Eh, sorry, I guess I do basically think that, well, probably most of the posters in this topic are nuts.
I get the buttons, I do. Only... where do I begin? Sometimes he dashes in and goes into his punch-punch-punch combo and even though I'm holding L1 it stops nothing. No indication of what his reach or mine is, which isn't helped by the camera wheeling around or going into the stupid mini-cutscenes all the time - there's a reason actual proper fighting games don't do that, you know? Apparently I can't dash into anything, or at least I can't do it with any consistency - sometimes I stomach punch him, sometimes I stop short and he just punches me straight away. The stupid shuffling around instead of straight linear movement - sometimes I try and approach him when he's obviously baiting me in so he can do his super (the dash in the first round, the heavy punch in the second), and as soon as I move he triggers it - basically as soon as I move, I can't do anything, so he automatically gets to punch me before I've stopped, i.e. he stands there, I can't approach him without being instantly hit. The idiotic way I can poke him to death in the first round and then he magically gets twice as powerful and stops being quite so retarded. And on, and on, and on... it's obviously doable. I button-mash most fighters, I'll freely admit, and I'm not very good at them. But this is ridiculous - Konami, if you want to do a fighting game with this idiotic system, then go right ahead and I can choose not to play it. But shoehorning a half-assed oh God we're so cinematic piece of **** like this into the end of your blockbuster triple A title I sat through for nearly twenty hours, one that doesn't play like any frigging fighting game I've ever played, one I have no choice but to struggle through... no. Just no. You've definitely ensured I'm never, ever playing through this on anything above Normal, because if I manage to actually finish this - if - I never, ever want to do it again and have it harder. I mean, I'm struggling to find the will to finish the ****ing thing as it is.
Obviously it's not Konami's fault I sold my 360 for this, I'm not delusional or zomg internet outrage!!!11!!!1!!!. But it's like some horrible nightmare, and that's really, really not being melodramatic or over-emotional. I wish it was, but, yeah... this is probably the biggest kick in the teeth any videogame's ever given me.

That fight is great, not perfect but great nonetheless. It is not trying to be a
beat em up or fighting game
, it is an
obvious nod to the fight with Liquid in the original MGS
. The controls are pretty simple, I died once (was playing on Big Boss Hard so was expected really!) and then pretty much took care of him the second time around.
This was basically my method....
after I did a combo and got him down once, I timed my attack and went into a combo again basically not allowing him to get up. When he did try to attack i just pretty much dodged all of his attacks
.
It was a superb battle, very cinematic and epic due to the
music in the background from the different MGS games
. Totally loved it, if that makes me nuts then so be it

Well, finished the game now and for me it was a corker.... but for its time just short of the greatness that is MGS3. I found Acts 1,2 and especially 4 to be great... 3... alright. The end, though the story is great was a bit lacking in the gameplay sense for me. I felt that MGS1 and 3 managed to wrap the story better around the gameplay rather than remove the player control to such an extent. Never the less a great game, definately my best so far for 2008 (and unlikely to be toppled) and I await MGS5 with baited breath.

End of Act 5:
Liquid/Ocelot, on top of the submarine. Uh... all I can do to him is a CQC hold. And the QTE event does about a quarter of the damage he's doing to me with a flurry of punches and kicks. Which I could do just fine in the cutscene preceding the fight, but now suddenly I've lost the ability to perform them. Am I seriously expected to win this just by dodging around like a tit and occasionally weakly banging his head off the floor?
Very, very pissed off. I mean, I'm perfectly prepared to be shown how I'm missing something blatantly obvious, but I pressed everything nice and slowly to test it, and I'm pretty sure the only button that does anything is R1. I mean, if I am reading it right that's really, really not on.

More easter eggs related to the ipod songs. Apparently, if you play certain songs at times/situations during a specific act, the song will have somekind of effect the enemy.
Beyond the Bounds: In Act 4: Shadow Moses, Tank Hangar, after power is restored, return to the upper catwalk, and explore all the rooms. This song increases stun damage done by Snake from non-lethal weapons.
Big Boss: Get the Big Boss Emblem. This song increases stun damage and Snake's accuracy.
Bio-hazard: In Act 3: Europe, Midtown, hold-up a resistance soldier and body search him. This song causes soldiers held by Snake to scream.
Destiny's Call: Received randomly from an allied or neutral militia or rebel soldier after Snake gives them a healing item. This song causes soldiers held by Snake to become enraged.
Flowing Destiny: In Act 4: Shadow Moses, Canyon, before leaving the canyon area, examine the rocky walls for a hole hiding the song. This song causes soldiers held by Snake to weep.
The Fury: In Act 2: South America, Cove Valley Village, search inside the fire-ravaged house. This song causes soldiers held by Snake to become enraged.
MGS 4 Love Theme/Action: Received randomly from an allied or neutral militia or rebel soldier after Snake gives them a healing item. This song causes soldiers held by Snake to weep.
Opening - Old L.A. 2040: In Act 4: Shadow Moses, Nuclear Warhead Storage B2, input "78925" into Otacon's lab computer. This song increases Snake's accuracy.
Policenaughts Ending: In Act 4 Shadow Moses, Nuclear Warhead Storage B2, enter "13462" into Otacon's lab computer. This song causes soldiers held by Snake to fall asleep when touched.
Rock Me: In Act 2: South America, Confinement Facility, search the island in the south-eastern quadrant. This song increases the amount of life recovered from items and other means.
Sailor: In Act 2 South America, Vista Mansion, look between the east wall and a cargo container. This song increases the amount of life recovered from items and other means.
Show Time: Received randomly from an allied or neutral militia or rebel soldier after Snake gives them a healing item. This song causes soldiers held by Snake to scream.
Snake Eater: Get all 40 game clear Emblems. This song increases the amount of life recovered from items and other means.
Subsistence: Play one game of Metal Gear Online, starting the match with at least two players. This song increases Snake's accuracy.

Speaking of stealth camo, I was gonna give MGS4 a rest after completing it once but might go back in on a no-alert run. Anyone managed this so far?

I've not posted or looked in this thread since getting MGS4, but now i've completed it I loved it!
Spoilered my thoughts just in case:
I found ACT 1,2 and 4 brilliant, but 3 and 5 were the poorest of the five. No doubt there still good, especially from a plot perspective, but gameplay wise; it lacked something that the other acts had.
Act 4 was amazing:
the nostalgia that came over me, along with an almost sad feeling, but in a good, sad feeling. If that makes sense? Seeing the graphical leap from the original - by the cleverly use of the old heliport section from the PSone - was a nice idea; especially for anyone out there who hasn't played any of the series' earlier installments, they'll get an idea of why this place is revisited.
Anyway, i'm looking forward to going back through this and i'm thinking of ramping it up to the hardest difficulty that you unlock after finishing the game once (My first playthrough I did it on the middle difficulty, the default one for UK and American players).
But does anyone know if you unlock a cool extra for completing it on the new unlocked hard difficulty? Or if you get an extra for completing it following strict requirements to unlock anything; like, no alerts, or no kills throughout?

There are all kinds of rewards for completing whilst meeting certain criteria. As an example (no need to spoiler as I won't give specifics) you can get a particular item by not collecting something until the beginning of Act 5 even though the item is available at the start of Act 2.
Typically things like completing without taking any rations, or not hitting alert phase or not killing anyone, or completing in under 6 hours etc.
