Lot of nice weapons/grenades in there. I recall when I first played I went off to Arefu on another quest which was a hard slog away - this turned me off the game as I also got destroyed by a load of enemies on the way there.
thanks, will look into this Survival guide quest and see what i can find. i think this Arefu mission was where i got wasted too. think i spare it until i am better equipped.

That mall was a truly great moment in my game. My weapon ran out of ammo and I had to sneak around in the dark taking out raiders and talon mercs with my fists. The feeling of triumph after surviving it was immense.

I remember the mall as well, it was one of the first places I went when I was still super weedy. I snuck around and found a robot I could reprogram to kick ass for me.

the game is brilliant. got my first good weapon - the sheriff's AK47 - by telling him about Mr. Burke's plans. he instantly approached this Burke to arrest him and i am sure you will guess how this ended

I got my ass kicked, too, at first. The trick is to carry stimpaks and if you get low on HP during a fight then just open the PipBoy and inject yourself with them. Then go back to the fight.

Sorry if I'm telling you something you already know, but I didn't find this very obvious at first. I'm used to FPS games, and Fallout 3 is quite unlike them in the way it freezes the game whilst you heal up.

I'm now 30 hours into the game with an abundance of weapons, repair skill is at 100 so I can fix guns up and never have any real issues.
I definitely agree with this. Because I was forgetting to heal myself during fights I really got my ass kicked early in the game, and loaded my weapons skills up high as a consequence. Now I'm a bit too powerful, and kill any enemy with ease - it's become a bit too easy. Meanwhile there are loads of locks I can't pick, and I always fail when trying to persuade an NPC in conversation.

I definitely recommend the Super Dooper Mart as an early quest.

And apologies if you aready know this- but you can just assign stimpaks to one of your hotkeys and then just use them on the fly without having to go into the Pipboy.
It can make things a little simpler, but then again, sometimes I find it helpful to open up the Pipboy to 'pause' things and have a bit of a breather if I'm in the middle of a difficult battle or I'm getting whooped.

I for some unknown reason killed Moira the other night. Don't ask me why as it really wasn't worth it and I was getting discounts from her. I've only recently learnt how to sneak up and pickpocket too. I also found out that the nuke is a good way of clearing away enemies

Best weapon i found to use was the AZ11 Plasma Rifle or whatever its called. You get it from a quest in the ship about a cyborg who thinks he's human (fairly early quest if i remember). You have to do the quest a certain way tho to get it but its well worth it. Wastes pretty much anything in 2 shots using VATS when up close and personal. Also the combat shotgun is unbelievably good for close fighting. Just with these 2 i practically king of the outlands at level 13. Just had to be careful of long range enemies.

Long range use a hunters rifle or snipers rifle. I carried all 3 and a magnum

I also carried loads of frag mines and frag grenades. Great for setting up traps.

Even with these weaps and stimpaks, i still had about 230 or so spare for carrying stuff.

Minigun is good but too heavy as is the rocket lancher.

When is the Exp out as i can't wait to get back into it.

On one of her survival guide quests (towards the end), you team up with a bird and you get her Uzi's. They are brilliant guns. Hope you got em before you wasted her.

She is worth it as she's a total nuisance

one quick question for the veterans: why is sometimes so hard and tricky to target the head in VATS mode?

                        Comment

Headshots to most enemies in the game are either a one shot kill, or they'll take the enemy low enough to make sure a second shot will kill (Particularly if you shoot from stealth mode), so I assume it's a balance thing. Just take the Sniper perk when it's available to you, and there are a few weapon specific accuracy perks that will help (As well as making sure you have that specific weapon skill at a good level).

Also when your targetting in VATS, make sure the enemies arm or gun isn't covering their head. I also generally wait for em to get close before unloading in quick succession to blow enemies heads off.

well, problem is not the accuracy but the actual targeting of the head using the left stick. it sometime takes lots of adjustment until the head get's a lock-on. and no limb is covering the head...

Ahh, i know what you mean. Bet your playing the PS3 version?

You keep flicking between arms and legs but never seem to target the head. I had that problem and i think it was the PS3 pad being too loose when trying to select the head as the target.

I haven't seen this issue on my mates 360 version when having a bash but then the 360 pads are much stiffer and tbh, much better pads imo.
