Can someone help me please. I just loaded my saved game and now whenever the game loads a new area and I have a weapon drawn it will automatically attack. For example I have my gun drawn I go into a bar the game loads and my gun fires one round by itself and usually hits someone resulting in me being attacked.

If I dont have a weapon on display as soon as I draw it I still fire one round off. If I have a melee weapon out it just constantly attacks....

I've gone back to previous saves and the same thing is happening now. Am I screwed?

You tried with a different pad?

Also you could delete the game data in "Game Data Utility" and then restart the game while connected to the web so it reinstalls the patch. Your saves will still work, so don't worry. Just make sure you don't delete your saves from the Save Data Utitlity.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I bit the bullet and went back to my save that loses 10 hours of gameplay to get the bobblehead i missed out on at fort raven, feels good knowing i can get a full set & im pretty much back to where i was minus a few quests im redoing.

Downloaded the soundtrack as those tunes that play on the radio have now burrowed their way in my head.

Looking forward to the GOTY edition so i can finally try out all the expansions, sure i could get them off live right now but i prefer if im paying to have them on a disk

Blimey! Played this for over 8 hours last night, about 5 hours (I think) over the previous 2 days.

I got into this game for a 10 days or so when it was released, then had a 6 month break from gaming. A chat-buddy bought it last week, and it kinda got me to play it again - at first I wasn't sure if I was in the mood for questing, but time just flies when you get into this game.

I think I've worked my gun-wielding perks & skills too high, because it's now become a bit too easy. I guess I was compensating for how hard I found it initially, before I learned to use stim-packs mid-melee. I'm now at level 16 and have a stash of about 30 stim-packs. Falkes definitely helps loads, but I'm looking forward now to going back & playing again as an sneaky evil character - I don't seem any good at stealth, any persuasion-based conversation option is sure to fail, and I'm still finding plenty of locks & safes that I'm not even allow to try picking.

I finding myself with mixed feelings over the "hacking" of terminals - it's quite straight-forward if you compare each letter of each word with the ones you've tried before, but that's a bit of a pain (it'd be easier if the words on the right hand side were right next to each other, instead of being interspersed with the "x characters match" text). Choose a word ending in "-ing" as the first one - if you don't get at least 3 matching letters then you can immediately rule out all the other-ing words; if "reading" gets 4 letters correct, then compare with all the other "ing" words beginning with "r". Checking every character of each word is kinda a slog, but often you'll find X letters correct in your first guess, another has obviously X letters matching that, but then when you count carefully it has X+1 letters matching your initial guess (ruling it out as the correct answer). And sometimes you just have an inspired guess!

I kinda want to write a computer program to cheat at it for me, so I can just look up the possibilities on my laptop, but I kinda don't want to cheat, either - it seems like it'd be the first step towards playing the whole game with a walkthrough in front of me. And it's kinda satisfying when you guess it correctly! Yet the the system is so daft, because you can just log out & try again if you guess wrongly 3 times. In fact Planet Fallout at Gamespy suggests the quickest way to hack a terminal is just always to click on the first 3 words, then log out and back in again until you get the answer - I'd guess this is sure always to work within 1/2 a dozen tries.

I played the game for a while before I got much cash, so my best weapons were all just scavenged from raiders and suchlike.

As for guidebooks ... I don't know, but it's not a difficult game, and apart from getting shot and killed, there's not much you can do "wrong".

Or save yourself some money and use this.

Well repaired Chinese assault rifles kept me going most of the game.

Uli, you will get better weapons as you progress in the game, and the raiders you encounter in the wastes tend to leave some decent fire power. If you are only in Megaton, you have no reason to have a big gun yet - as there is no threat there......... unless you wanna go on a rampage......... Having Megaton hostile makes the game less fun in my opinion. Without giving too much away - IMHO its better to have Megaton 'around' fullstop............

well, i had to travel outside of Megaton once to accomplish a mission and got wasted by raiders and wild dogs quite often...

i dont want to go on a rampage in Megaton. it's just that the pistol deals no damage at all and i'd like to have a decent rifle.

The manual that comes with the game actually mentions you can do this. Obviously, the word changes each time though.

Personally I played this when it came out. I was playing Dead Space at the time so approached it 100% incorrectly. A friend of mine told me to play it again but basically slot 90% of my stats into small guns for the first couple levels just to become handy with them then boost up my intelligence, lock picking and repair. I'm now 30 hours into the game with an abundance of weapons, repair skill is at 100 so I can fix guns up and never have any real issues. This is the only game recently where I've really relished booting up to play as it's just an absolute joy to me to waltz into a building knowing there will be all manner of caps/ammo/surprises within.

I'm now working up my energy weapons skill as I've been really enjoying sneak attacks with a fully repaired Laser Rifle.

                              The section

in vault 112 absolutely blew me away when it went all black and white with super happy music and my pipboy was a normal watch

. The experience is eerie, exciting, witty, clever and atmospheric. I'm having an absolute blast with it.

Just to add - I recommend speaking to Moira early to help with her Survival Guide - she'll ask you to go to the local mall to check out the food situation, that's where I picked up my first cache of rifles by sneaking about then shooting raiders in the face point blank. Lot of nice weapons/grenades in there. I recall when I first played I went off to Arefu on another quest which was a hard slog away - this turned me off the game as I also got destroyed by a load of enemies on the way there.
