GT Force I used is the old Initial D PS2 wheel works but none of the buttons are recognised and no obvious way to get them to work. Can play using auto but I was losing 2 seconds per lap. Alternative is to assign a six axis controller as controller no 2 and then place on the top of the wheel using the default R1 & R2 as shifters, works quite well.

My GT Force EX (thought it was an RX), is a dual PS2/PS3 wheel works with all the buttons covered, but it has issues with not centering properly but has always been like that on both my PS2 and PS3, it happens at random and gets annoying and was the reason it was in the loft in the first place, it's gone back there.

For the moment I'm back using the pad for the time being unless I find someone fancies hacking me up a sequential gear shifter out of a spare six axis that I can place to the left of the GT Force for bit more realism.

Absolutely shocking that the ID wheel does not work. i won't get this unless they patch that in.

Just wondering whether this has a system link option?

Forgive my stupidness here but is this region free?

Yeah, all PS3 games are region-free.

Just got the JPN version delivered a few hours ago and gave it a go. At first I was excited to get it, being a huge fan of the anime and the console/arcade games for years, but when I first started to play felt really disappointed with the handling and the music quality (sounds like all the eurobeat tracks have been recorded in a tin shed). They may have been going for a 'radio in a car' sound but it's just comes off as awful. But after sticking with it and readjusting my play style with a few runs on the familar Akina downhill, have found my enthusiasm for the game again.

Because I recieved no English manual with my Japanese game just wanted to ask, is there a HDD install option or an option to improve the in game music quality?

My copy should be arriving today with any luck - it's the game I bought my PS3 for having played the arcade game for many years, so I'm really looking forward to getting it. I was somewhat concerned when I saw that Famitsu gave the game 6 / 7 / 7 / 6 though; is this a reflection on how well v4 went down in Japanese arcades? Having seen a few videos it seems more forgiving than any of the previous versions - I remember playing v1 and being shocked at the acceleration penalty you incurred when hitting a wall; this was toned down in v2 / 3, but v4 seems to have almost done away with it altogether although I could be wrong. For me it was one of the things that set Initial D apart - you needed to be almost god like to get through tracks like Happogahara at full speed and not hit anything! Well, I'm sure that even if Famitsu are more or less right with their scoring then I'd gladly take a substandard version of Initial D over anything like Gran Turismo, Need For Speed, Burnout etc. ;-) Next up we need an arcade conversion of WMMT (not Genki's poor excuse for a Wangan game), and Battle Gear would be nice too!

I can't get enough of this game! Put 8 hours into it and have only done 3 tracks in TT and story mode as I'm trying to master them (even if I'm familiar with them from the PS2/PSP games) before moving on.

In most racing games I'm not bothered with beating my own lap times but it's just so addicitive here! The grinding to obtain points for upgrades is great too IMO. Just stuck the 50,000 point engine in my RX-7 and the thing is like a rocket so working on those lap times atm!

The lack of a proper story mode like in previous version with you reinacting various parts of the manga/anime is a loss but personally I can live without it.

Just a question on future DLC, heard that the RX-8 is amongst the planned car dl's but has it been announced if new tracks will come too?
Also, have the Asian version so no online play but just wondering if JPN DLC would be playable on the Asian version? If not then I'm gonna have to buy the JPN version too.

Besides the obvious big hitters like MGS4, GTA IV, DMC4 and the likes of Resistance 2 and GoW 2 later in the year, this is my game of the year so far. Not going to win over many new fans I reckon but for those of us familiar with previous games as well as the manga/anime, this is a must-have!

Also, just looking around the net, there seems to be a lot of hate for this game, seemingly based on a video on Gametrailers which showed a very poor driver using the outer car view, which makes things look worse than they are graphically. Ok, so it is a let down in the visuals department, but with such an addicitive core gameplay, this is going to seemingly be more overlooked than usual which is a great shame.

I thought the RX-8 was in Arcade Stage 4 (off which Extreme Stage is based) so surprised it's not in this. Any other cars been removed?

I assumed Extreme Stage was pretty much a port of Arcade Stage 4 with tweaks, not with stuff removed

Regarding the comments on the graphics as long as it's close to the arcade game, I'm more than happy. Dropped content though (especially if it's added later as paid for DLC) is poor showing from Sega.

Got this yesterday and put a few hours in, at the moment I still prefer the PS2 and PSP versions, just can't get used to vers 4 handling at the minute, just seems like your racing on an ice rink, the extra tuning options are nice though and the soundtracks ace as usual.

As for the graphics I suppose their the same as the arcade version, but it's still a bit disappointing after watching the amazing intro, they do look quite nice on the later stages though.
And just like every version i'm stuck on that bastard Keisuke at the minute.

I'm sure i'll be calling it the best Initial D ever in a few weeks time after further play though, just need to get used to the handling.

Not too sure, there is an extra option on the JPN version though for the downloadable comic books, there were rumors that the online extras got removed due to licensing issues in other parts of asia so they might lock them to the JPN version only.
