and just a question to you all , but have you noticed that if you dont use the wheel you seem to score less points in the online races? ive been in some first and second places but those in 5th and 6th have got more points due to them using the wheel...thats just stupid, it gives you a choice but rewards the wheel users with more points?

i keep finding flaws with this game haha
Are you sure they weren't getting more points because their overall score was lower than yours?, the amount of points you gain/lose is dependant on the skill level of everyone you play not their control method afaik.

Real men use the wheel anyway.

how can you come first and get less points then someone in 3rd/4th? in a 12 man race?

when people playing with the wheel come 1st they seem to get 100+ points evertime in a full race?

Those with the wheel receive more points. Furthermore, the more higher your ranking is, less points you get. For example, one of players has already score around 7800. Even if he gets third, he loses minor amount of points.

thats just a daft system when skill takes a back seat to weapons/battling

its not daft at all, it makes perfect sense for this kind of game and rewards players with lower skill for beating higher ranked opponents, who are also subsequently penalised for losing to spanners.

yeh but when you can go from 1st to 6th with one blue shell its not is it...

you've not got a good enough lead

i'd agree with that, over an extended session the good players will win far more than they lose and those that aren't so good end up near the back.

I think quite a few peoples frustration from this comes from years of playing it offline and them thinking they are a lot better at it than they really are (a culture shock I had first time I went online with Pro Evo)

on the older tracks i usually win, whenever its a SNES/N64 track (ones which require sharp cornering and skill) the great players always shine through but the newer tracks are too open with wide roads which allow for the worser players to gain some advantage.

im over 6800 skill rating but its the fact that i have to finish in the top 3-4 to gain a measly amount of points which does my head in - im sick of coming first and getting 30-40 points!

I agree about the new tracks, i don't really like any of them (except the new Koopa Castle). Happens quite alot where i'll be winning one second then all of a sudden, blue shell, thunder, fly off the stage combo...

Rainbow road is a bit silly as well, if you end up far back it only gives you gold mushroom and sometimes star...both of which you will probably cause you to fly back off the stage again. haha

yeh i know what you mean, tracks which i totally hate (and the ones people always seem to pick : ( ) are mushroom gauge, coconut mall, maple treeway, basically all the long borefest tracks, rainbow road is ok but annoying at times.

the blue shell is the worst thing in the game, it just targets out the most skillful player... its like you have to pay a price for being good : (...im sure every single time ive been winning i get blasted by a blue shell...damn annoying!

Finding this frustrating in all modes.

                            > Getting hammered by weapons as you approach the end of a race is utterly annoying.
                            > Long & dull tracks.
                            > Crazy rubber banding via weapons

I also hate the nemesis you get in 1p, a product of the fact the AI's aren't racing just forming an orderly cue. So you've also got the same people placing the same, so if you mess up one race you have no chance of winning. I've witnessed a racer being several places back, thanks to a well placed shell, only to finish second when the results come up - cheating git!

The control method is brilliant but the game is less so. Shame. I dare say 6/10 is overly generous.

This has actually been true in all Nintendo made racers from Wave Race to F-Zero. So far as I can remember, only exception for this stupid rule has been F-Zero GX, but then again, it was developed by SEGA.
