Finished it earlier today myself. I loved every moment of it from start to finish. I don't know why some reviews are complaining about the gameplay vs the cutscenes in terms or time. I thought it struck a nice balance between the two myself, i never felt myself wishing to get back into the gameplay. The length was just about right.

Getting some of those emblems sounds impossible. O_O
Can't wait to get stuck in again, i think it might knock off the original off my fav game of all time. The scale of the action and stealth setpieces is immense!

      Raidens

ending is just pure cheese, but it is an ending that would have made more sense had Snake died to preserve it, his final noble act, reflecting the noble act The Boss performed in her death. Then the sacrifice of Snake for Raiden and his family could have been made clear to Raiden through Rose as Snake would have known the truth about her and the kid. Thus Raiden would finally understand the value of life and what Snake meant.

I guess for me either Snake or Raiden had to sacrifice themself for this to feel like a satisfying ending. Its a theme Kojima has used with key characters in MGS1 and MGS3 and since these are the games I enjoyed the most it is something I was hoping he would use again and use well.

'zero' at the end is major zero from mgs3, and the original creators of the patriots are him, big boss, sigint and paramedic right?, I still don't know why naomi changed sides so much either, or JD, GW and all this, I kinda know they are controlling AI's as such, but jesus christ

Naomi changes side because she's used as the classic wild card. The AI business was convoluted. They should have left it at GW. I was kind of hoping given the codecs were video that in Act 4 or 5 you'd suddenly have your nanonbots hacked by GW, enter first-person and climb through the codec video screen into Shadow Moses. That would have been cool and fourth wallish.

I think the difference between them in both mindset and body is intended to show that just because a life has been touched by conflict and strife that it shouldn't be regarded as throwaway. Snakes desperate to hang on to his humaity and Raiden's throwing it away. Towards the end Snake makes a big deal of telling him to go and live his life because there's still time for that to happen, even after everything he's done.
          I think that's a fair point. Even

in his couldn't-give-a-f**k state, Raiden is still naive and childish in the way he undervalues things that are most important to him. It's as though Raiden thinks he has a huge debt to pay to Snake for hardening his outlook, when in effect what Snake was trying to get over to him in MGS2 was that you shouldn't disconnect or remove yourself from those you care about.

He was one character that Kojima would have made more of an impact with by getting rid of him - the best point would have been the end of act 4 with the noble sacrifice. But again I think this is part of Kojima's attachment to his characters - in Raiden that attachment is probably extremely strong since everyone else disliked him so much after MGS2.

That and it gives the team (presumably without Kojima) to have further Metal Gear games with Raiden or his son. ; )

That's why I honestly thought Kojima would do it. Especially if you prescribe to the point of view that the introduction of Raiden was big finger to everyone with MGS2 as opposed to a poorly thought out character choice.

Also, I don't know why anyone had a problem with the final confrontation. I only died once on it. My first go just gave me the right amount of time to work it out. I loved the environment attacks, genius!

How about a gaiden of Metal Gear Solid featuring Raiden, called Metal Gear Raiden!

                Oh yeah - Kernow

Zero is Major Zero from MGS3, same with Sigint (Darpa chief) and Paramedic (Dr. Clark). I thought the Patriots' member reveal would feature slightly more stronger characters.

Anyone know what happened to Raiden

to make him have a cybernetic body? It was my one misgiving of act 3 of not seeing him meet up with the doctor to fix him.

I acually liked Raiden in MGS2 though aswell as playing as him, the only person that spoiled it all was Rosemary.

I was expecting it'd have something to do with what what Solidus said about the location of the Patriot's being in the nanomachines down his spine in MGS2. I thought the reason was going to be because the disc Snake and Otacon had was filled with bogus information, and the only parts of his body that were going to be left were his spine and head (with him offering up the information inside him to them prior to MGS4).

In the end I have absolutely no clue. He gets his arm chopped off and there in the waiting room it's suddenly grafted back on. indeed.

What I didnt understand was at the end of Act 4 Raiden lops off his right arm to free himself and then saves Snake and looks to have died. But, somehow you get told he is alive then shows up later with no arms and his sword in his teeth and , haha.

In fact, what I distinctly remember about that scene was him holding Rosemary and his son and the lines around his body. Did he have his other arm back? I thought he did.

I'd forgotten about that. I'd have really liked to have seen that scene. Do you think he would have bitten off their toes? : P

I just presumed considering with the advances of technology and his ninja suit that they just made him some new synthetic arms. That does explain alot when you referred to what happened in MGS2, which alot of the information at the time just flew over my head, there was far too much all at once in that game INFORMATION OVERLOAD. MGS4 had all the complexity of 2 but managed to spread the complex information out alot better as well as making alot of sense too.

That scene with the sword in his teeth reminded me of an anime character called Roronoa Zoro from One Piece. He looked badass though.
