Just finished off Chapter 10 last night, still enjoying this and if I'm honest a more lax couple of chapters to round it off certainly won't spoil the experience.

Quick question on this - if you have other weapons but not shoot them do you still get the achievement for this, or are you not allowed to lay a finger on anotehr weapon?

I always carried another weapon around with me purely so that I could upgrade it. Didn't affect the achievement.

My first playthrough is strictly plasma-cutter only on hard. For the life of me I can't remember what level I'm on but it's

        the one with the soldier-necromorphs

Yeah, I know the bit you mean. I wasn't that bad on ammo at that point but it was still pretty tough and took many attempts.

With plasma-cutter only you won't be able to knock 'em back into the busted gravity vents.

Saving the exploders and rounding them up along with baddies helps quite a bit.

Mission 12 had me by the nuts in three different parts, by no means lax.

I have found that chopping up the exploders and then picking up the expolding limb is a nice 'recycling' tactic that saves ammo, but I've got the feeling I'm screwed anyway - I'll try it tonight. I might situate myself near the busted gravity thangs and try to freeze them and then smack em in.

I see there's an achievement for killing 30 things with the contact beam. A startling figure - I haven't managed a single kill with it, in fact I almost died trying to use the damn thing. Is it a joke weapon?

I've figured it out now, it was really difficult - I had to wait a second then release the fire button. Mind meltingly complex stuff.

AS SOON AS YOU START THE GAME ON IMPOSSIBLE, SAVE!
I've discovered it is possible to recover impossible mode. If you start a game on you new game + (the save file made when you complete the game) and then quit out, you will find Impossible on the New Game menu again.

Just completed the game. Good fun, but not as awesome as I was expecting. Something about it just wasn't very exciting/joyful (I get this feeling when it's a stellar game). Very solidly put together; I think the enemies in this game are a better realisation of the flood, minus the "flooding" aspect.

Bit annoyed that you can't carry your weapons over onto higher difficulties. Makes upgrading them seem like a bit of a waste of time. One of the worst aspects of this game is that Isaac seems stupidly under-powered when you start the game - it only really picks up about half-way through, IYAK.

Just finished my second playthrough, netting the achievements for maxing out all weapons and only using the plasma cutter. Haven't tried impossible yet to see what it's like, but am tempted to gun for the 1000 points.

I lol in agreement to the comment made earlier in the thread about subsequent playthroughs making the game into survival horror for the necromorphs.

Slowly making my way through the game (yup, still haven't finished). Upto chapter 7 now and Isaac is pretty badass and as a result its become somewhat less scary - so progress should be more rapid

Still loving it. Definetly one of my games of 2008 and as long as its sustained at this level of quality for another couple of chapters then its probably going to supplant Resi 4 as my favourite action horror game. It owes a hell of a lot to that game (well all its gameplay to be fair) but I prefer the setting of Dead Space and its just so damn solid.

One of the poorer elements of the game, for me, was the lack of variation in the environments. With the exception of the plantation level and the final chapter, it was identi-kit corridors. Admittedly, this is what it would be like to live on a space station, but it's one of the areas that makes RE4 so brilliant - a proper, old-school exploration of glorious locations. Also, I don't think they captured the "isolation" as well as Metroid, although I suppose they did have other characters!

Thats a fair comment, but to be honest I've been enjoying myself so much that I've not noticed.

Of course now you've pointed it out it'll probably drive me mad

Started this on Impossible today thanks to Mono, I'd started a new game on Hard a few days ago following on from my clear game but still no Impossible mode... you have to do all the Clear mode saving and return to the difficulty select screen before switching off the console. Silly EA.

Anyway, back on it now and caned the first two missions with total ease and a huge surplus of ammo. The enemies do take quite a lot of health off now though, I'll usually get myself killed on purpose if I lose too much health due to a stupid mistake and try again, only used a couple of health packs so far so all is looking good.

                            Still an excellent, excellent game.

Sounds stupid Dave, but how are you tackling impossible? I had a very quick bash at it and was taking everything out fairly swiftish - generally about 4 shots per necromorph (2 x leg, 2 x arm), and found myself running short on ammo come the end of Chapter 1 even...

Am I meant to be running rings around them and leaving plenty unkilled, or do I just need to be really tight with my aim and not miss anything? One thing that surprised me is that when I ran out of ammo I died shortly after, and when I was brought back to the restart point I was still on 0 ammo

Abuse stasis when it's in abundance, take the legs then go for the head stomp.
Make the most out of the explosive canisters. I get myself killed purposely if I've not made the most of them in a particular area, or if I piss around and miss too many shots.

That's all there is to it really. I had so much plasma cutter ammo on mission 2 that I had to keep running back to the store to deposit it in the safe, my inv. slots were full

My safe is stocked nicely with 2x large meds, 3 medium meds, about 5 small, and 75+ plasma cutter ammo... plus various other ammo for the 2nd impossible run through when I go to upgrade all guns.
