With plasma-cutter only you won't be able to knock 'em back into the busted gravity vents.

Saving the exploders and rounding them up along with baddies helps quite a bit.

Mission 12 had me by the nuts in three different parts, by no means lax.
I think one of the best bits of this game is that what seems to be impossible at first is usually achievable with a slight change in tactics. Usually I run off to the nearest store and pump up on ammo and health, then blat through the section not using half of it - just need to take some tiem to line the bad boys up and chop chop! I've really loved this game, currently manouvering the marker in level 12 but I'll finish it tonight.

I've got the feeling I'm just going to start over again on Hard.

Just finished it. Absolutely fantastic stuff. Kept me gripped from beginning to end - the second half was far less scary than the first but by that point I wanted to know what happened next and was really starting to enjoy accurate dismembering.

One of the best games this generation in my opinion.

Right. Time to start over - I fancy playing through with just the plasma cutter.

I cannot believe I left it so long to play this game.

It is absolutely brilliant stuff. The noise, the volume, everything just sounds so oppressive! A great atmosphere.

I had done a bit of background reading and decided to play through the game using only the Plasma Cutter on my first go - not sure if this is making it more tense but it certainly feels like it!

One quick Q - how do you do a standing melee (not the foot stomp) - in my moment of panic in chapter 3 starting the engines I ran out of ammo and managed it once. Then no more, Isacc was jsut stomping away getting killed after that.

Anyway, I actually love this. Everything feels so neat - the health bar on the characters back, the ammo on the gun. Good design choices.

Poor design choice? Real time healing from a menu. I do not understand the need for this.

Just press right trigger to melee. (Don't hold down LT at same time.)

Ha ha, cheers. I feel like a retard now.

I guess there are an unlimited supply of nodes available from the shop? If I am playing with just the plasma cutter I damn well want it upgraded as fast as possible!

Yeah, you can buy as much stuff as you like, as long as you have the cash.
The plasma cutter is the best weapon in the game. Fully upgraded it's a joy.
But do, at least on your second play through, try the other weapons, some are rubbish, but some are just fantastic, and makes shredding the bad guys an art*.

              *Dodgy Pantera reference.

Yeah - I was planning on a Hard run through to use some other weapons. This game has really grabbed me by the balls!

Unfortunately - as some people pointed out in the RE5 thread, this game may taint my experience of RE now...

Finally finished this last night on Medium & have to say I loved every second of it.

Simply awesome & the ending made me leap out of skin...fantastic.

Only drawback I can say about the game is that it has totally Resident Evil for me but thats a whole other thread

I will deffinitley replay it on Hard this time now I have some extra goodies to play with

Loved it look forward to a potential sequel now

Does impossible unlock after medium mode?

I'd do it on that instead. There's not much difference between hard and impossible from what I can tell. I'm on mission 10 impossible at the minute but I can't play when my friend isn't here or I'd have clocked it ages ago.

According to Wiki there is a sequel already in development. It must have cost EA an absolute bomb to make this game, I can't see how they are making their money back.

Yeah Impossible is unlocked now...I'll give that a blast later then

Good to hear there's a sequel on the way
This has easily been my game of 2008 simply awesome from start to amazing end

Apologies if I have misunderstood your point here, but did you know pressing X uses a health pack without the need for accessing your menu? Doing this will always use the smallest health pack available to you.

Anyway, I am near the end of Chapter 10 on Medium difficulty, I am definitely going to restart on a higher difficulty and play it again as soon as I complete it - such a fantastic game. Will post more detailed thoughts when I reach the end, but for me this is at least as good as RE4, and if RE5 is as good as this then I will be very pleased.

Bit gutted I didn't play it in 2008 as it would definitely be in my top 3 games of last year, probably up there with Mario Galaxy and No More Heroes as the top titles this generation so far.

Gah! I didn't know this; had the same problem!

This game has climbed my list of games after playing Mirror's Edge and Tomb Raider: Underworld. Very well put together. Still didn't give me joy, but at least it did what it did well.

Just started playing this properly now and I'm really enjoying it but I still think that the comedy gore gets in the way of the atmosphere.

I've just had a look at the DLC for this as I'm probably going to play it a few times. What a bloody mess, there's loads of it and it works out at about ?30 if you buy it all which is the same or even more than I paid for the actual game.

A quick question about it though, the pack contents aren't exactly clear to me.
Scorpion Pack - ?3:19 (Upgraded suit & powered up plasma cutter, line gun & force gun)
Scorpion Gun Pack - ?1:69 (Faster death dealing up plasma cutter, line gun & force gun)

Does that mean the gun pack is included in the other pack or are they different upgrades? Can anybody confirm this please?

It's really not clear and if they are repeated I can see some poor sods, who do spend what is really a lot of money getting the smaller one, buying the bigger one without realising they contain the same stuff.

This has probably been answered here ages ago but when I do complete it will I be able to take the stuff I've upgraded through the game again or does my equipment get set at the base level again?

In response to the posts about a sequel. I think the thing I'd worry about in that is if they try to change it too much rather than sticking with what works well in this game.

I would like to see more of the zero gravity stuff though...and a LOT less of the underpowered gun turret stuff.

Dead Space wiki should help with DLC explanations.
Dead Space Wiki is a comprehensive database focusing on the Dead Space video game series. The wiki is dedicated to collecting all information related to the franchise, such as gameplay, weapons, characters, locations, walkthroughs and more!

They say the DLC to buy if your going for any is the Tank Pack.
$4.00/320 MS Points, dunno uk PSN price.

Was a Level 5 suit at 60% damage resistance making it strongest in game and it looks creepy too covered in Unitology scribblings

Thanks for the link, I'm unlikely to buy them but I do really like the look of that one. It does seem that the same content can be in more than one pack.

I did get the free Obsidian Suit when it first launched which seems to be a steam punk Darth Vader...which I like.
