This really is stunning. I share others gripes about the cutscenes (as beautiful as they look), and the grading system, but the combat makes up for everything.

so trying to play this now and because of the wonders that are forced patches, I cannot even get to the title screen. I load the game, it asks me to update, I select yes and the screen just goes blank. If I leave it long enough the ps3 reboots or something but I go back into the game and it again asks me to update. rinse, repeat.

      any ideas?

Sounds strange...I haven't played the game since finishing the DLC episodes and at that time there was just one patch to let the game recognize them. Try to skip the update procedure and see what happens.

yeah tried that too and i still get the blank screen. may have to try disabling the internet on the ps3 so it doesn't find the patch.

started playing infamous now though so it will have to wait.

Been playing this now and I'm enjoying it a lot.

There are a few annoyances, characters blocking narrow passages and ladders forcing you to waste two turns, crouching people taking comical amounts of hits, even if you're standing next to them shooting them in the head.

Done two annoying missions in a row: mission 7 with the giant tank and the slow, boring stealth mission after it.

If I hadn't done mission 7 first time I probably would have shelved the game for a bit. Getting the tank to fire it's main cannon is a pain and whilst you're taking out the first two radiators it's saving up all its turns so that when the reinforcements come, they wipe out almost your entire team. Managed to win by spamming more lancers than the valkyria lady could possibly kill. Was fairly close to losing though, I was getting ready to break something.

            Horribly implemented mission.

I started playing this yesterday afternoon, I didnt realise that battles could last an hour plus! Im really enjoying teh game so far, even if there are small annoyances, with stuff like shots not registering a hit even though you blatantly hit the target, or stupid stuff like getting stuck between your own characters, oh and like abigsmurf says about about hiding behind stupid sand bags that are hit and miss........

But, ive been pleasantly suprised by this game, wasn't sure what to expect when I popped it in the PS3 yesterday.

It was also a nice suprise to see Vyse and Aika in the game, was this game done by the same (all female) dev team that did Skies of Arcadia?

Loving the art drection, and the option to have subbed or dubbed. I can understand why the average casual gamer may have missed this in the stores, its very much a Japanese stratgy type game. Oh well their loss is my gain in the bargain bin

What i wanna know is how many people are there in the game, if i keep getting fatalities.......... And will it affect the story line?

Im currently on Chapter 4 and trying (badly) to take the bridge back........

haha the big tank misson was fun, 1st time around i won mission but lost jane(KIA) with selvia running down the ramp and destroying everything, but there was no way im losing one of my fav's so i redid the mission with my own tank blocking the ramp with enigneer/sniper support clearing the mission with no KIA's. Felt good.

                Hardest mission by far is trenches, similar to the big tank mission in there's a turn limit before nasty reinforcements turn up this time with an upgraded tank destroying V-lance ;_;

Sort of. That team was merged with one of the other Dreamcast era SEGA teams, and that's the team that made this.

Disappointed that you didn't spot that the medic is Fina though, heh.

It's a myth that Skies was an all-female team. Surely.

lol, I actually did spot her, but forgot her name So no need to be dissapointed dude. Its been ages since i played Skies, probably looking at 10 years now i think......... damn! Always preffered the DC version for the VMU features (that should be put back into pads, having an alternative screen, but minus teh battery issues).

I finally did chapter 4 last night! Man i hate it when my lancers and tank miss shots even at point blank range.

I am not sure what this Darcsan issue is all about yet, but hopefully it will be revealed as i play on. Tell you what, I don't know how Neo Stuey played the game in Japanese, with so much to learn about tactics and stuff.

I think you have to realise that the 3d parts are really a "shell" over the game to make it appealing. It is really a 2d strategy game and you should always consider the plan view rather than the POV when shooting. A crouching person in the open still has defensive ability. It DOES makere sense if you think of it that way.

Great game all the way through imho.

Good point, it makes sense when you put it that way actually........ Will bare it in mind when i get back to it, hopefully tonight.

I don't like losing anyone in the battle field, and won't complete a mission unless i am cassualty free...... Probably gonna make the game even longer from now on.

Generally, is the best place to shoot an enemy in the head? Is the back a weak spot?

Actually if one of your guys die in the line of duty and you get to them in time, they are whisked away, can you then call for someone to take their place or are you down by a person from that point on?

You only get a damage bonus when a shot hits the head, other body parts give normal damage, front, sides or back. Sometimes sneaking up behind enemy soldiers won't let you hit their heads due to their backpack. I don't remember if a sneaked soldier loses his counterattack though.

You can replace a fallen soldier when he/she is rescued (ally gets near and calls the medic) or when he/she dies (medic doesn't arrive in 3/4 turns or enemy gets near).

Probably. My understanding was that the design team on it was.

The head is the weakspot. Attacking from behind gives you a much much higher chance of hitting the person with more shots, they cant see you coming so cant respond.

If I remember correctly, haven't played it since PAL launch, they still shoot back when you sneak up on them from behind. Most of the time shooting from behind should do serious damage with accuracy up, a lot of enemies will die.
