I had Williams in my group the whole game worked on the whole storyline with her and shepherd. Shes a bitch but its quite amusing most of the time, well at least I found it amusing (maybe thats saying something :/)

Anyhooo I have just completed it, to start with though I will list my complaints with the game:

    1. You are not able to switch between team members, even their viewpoints when selecting which abilities to use and where to direct them.

    2. The dodgy rigid animations in cinematic sequences and weird left eye twitching on any race other than the one that Saren is.

    3. The fact that most of the planets are baren wastelands, they should have kept with the same format as Kotor as was incredibly boring doing the side missions after the novelty wore off.

    4. Too easy, the final boss was just down to stats in the end, the only time the game is challenging is at the very beginning when resources are few and far between.

    5. The fact that you were limited as to what weapons you could use an unlock in certain classes, I would have liked to of been able to use assault rifles.

    6. The graphics, noticeable at 1080p are such things as very poor what appear to be diffused shadows and jaggies are quite literally everywhere along with atrocious texture popping. Microsoft really needs to make the hdd a requirement now as games need it.

Ok I think thats most of my complaints of the game out of the way, now although I have these complaints and I do not believe the game should be in anyway shape or form be given anything over an 8.5 in a review as so many games of late have been terribly over rated. It is a great game and one which has for me only been bettered by Super Mario Galaxy.

The storyline is solid, I found myself wanting to find out what happens next only allowing to be drawn in by some side quests. It also allows for a 2nd or even third play through to see just how the game pans out, I played as a paragon but some of the stuff you could respond to go down the renegade route is commendable. (and as noted in this thread just plain hilarious stuff from bioware ^^)

I found the weapons to be lacking in variety in general and many are just statistical rather than aesthetical upgrades. Same goes for the armour which is a shame really. They maybe could of thrown in a couple of more powers or at least given the vanguard access to all of them rather than having to go through as another setup. Still there are some interesting points throughout the game.

One notable point here is boss battles, the only time I was taken aback by the scope of a fight was the first encounter with a

Thresher Maw, jumping out of the snowy terrain

definately one of the highlights in the game.

Having said that as far as RPG's go, the fighting has been turned up a notch slightly, it could do with tweaking more towards tactical decisions rather than standing and shooting, the AI is also fairly weak and only the
pose any real threat to you.

I clocked up about 20 hours all in all reaching around level 45 and had most things pretty high. The game would definately be more fun on a second play through, but the fact that the game does not seem to have made it through that final polish means I cannot bring myself to watch the rigid acting again and strange eye problems!

Bioware have taken a step backwards in a lot of areas because they have tried to do too much, but for one of the best endings I have seen in a game for a good while and the feeling of when you finally see those end credits, its like its been quite a trip, its got something about it. So overall very happy with the game and definately was worth the cash, I dont think I will keep it for any downloadable content, and as a lot of people have mentioned it would be very interesting for the next game is this co-op over xbox live!

I do not make it sound like the game has been too great which it has been, I just expected more of bioware, they have excelled in changing some elements of their RPG formula and the dialogue choices and implications are generally brilliant aside form some repetition here and there. If they had made sure there were more environments to walk about in and explore on foot in detail (those who have played kotor will know what I mean) and thrown in a lot more enemies! As there are not enough to kill! Then they are getting there, its seems with the extra 1 1/2 years it took from the originally slated release date that they have had to cut back alot and the full game will not be here until all of the d/l content is out, maybe then you will see the game as it was meant to be.

It may have been that they ran out of time, or that they ran out of space but something is lacking that just detracts from what is the second best game of this year.

It was easy for me too, although for different reasons -

Out of the two, Williams was the more useful in a firefight for me, so played a major part in it. The other influences were that Alenko sounded too much like Carth for my liking, so I never used him anyway, and that I figured I had more chance of a romance with Williams Oh, I also figured it made more sense to go back and help protect the nuke and make sure it went off properly, so from a tactical point of view it seemed like the right choice too.

Just out of interest Spatial101, who did you chose and why?

Oh, and how did both of you (and anyone else reading this ) handle the situation with Wrex before that, back in the camp? I used my charm skill to talk him out of any rash action (I was a little tempted to shoot him just to see everyones reaction, but I liked him too much to really consider that). Also got myself a nice 10 point achievement for "Resolving an impossible situation with Charm or Intimidation."

I`ve just finished Mass Effect and I`ll have to say that considering RPG`s aren`t really my thing I really enjoyed it. It`s gone 1am now and it was after 4am when I turned it off yesterday, I really don`t know where the time goes when I`m playing.

After a shakey start with having no cash to buy armour and both me and my team getting leathered in combat, the game really started to grow on me when those frustrations were removed. Other than the Spectre waepons available towards the end of the game, I think the best weapons and mods that I had were ones that I`d found.

There were parts in the game though where the constant jerking of the screen started to annoy me but there were other sections where it didn`t happen at all. Also there was some odd AI where a couple of the enemies I was engaging were just looking at a wall like they`d been told off by teacher.

