    Fallout 3

Just got the 360 version in the post from play.com today. Just say left the vault and got to the first town. The opening scenes/tutorial of live in the vault was pretty cool. Nice way of setting the scene and setting up your character.

Once your outside its a bit overwhelming to start with. I've had a quick look around the first town Megaton and now I'm off outside for a neb about. The atmosphere is superb, with the wind howling and dust blowing about. It really does feel alone and desperate.

Not sure yet. It does have a day night cycle that was well eerie though.

Are there anything in the way of lighting at night i.e street lamps?

The town I was in had lights, I left it at around daybreak and was walking through some wooden town ruins it was a bit scary until the sun broke and started to light everything up.

Cheers. One more quick question. Does it sound like Jauffre is back for all the voices in this?

            Should have mine tomorrow.

Not really not that I noticed. I'm just exploring an old supermarket now, its getting close to night so I'll have a look down a subway tunnel for shelter and goodies. Splatting the big roaches with the baseball bat is superb.

Just like vanpeebles, got out of the vault and into the first town. Will agree with him and say that the way the game is set up throught the opening scenes is really good. Especially liked how they integrated in the character creation/customisation into the opening, nicely done.

Gameplay wise, haven't really done too much to have a definitive verdict on it but what I have encountered so far has been rather good. I really like the VAT system, really adds another dimension to the combat. My initial fears were that it would make the combat to easy but after seeing first hand how it is setup those fears are now laid to rest. Pretty much everything else is quite similar to something like Oblivion, the character interaction, the third person/first person views, inventory etc. The only major difference being the inventory stuff is all handled through the wonderful Pip Boy gadget. It is really simple and easy to use, you can do anything from view quests to assign weapons to hotkeys.....it really is great.

Graphically it is a mixed bag but for the most part it looks quite nice. Think to yourself Oblivion but slightly better and you pretty much, in terms of graphics, have Fallout 3. The characters models have that Oblivion look about them but the enviroments are most definitely a huge improvement compared to the Big O.

Although I acknowledged that Oblivion was a good game, I just never could get into it properly no matter how hard I tried. With Fallout 3 however I think the setting and the way the game works makes it much more accessable/less daunting to get into, so I can actually see myself playing this quite a bit. Thumbs up from me so far

Is it technically a step up from oblivion as well. In that i mean is the framerate stable and have they improved the draw distance. People used to pop up 10 feet in front of you in O, hope these have been addressed.

God its going to be an expensive winter

I'm now not going to read anything else about the game on any forum since I should have it tomorrow and I don't want to spoil it for myself...

I might click on this thread in a few months time.

Just what I was thinking, I went for the GAME Exclusive Brotherhood Figure, but think it's abit dull, so was wondering what the Special Edition is like before I open my LE one.

How is the music? I loved the Jeremy Soule score for Oblivion
