Hmmm.. I had assumed I was in the ballpark for 'winnable' lap times, but maybe I'm not - did you do any barrel rolls on Chenghou Reverse? I'm not, but that would be the only way I could possible squeeze more time out of my lines. It looks like it may be possible to 'hop over' the right turn after the first magnetic hill-climb (a la Metropia R) and do a roll there, but I figured it was too risky.

I just had a race where I came up to the final hairpin in 1st place, got passed on the way up the slope by 2 others, and then at the top used a boost which sent me flying past them back into first - only I then collided with the SIDE of the finish post and launched straight up in the air - came down like a feather and finished the race in last position ><

      O_O

And your controller is still in one piece after that?

As I give up now at 2:20 am, I have to laugh really, considering that is as close as I ever got. Seven and a half hours repeating one race over, and over... I know the track inside out but I still can't win.

This has become the C' and Darwock Bitch about WipEout thread.

Zico attempts down to 30.99 but that was WITH a boost onto the ramp, so a little miffed that it wasn't The One.

How you cleared the time without boosting there is a complete mystery to me. My consistency with the landing the ramp boost is increasing. As you need to use a boost just before you cross the line for the 2 boost exploit, you have on laps and off laps. Perhaps unsurprisingly my consistency with landing the ramp boost is many times higher on the off laps

Who cares when it is so enjoyable reading the dedication - and to an extent, your passion - towards the game.

            Keep it up guys.

What trophy (or trophies) eludes the two of you?

                30.87

I don't know how to get any faster...

morning! lol.. here I go again, I think I'm going to do permanent damage to my hands, I'm not getting enough recovery time (basically only when I'm asleep) so every day makes it a little worse. Still back to work tomorrow so that'll keep me off it for a few hours. The only other time I've had this was, funnily enough, with F-Zero GX, only then the pain wasn't so prolonged.

When Rare (sorry, C') said I have them all obviously he meant those 4, just in case anyone misunderstands! I still need Arcade Perfect (4 tracks remaining), Zone Zeus & Airbraker. The only one that really worries me is Arcade Perfect.

I'm hoping my PS3 was overheating yesterday causing the AI to behave even more crazily than they normally do. It was just freakish, every time I hit the autpilot there would be a row of mines sitting in it's path round the next corner.. nothing I could do was ever enough to win, because it would always stop me.

We're moaning a lot, yeah.. but only cos we're the only ones trying it! If anyone else goes through this I'm sure they'll pick up where we leave it.. it's impossible not to lol

update - lol, a 2:06.85 and only 2nd place - the AI did a 2:06.10. Faster than they have ever gone before.

Did it after a long and painful 10.5 hours with a time of 2:09. Go figure. I took 1st at the end of the 4th lap and then something must have happened behind me because they just weren't there for the final lap - even allowing me to screw up the final hairpin without punishment. Ridiculous. I think I held my breath for the whole lap.

You know that guy who's eternal damnation was to roll a rock up a hill only for it to roll back down again at the top? My version would be being sentenced to perpetually race around Chenghou Project Reverse only to be sent from 1st to last at the final corner each time. I just don't get it, the track isn't even that bad compared to the forward version!

I'm doing speed laps of Sebenco Climb Reverse now to get used to it.. good news is plenty of opportunity to barrel roll, the bad news is that barrel rolls = suicide. I can already tell that shields are going to be the most important pick-up to protect yourself from the walls.

instead of being negative all the time here's a nice pic I took during one of my more 'adventurous' speed laps

                      30.68!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I literally did a victory lap around my living room, Dual Shock aloft, when I saw the time.

I shouldn't even be here at this time. Normally I'm in work for 8:30am but have a training course that starts at 9:30am so I resisted the temptation to stay in bed longer and thought I'd give myself 45 minutes or so on this.

Whether I was just too tired last night to spot it, but immediately I saw the flaw in my 30.87 ghost. After the second barrl roll, I missed one of the 2 speed pads just before the track narrows and thought that could be the difference. So I just had about 5 or 6 attempts restarting over and over practicing the line for the first 2 rolls then went for proper attempt.