        That aside,

I let one of my friends die because I was thinking of Williams` beaver, I then boffed Williams so it paid off, I let all the council members die so it would open the door for Humans to have a seat on the council and I was the hero who saved the universe.

I really do hope that the rumblings are true and there is going to be a couple more of these games. Despite ME`s obvious faults it was top drawer!

        Wicked!

edit - The final level was pure comedy. I had Wrex in my party who was pretty maxed up and he was throwing Geth all over the place like confetti before I could even shoot at them! Wrex is a legend!

I just used charm to chill him the **** out. I didn`t know that there was an achievement involved, but I`d had him in my group for a bit and I grew to like him so I didn`t want him dead. Me and "Ol` Wrexy" had seen some action so I didn`t want to bust a cap in his ass.

Just completed it 25+ hours I think, I was so close to level 50 aswell
I had the same thing happen to me, finished at lvl 49 with 6000exp to go. What I did was Start a new game and load my level 49 character, I hit 50 before I finished Eden Prime.

I have a question about the 150 kill and 75 biotic achievements, do you have to be the one to get the kills or is it for the whole team?

Completed this last night after about 25 hours and at level 44 as a Vanguard ( finally got to bed at 2am ), and I can't say I was disappointed with the ending. There's a definitely feeling of closure on the story, whilst leaving it open for the next game in the series ( and hopefully there will be one ).

I found the final trawl to the boss battle excellent

the walk on the outside of the station with the bodies floating off into space once killed

. Scripting and story were excellent, with the Universe having nods to various Sci-fi, but definitely making the ME world its own, and it was definitely none the weaker for not being KoTOR 2.5, in fact if anything it gave the game more freedom. You barely notice just how well the score fits in ( although the looping of some tracks when in combat made for repetition ), but the game is an aural delight.

It is a pity the extra worlds were all quite samey to explore, but there was enough variety between most of the side-quests to make them interesting. I suspect time and costs played a part in that because the main worlds are vibrant and varied graphically. The attention to detail in places is quite astonishing, such as the grime in the lifts on Feros, and the light bending around the windows.

So despite the technical issues ( which I didn't think hampered the game at all ), I am happy with the 25 hours well spent. I did check last night that you can continue with all levels and skills carried over, and thankfully you can, so time to max out to level 60 this evening \o/

              Thanks Marty.

Would you be prepared to give a mark on this one? I know you rated Oblivion the full 10.

Where does a smaller title like Mass Effect sit with you? A strong 8?

My enjoyment for this is continuing to grow night on night. Only had an hour to put into it yesterday, but what an hour. All of the time was spent on the Citadel, but I managed to cram in : talking down a jumper, having a live televised interview, cracking an illegal arms rink, solving an argument between friends, having a dance and learning to play some new high stakes gambling game !

Not a bad way to waste an hour I'd say

Loving the tune that seems to play as you come down from the docks into the C-Tec academy !!!!!

I'd say it was a good 8 - the game is strong on the narrative, though the character development is somewhat surface deep - it's there, but it doesn't grow to the same level as with KoTOR, making the character interactions feel transient rather than fleshed out. There is plenty of background information if you look for it ( through the codex and planet scanning ).

The main thrust of the story is compelling though, which far outways the techical problems I think.

I'm not sure how much replay there is with the game - I think further play throughs may well show a lot more repetition, making it an exercise in achievement chasing ( as you can't really pick that many up on single play-through ) more than anything else.

I have to say I think it is a mistake to try and encourage multiple playthroughs of any game via achievements. To me you should be able to obtain all achievements from one high difficulty play through. The game itself should be good enough to warrant additional playthroughs to me, and it should not be linked to acheivements as it seems to of been here.

Rightly or wrongly I don't feel finished with a game until I've maxed out the gamerscore, but with this that would take 3 playthroughs minimum from what I can see, something I don't think the game demands !

I finished the game with some off the scale weapons but apart from Wrex`s armour which was ace, mine and Williams` were pretty rubbish. Any ideas who sells the best stuff? I`m talking mega expensive kick ass gear too.

I`m gonna do one more playthrough I think.

I just started newgame+ and frankly it feels like a whole different game, previousily I would use barrier and maybe lift if I felt like it, but all I really needed was my pistol for long range, shotgun for short range. Now even on eden prime im spaming everything I can - ducking for cover and generally using the terrain as I should. For anyone that felt the difficulty in the game wasnt all that on the first playthough, do it on hardcore - you get mid-game enemies spawning on eden prime, its quite an experiance.

I am loving this more than life. The only reason I live is for Mass Effect.

I'm at about 20 hours and I cannot get enough. I am a Vanguard in my late level 30's and only just got round to unlocking Throw last night (why it took me so long to notice it I will never know). So now me and Wrex walk into a room, I shout "BITCHES!" and then we just throw them all over the place.

I have been doing every side quest I can as I'm hoping to get to lvl 50 in one playthrough so I can do another playthrough with a totally different class.
