Ok more impressions. I'v been working all weekend, but had fri, sat and sun nite playing this. I have almost exclusivily been using drums.

I have played some more of the solo career mode and it's decent. I wasn't too sure about the whole setlist idea, but it seems to make me better with the drums. First couple of shots my foot hurt from the pedal, and my wrists felt like I'd just had a furious chug, but after a couple of the sets I felt much more able to play longer songs after each other.

The setlist has largely been good. There are quite a few unfamiliar songs, but I can see a few growing on me already. I even enjoyed drumming to sweet home alabama (which, as a song, I don't particularly enjoy).

My paranoia with my drum kit seems to be just that, as it is working perfectly well, and I'm obtaining over 90% on a lot of tracks already on the medium level. I was a bit sceptical about using the two cymbals for star power activation, but once you figure it out it's fine. The trick is to fit it around the track your playing at an optimum moment i.e. when there is a single cymbal note, it's easy enough to slot it in without destroying your streak.

I have also dabbled with some downloadable content. The wife and myself like R.E.M. so we got the three song pack from the new album, and also the james bond theme (jack white and the keys bint). The jim bond one is quite good on the drums with a couple of nice tempo changes. The R.E.M. pack is brilliant for the drums, and I cannot recommend it highly enough, especially 'Mansize Wreath'.

Im not impressed with it. GHWT Id been looking foward to for the periphs but I got Ion drumkit so of course the draw was the new guitar. Havent had time to have much of a go with it but if you had asked me up till Saturday when I did the first lot of sets (up to Tool I think it was) Id have set their was some really good music which was about 5 set lists I did (I did Tool first out of the second bunch).

After I had done Tool which suprisingly I liked it all went downhill for me for pretty much the rest of the day on Saturday with the odd fleeting track like Eye of the tiger but alot of it felt like RB1 filler music (ie the stuff that doesnt count as track list and is in the optional to play). For me it didnt come back to enjoyment again till Hendrix and then the last set.

I just cant see me going back to this now Ive done it with guitar to play on the drums as the tracks I like apart from 3 are on RB1/2/DLC already and as I prefer its note layout (I feel on GH3/WT some of the notes I dont feel connected to) to me it just ended up being a £55 guitar with a free game nothing more for RB. Its ended up for me to be even more average than GH3.

Played a little more of drum career last night, but my co-ordination was all to ****, so I moved onto fifa!

I hit motorhead: Overkill (medium level) and just couldn't do it! My relative inexperience in drumming is really showing now, but it's still brilliant fun. I was also having a go on The Living End's "Prisoner of Society", which again is tough on the drums but having loved the track for years it's a real pleasure.

One gripe I have is the online scoreboards. Whats the criteria to go get your score on one? None of the songs that I have done with the wife (drum and guitar) seem to go on, only SOME of the single player ones. Is it broken?

This game is the biggest let down of the year for me, i do like the new drumkit and when its patched to work with rockband ill use it, im just not feeling this game at all, i played it for 2 hours last night, and it seems so bare bones compared to rockband 2, i dont feel you can even compare the 2 games, the audio isnt even anywhere near as good, when i compared it last night, all in all i dont really see me playing this at all and its a regret of a purchase, Rockband 2 and even 1 go way beyond this in terms of challenges and of course music selection, unless they release some killer downloadle content of firmly back to rockband.

            Couldn't put it better myself.

The odd decent track can't save this borefest.

I'm getting rockband 2 at the end of this week, so I will be able to compare, but I'm really not getting the Guitar Hero hate.

I'v played the first rockband at a friends house a couple of times and didn't get on with it, but that maybe was due to the instruments (didn't like the guitar and and drums seemed far too flimsy).

Out if interest, a question for you guys that arn't enjoying guitar hero:

Have you played all the previous GH games, and if not when did you start playing them?

