I had Williams in my group the whole game worked on the whole storyline with her and shepherd. Shes a bitch but its quite amusing most of the time, well at least I found it amusing (maybe thats saying something :/)
Anyhooo I have just completed it, to start with though I will list my complaints with the game:
1. You are not able to switch between team members, even their viewpoints when selecting which abilities to use and where to direct them.
2. The dodgy rigid animations in cinematic sequences and weird left eye twitching on any race other than the one that Saren is.
3. The fact that most of the planets are baren wastelands, they should have kept with the same format as Kotor as was incredibly boring doing the side missions after the novelty wore off.
4. Too easy, the final boss was just down to stats in the end, the only time the game is challenging is at the very beginning when resources are few and far between.
5. The fact that you were limited as to what weapons you could use an unlock in certain classes, I would have liked to of been able to use assault rifles.
6. The graphics, noticeable at 1080p are such things as very poor what appear to be diffused shadows and jaggies are quite literally everywhere along with atrocious texture popping. Microsoft really needs to make the hdd a requirement now as games need it.
Ok I think thats most of my complaints of the game out of the way, now although I have these complaints and I do not believe the game should be in anyway shape or form be given anything over an 8.5 in a review as so many games of late have been terribly over rated. It is a great game and one which has for me only been bettered by Super Mario Galaxy.
The storyline is solid, I found myself wanting to find out what happens next only allowing to be drawn in by some side quests. It also allows for a 2nd or even third play through to see just how the game pans out, I played as a paragon but some of the stuff you could respond to go down the renegade route is commendable. (and as noted in this thread just plain hilarious stuff from bioware ^^)
I found the weapons to be lacking in variety in general and many are just statistical rather than aesthetical upgrades. Same goes for the armour which is a shame really. They maybe could of thrown in a couple of more powers or at least given the vanguard access to all of them rather than having to go through as another setup. Still there are some interesting points throughout the game.
One notable point here is boss battles, the only time I was taken aback by the scope of a fight was the first encounter with a
definately one of the highlights in the game.
Having said that as far as RPG's go, the fighting has been turned up a notch slightly, it could do with tweaking more towards tactical decisions rather than standing and shooting, the AI is also fairly weak and only the
pose any real threat to you.
I clocked up about 20 hours all in all reaching around level 45 and had most things pretty high. The game would definately be more fun on a second play through, but the fact that the game does not seem to have made it through that final polish means I cannot bring myself to watch the rigid acting again and strange eye problems!
Bioware have taken a step backwards in a lot of areas because they have tried to do too much, but for one of the best endings I have seen in a game for a good while and the feeling of when you finally see those end credits, its like its been quite a trip, its got something about it. So overall very happy with the game and definately was worth the cash, I dont think I will keep it for any downloadable content, and as a lot of people have mentioned it would be very interesting for the next game is this co-op over xbox live!
I do not make it sound like the game has been too great which it has been, I just expected more of bioware, they have excelled in changing some elements of their RPG formula and the dialogue choices and implications are generally brilliant aside form some repetition here and there. If they had made sure there were more environments to walk about in and explore on foot in detail (those who have played kotor will know what I mean) and thrown in a lot more enemies! As there are not enough to kill! Then they are getting there, its seems with the extra 1 1/2 years it took from the originally slated release date that they have had to cut back alot and the full game will not be here until all of the d/l content is out, maybe then you will see the game as it was meant to be.
It may have been that they ran out of time, or that they ran out of space but something is lacking that just detracts from what is the second best game of this year.
