bit hit or miss the way they've done it and the other way would have been much better and fitted in more with it's RPG stylings.

Loving the tin edition too - the design artwork on it is lovely

Yes there's pop in (only noticed it so far on the cutscenes but even then I was far too busy watching what was going on) and if that's as bad as it gets then I'll remain very happy with what is shaping up to be one of my GOTY nominations for 2007.

One question for people who've read the book AND got to the Citadel in the game:-

I was left a bit confused - why the hell didn't

The Alliance kick out Saren after the he went missing at the end of the events in Revelation? Or am I missing something here? He turns up all tricked out with Promethian technology and Niahlus doesn't think any thing's odd when he claps eyes on him?

Perhaps that bit gets explained later on but it didn't exactly seem canon to what had gone before it

Anyway, on the goosebump factor this game has already got a three, which is two more than the whole of Bioshock and one more than the entirety of HL2: Ep2. I'm expecting many, many more shivers before this thing is done and I can't wait

I agree with the combat. I was really looking forward to the pause.

I haven't got to the Citadel yet but

Saren hid the fact that he had gone rogue didn't he? As a Spectre he doesn't have to answer to many people so it is easy to slip under the radar and still look like he is a good guy

That would make sense but he must have been gone quite some time (not sure what the time difference is between the book and the start of the game but I'm guessing it's a couple of years because of Anderson's age?).

You'd think someone in the Council would have been asking questions?

Spatial watial, your words are most encouraging. I look forward to giving the game a damn good thrashing tomorrow (although it's more likely that the game will give my DVD drive a damn good thrashing, KOTOR style).

Anyone got any info on what the so called different ways are on this to finish it (wasnt their 3 ways Im sure I read it in one preview)? What I mean is I want to start it tommorow but as Im going to play it multiple times what classes is it for triggering it all (thinking of doing either standard bloke or an engineer class I dont want the mixed ones). Also whats the love scene and can I recreate some lady on lady action for AI purposes of course to see how the game handles interactivity :0 ?

Anyone tried this on an NTSC-J system yet?

I know that this has probably been replied to since then, but I've just played about two hours and the textures always take just a couple of seconds to load for me. It's definately noticable, but it's no where near that bad. Think it may be a problem on your (englishbob) end.

Sometimes I've seen the textures pop in.....out again, and then in again. Strange. It's definately not ruining my experience. Neither is the tearing, but I think it's down to the pace of the game, being an RPG.

                        Really enjoying this.

I uploaded a video on youtube just to demonstrate this and it's just finished processing. Can be found here, and the texture loads over twice as fast and it's a much more detailed area.

(and yes, my pc and 360 combined are that loud )

Really surprised at how few people are playing this on my friends list and how quiet this thread is so far...hope it picks up because its a really good game from what I've played...about 3 hours.

That said, it's basically koTOR all over again. I'm amazed how much it feels like it to be honest, though this is a more slick product. I don't mean the reference in a negative way since Knights is one of my most loved games from the last generation.

So far I haven't had anything to really fault, I'm kind of regreting my character class (Infiltrator - engineer\soldier mix) since so far I don't get any of the fun toys like throwing people or weilding shotguns. Still, my squad is pretty apt. I can use sniper rifles but I'm finding the one-zoom too restrictive. The zoom is on the pads trigger so they could have done an analogue zoom which would have been more friendly but it isn't a huge problem.

I've found that with the squad AI you need to just let them be most of the time. They are quite clever and are able to move in and out of cover and select powers surprisingly well, but when you start to micro-manage they get somewhat confused.

The controls are somewhat bizzare too - there are three seperate buttons to draw your weapon and another to put it away, and yet they've put grenades on the Back button and there is no 'quick fire' for skills (that I can see?). The combat certainly works but it isn't as polished as multiplayer GRAW, which is probably the game with the closest feel.

The script is so far very good for a game, as is the acting and the plot. There was a conversation just now (about 3 hours in) which was really heated and I got quite into it, selecting the 'angry' responses to make sure I got my point across! The conversations are really well done, very smooth and natural.

All in all then, it has so far lived up to my very high expectations. It is KoTOR again but without the Star Wars bit, but they've done a grand job with the new IP. Cool music too, I almost died at the start!
