I'd disagree with that, it's great if you can get a grip of the controls but surely if the game makes it hard for a lot of players to enjoy it then surely it doesn't matter what original features they have implemented if people don't end up enjoying the game ?

If you don't overcome the problem then it is your loss. I'm not disputing the fact that the controls are bad and that they will hamper the enjoyment for some people , I'm just disagreeing that they just aren't game breaking bad. It has been blown well out of proportion.
I honestly think there are enough stand out moments in this game to warrant anybody who enjoys new gaming experiences to play it.

I've not played this so maybe shouldn't comment. But for me, the most important part of any game is the control. By far. I find it odd people are excusing apparently shoddy control because of other good attributes the game has. The sooner devs start building games based on great control, the better. There's no excuse for crap controls, games have been around long enough for them to know what works and what doesn't.

While trying new ideas is never a bad thing, you do that in testing, and if it's obvious it's not working, return to a tried and trusted method. There's no need to reinvent with every game. Personally I'd like to see a universal control scheme adopted.

Oh I haven't given up just yet, I'm too stubborn for that

The driving level just made a really bad impression on me, so much so that when I finished it I turned it off in disgust at how awful it was. If there wasn't other things that impressed me about the game I would have returned it straight away but I have enjoyed the setpieces/puzzles so far

Now that I'm in central park I'll give it another go over the weekend but if it continues to annoy me then I'll trade it in next week towards Bad Company.

The actual controlling of the character isn't and problem, it's just the standard issue 3rd/1st person controls.
Most actions are performed in 3rd person, but when you use your gun it switches to FP view, which is much easier for interiors.
Very occasionally, moreso in puzzle solving parts the game switches to a olde style AITD fixed camera.
The actual cursor movement is rather slow, but given that combat is kept to a minimum it isn't really a problem. They've decided to give you a liberal amount of auto aim instead.

THe main issue during my 3 or so hours of play has been selecting items and healing myself, which aren't as simple as they should of been.
Pressing down on the D-pad lets you look at the inside of your jacketm you are meant to move the left stick in a half move rotation to choose what you want, or gently point the stick in the direction of the item you want, this proves to be tricking sometimes with certain pockets taking me several attempts to get to.

Healing yourself is similar, you look down at the wounds across your arms legs chest and shoulders and you can change what you are looking at with a similar kind of motion, which just isn't quite smooth enough.

It's only that which I have found myself having problems with.

The driving is a bit tricky, which is strange considering what their last game was....

That first sequence reminded me of the demo of stuntman Ignition, only with more dying.

What infuriated me more than anything was that random **** just seemed to get in your way and that was it, total restart. It's bad enough if you mess it up yourself but when some bastard debris comes out of nowhere and gets in your way, killing you basically, you just want to shout at the tv.

It was all scripted and happened mostly the same everytime when I did it. I did get right up to some giant ramp and think I didn't have enough speed to make it, only to reverse and have the ground swallow me up.

When I did it again I realised that it wouldn't of mattered if I hadn't had enough speed or not

Purchased this yesterday midday and i still haven't played the damn game. First off, after i first installed it i get the securom error message.

                    "Conflict with Emulation Software detected."

So i uninstall all the software that would fall under that category. I then go to play it again and the message pops up again.

I proceed with formatting and reinstalling Windows Vista 64bit. Once ive got everything running up again minus all the software that could piss off Securom. Installed the game again. I still get the bloody message, im at my wits end!

Can someone please help me with this, its rediculous!

Apparently this can often be related to DVD emulation stuff. Make sure no Burning Software is installed

Don't have any. I know that Windows Media Player has a service dedicated to cd writing on windows xp, but i don't know if its the same on vista. Can't seem to locate it anyway. Ive been scratching my head all day.

Maybe because 64bit vista emulates a few 32 bit services it doesn't like that?
Try ending any processes with a star next to it in the task manager

Well, opinions are to be had by each and every one of us and surely we've all had a different experience with the game. But the most frustrating thing for me was when

In chapter 2, when you meet up with the chick and you jump out of the lift and the little bastards come running at ya, you turn ya torch on (the E key) and run towards a door to open it.

When reaching the door, the same key (e) is used to open the door. Queue a messy torch turning on off/door opening death situation.

Not to mention the fact that I could only take one hit and then I was dead due to the checkpoint system and the stingy health pickups or lack of.

When I activated a switch a beast pops out, which lead to a very tricky fight with only one hit I could take and his unlimited hits it was very unfair to the player. When/if I did knock him down with the awkward combat system the game wasn't always guaranteed to drag his dead body, let alone get it into the fire.

I didn't want to hate on the game, but I really didn't enjoy it.

Exactly how I feel, don't know how many tries it took to do it last night (got 2 achievements whilst trying though)

The game itself isn't that bad and definatly has potential but the control system is just too cumbersome to use.

Will persevere with it for a little while longer but I suspect it will get chopped in next week

Fair enough mate I'm on 360 so the torch thing wasn't really a problem (had it on my shoulder). I've had my fair share of encounters where the enemies kill me in 1 hit and it feels unfair though. I just thought that the cinematic feel of the game at times made up for it

The bit i'm upto atm seemed good at first but it's more like the tri-force fetch quest in Zelda: TWW!
