I've just spent about 7 hours playing this today, my first time playing this sort of game and I absolutely love it. Time flew aswell, I keep looking at the clock thinking to my self I'll stop after 30mins/1hr etc etc, but found it difficult to pull myself away from it. I still cannot believe the scale of it.

Started playing this today and am not impressed by what I've seen so far.
The voice acting for starters - so hugely important to any RPG - is atrocious and lacks even a degree of emotion. It's just so wooden that it's difficult connecting or sympathising with any of the characters. The animation is also lacking and doesn't seem to have moved on at all since Oblivion, and the stupidly hard-to-read display of the Pip-Boy 3000, considering how often it needs accessing, is a huge oversight and outright **** up on Bethesda's behalf.
Then there's something most people won't care about but something that bothers me - the game's night sky. After Oblivion's stunning skies which I could sit and stare at for ages, I was expecting Fallout's to be equally stunning but there's no real constellations, all the stars are of similar brightness so there's not even any prominant patterns to form fake constellations, the moon's position in the sky is totally wrong compared to its phase and, worst of all, the stars don't even move across the sky. I mean, seriously, are we meant to believe nukes stop the earth from rotating? Christ, even Oblivion's stars moved across the sky.
I'll play it some more and hope it grabs me but I can't help thinking it's just Oblivion with guns. An old and tired Oblivion with guns no less.Last edited by Charlie; 11-12-2008, 23:05.

Fallout 3 has sadly found itself on the back list. I really want to play it but simply don’t have the time to invest so have been flirting with the more immediate thrills of Gear of War 2, CoD and Dead Space. I’ve completed
the Wilderness Guide for Moira, found the missing Android, reclaimed the declaration of independance and have progressed the main quest to Tranquility Lane
. Unfortunately I’m used up nearly all my ammo and find myself very vulnerable out in the wastes…..
and about the Stealing Independance quest..what did you do?
I killed the robot who thought he was one of the singatorys..bad karma be damned, didn't see any point to letting him continue the charade

Put a bit more time into doing the quests/upgrading etc and you wont have time to look at the sky.....Last edited by dvdx2; 12-12-2008, 11:22.

I returned to
Vault 101
last night. Up til now I'd been pretty good. I'd nicked a couple of things but that's it. After last night though I am now pure evil! When I went to to speak to the
new Overseer
to have a chat I forgot that I had
Charon
with me and he just shot him in the face on sight! I decided not to reload the game but instead let things pan out. Anyway,
girl whos name I can't remember
wasn't best pleased and asked me to leave at which point I created my own game of 'people who are ncie to me live, everyone else gets their head punched off with my Power Fist!'. Only one person survived before I left
Vault 101
for the last time.

Trophies support out now with 24 mb patch on PS3 version.
Good for those who are taking advantage of the recent price drops, but not for me when I'm near the end of the game. It's not going to be retrospective.
EDIT: Oh dear, it looks as though this patch might have created more problems. When killing mutants there are red objects (I think the most accurate word is planes, flat ones not flying ones) that obscure the view and get in the way of the graphics. I'm sure others will see this as well.Last edited by Btang84; 15-12-2008, 00:42.

How many books have people come across? (Like the DC medical journals). I'm getting to level 12 and the geek that I am I'm starting to leave my high skills at 75 and pump some points into the weaker skills that I still use like explosives (and even some I don't like energy weapons). I'd only need 7 or so books on each skill to finish them off. Are you guys finding them on a regular basis?

shame, you are going to miss out on so much - but if you have put time into it and still feel the same, maybe its not for you.

I started noticing the broken nature underneath it all last night. Terminals with functions missing because you haven't had the right conversation. Terrible graphic glitches. Insane conversations about things I need to do that I have actually already done, piss poor animation.
Overall I still like it and it's given me a lot of enjoyment but Bethesda need to update their core RPG engine IMO.

Other than that (and it was the first time I've seen it anywhere near that bad) it's mainly been the odd chuggy frame rate and a few early freezes though I don't remember having had any since my HD install. Still loving it though