                      Which failed.

But I went around again and vowed to give it another try. And I missed the speed pads again but, I was ahead and I knew the margin between my ghost and victory was so small that being ahead was a good sign so went with it. Take the next few corners perfectly and line up for the ramp boost, the incessant crackling of the ghost ship projector in my ear.

                      And I nail it!!!

I mmove forward onto the edge of my seat now with just the final drop boost to go which I have messed up a number of times on laps where I land the ramp boost but adrenaline must have kicked in by now and I get it pretty much perfect. Over the line, check the time and crash into the wall as I jump out of the seat.

Need to hit up a lot of online races over the week now but I feel we can do this now Darwock. I expect progress when I'm back home in a few hours

Sweet.. sounds much nicer than the way I finished, cos I didn't even realise I was going to do it! You got to savour the moment. I'm not sure if it's the hardest of the trophies but it definitely gives you the most instant gratification when you beat it.

I've just finished Sebenco R which turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The hard part was just learning the track - nothing more than a few carefully timed airbrake presses needed, it's not as technical as it first appears. The AI on this one didn't go into god mode either. They pretty consistently took the first corner too wide and failed to hit me with most of their mines and bombs (because I was airborne 50% of the time). Only needed a dozen or so attempts to get the win, in which I had two clear laps in first position. Such a relief after Chenghou hell.

I seem to have had the opposite experience from you, I wonder if the difficulty spikes on certain random courses?

Not at all confident for the last two races though, I have only experienced them online but the narrow sections of both really gave me trouble.

Yea Sebenco took me over 90 mins

Sounds to me like you the better racr on the R courses. Inever "learnt" them. Just relied on weapon pads going in my favour and beat the AI at it's own game.

Don't know if you can draw that conclusion.. I mean Chenghou took me 630 minutes if you want to look at it that way! :P

I just had a look though and my Sebenco time was ranked 67th, so I'm quite pleased about that! I have also finished Ubermall R this moment.. not exactly a push over but not as bad as it could have been either. Mind you nothing that takes less than a day seems bad now. Sol 2 R is all that's left.

oh by the way, on that race one of the AI racers passed straight through me as if I were a ghost ship >< That's a new one even for them.

We should vow never to disciss this againonce we're all done and dusted.

I've got to be honest, this is the first time I've ever gone all out to complete a set of Atrophyments. I've never previously been attracted to them but this one game has unlocked something inside of me and now I want more. I think the way the game unlocked them serially helped as many of the other games (at least of what I played) seem to reserve them for a lot of "end game" scenarios and you can be at a very small percentage of completion after spending many hours (i.e. Blue Dragon took me about 60 hours to finish and in the process earned me about 25% of the achievements).

However so many of these in WipEout unlocked just through my play and after finishing Campaign I'd done so many that it seemed natural to go through the list and try the next one. I do think the general consensus that WipEout HD's platinum is one of the hardest to get also helped. We'll be amongst an elite few once we've done it.

As you mention, having someone else working on it helps. And overall, I do really enjoy the game a few problems with the Elite AI aside. I do find it odd that almost 6 moths on we still haven't actually raced against each other online though.

That's mostly down to the time difference I guess.. technically I should be asleep by now! I will have a lot of late nights in late february/march though, so (girlfriend permitting) I should be able to do a fair bit of online gaming with the UK peeps.

Warhawk started the trophy bug in me - a lot of the ones for those game are really good fun to go for.. a bit like special missions in the game. The problem with Warhawk's platinum is that reaching it requires (for people of my standards) about two years worth of playing the game every day... Wipeout's trophies may be more challenging but Warhawk's 'top' trophies are harder to get. It'll be the only game on my list not at 100% (and it never will be) if this Transcendence thing comes off.

Incidentally if you're seriously into the trophy thing you should sign up at ps3trophies.co.uk and make an entry on this thread. The initial set up takes a while which probably puts people off.. only four of us doing it at the mo!