Ive played GH2 and GH3 , so have a bit of experience, i much prefer the rockband guitar to GHWT one, i find it much more intuitive , it just that GHWT seems so bare compared to Rockband 2, you will understand when you get rockband 2 what a allround superior product it is. and of course i have a choice of over 400 songs to choose from, but my main reason for rockband favour is the notes seem so much better spread out and responsive to hit.

I have all the GH games starting with 1 on PS2. Big fan of 1&2 but they went downhill for me when they obviously moved to Rock band and 3 was meh but the new one is just a yawnfest for me. If RB had never come out I wouldnt be as critical of it but RB is just a much more fun experience.

If rockband 2 is as good as you guys make out looks like I'm in for a brilliant weekend!

(also got mk vs dc to come as well)

                      Goodbye daylight!

as long as you have plenty of content downloaded for rockband ,then just the challenege list alone could last months and more

                          Yeah, agreed.

I played GH1 and 2 to death, 3 not so much so and then RB constantly for months. Been on RB2 for a good few weeks now and it's incredible. I recommend buying RB1 and the key from Live or the PSN to get all the RB1 tracks (bar about 5) on the hdd for use with RB2.

Having such an epic track list is amazing.

The guitar with RB is far superior imo, too. Stunning (when it works properly).

i just find the buttons on the guitar hero guitar far to small for my hands where they are nice and big on Rockband and helps you kill the solos on expert

One of my buddies is lending me his rock band disc, so I can buy the key and rip the playlist onto the second one.

I must disagree with the guitar though. I found the rock band one to be spongy and unresponsive. Different strokes for different folks though.

Having to agree with the main views in here that GHWT is a million light years away from RB and especially RB2, which has raised the bar again so signifcantly over its predecessor and GHWT in so many ways.

It may just be me as im just so RB in every way and getting used to little circle icons over the big bold rectangular icons RB uses has been a mare on its own it realy has,but the actual sounds used in GHWT is realy poor compared to RB2.

As for the instruments themselves i have no problems at all with the guitars they are both fine and realy good to use,but again i still prefer my RB1 Guitar because of the struts it jas in the lower part of the neck on the guitar over the higher ones on GHWT guitars as its way less stressfull on my wrists.

The Drums in GHWT are way different to RB drum, yes there probably built more stable all round then my RB1 drums but thats about it and in no way do i get anywhere near as much enjoyment out of the GHWT as i do RB,yes at the moment when the GHWT drums work it all feels very good but neve rdoes it feel natural like RB drums do,and thats without any xtra cymbals added and although at the mo im waiting for the midi cable to arrive so i can adjust the sensitivity of the drum kit because my foot pedal and my orange cymbal are registering a lot of double hits instead of single,i still cant see this kit beating the over all enjoymeny and expirence of drumming that RB 1 drum kit offers.

The drum pedal itself is ok and is not set as high as the RB so your foot dosent ache as much as when playing on RB2 but again its in no way as good as RBs pedal cos one wrong move and a bit of xtra weight on either side of the pedal and your foot easily starts to slip off causing you a little foot distress whilst trying to hit double bass notes, but to be hnest i wasnt expecting this foot pedal to be revolutionary but i was hopeing it would at least work as good as RBs one.

As for the tour mode in the game itself is very shallow compared to RB2 asu just move from one gig to another just like previous GH games and some of the venues are aso very poorly done in fact if i wasnt playing drums i could easily convince myself i was playing GH2/3 and not a new game at all and even song selection menus areso ugly and boring compared to RB2 with its easy selection of songs by lettering ect ect.

So at the mo im very underwhelmed with this as a whole package, and once the cable arrives and i get achance to sort the drums out properly which was the reason i bought this in the begiing and the fact we were told we would be able to use the GHWT kit out of the box with RB1/2 and not have to wait for them to patch it,i can see me boxing this thing back up and getting my cash back and wait for RB2 instruments to arrive early next month.

Just my thoughts of course but dissapointed with it no the less.

PS if anyone can lend me a midi cable rather than me have to wait around for weeks to actually recieve one from red octane then i would be most gratefull and i will pay postage both ways.

                                G.
