The grenade-planting is especially good in multiplayer, and a great addition. Having someone walk into a boobytrap is one of the most fun ways to get a kill now.

        I think that the

monsters from the lab could play a much bigger part in a sequel, sort of like the flood from halo. The queen hints that Marcus' dad may have switched sides and started working with the locust, perhapse its planned that in the third game the humans and the remaining locust join forces to fight these new bad guys?

Not really sure how that would work, but just a thought.
I guess it would work exactly like

it did in Halo 3, with humans fighting alongside Locusts against the Lambent.

        Nice idea but
did it first, which was one of the complaints I read about against Gears 2 in that it borrowed so many ideas from other games just because other games made it a key feature.

Almost every weapon has it's own execution move, try them all

            You mean by pressing y?

Becuase I always seem to just punch them.

Breaking the neck of a "meatshield" (press X) is one you might have missed. I had to laugh when Marcus said "Here, take a break" when he done it. Also, some guns have two executions. (Lancer chainsaw from front or behind counts as seperate ones), so try hitting B with each gun as well.

Just finished this. Why oh Why did it have to end? GAH, got to wait 2 years now to find out what happens next.

Storywise it feels like an episode of Lost. I mean this by the fact that it opens up a hell of alot of questions and none of them ever get answered by the end.

I feel that the game is less tactical so far, and much easier than GOW1. (I'm on Hardcore) & I can't get into it.

Visuals are impressive in many technical ways, but the art direction isn't doing it for me.

Oh well! I'm sure it will pick up.
I'm glad to say that it certainly did pick up! This is a tremendous product. It's not my favorite type of game, but my god it's really has lived up to the expectations Cliff gave.

If you are a GOW fan, this must be very very satisfying!

Even for those of us who quite like the series, the quality, scale and visuals of the game are enough to melt any non-believers to at least enjoy the game for the popcorn thrills it gives.

My only concern from the start that remains is the difficulty.

My AI team are running forwards and taking all the kills (Do we have squad commands to stop this?) and I feel that the "Chess" tactics of the first GOW are not so present. This for me makes it feel more "Hollywood" and far easier on Hardcore than I remember. This may also be because I beat GOW on Insane, so my skillz are better than my first taste of GOW Hardcore in 2006.

Visuals again though! Some of the texture work is insane, you can't get certain metal items to pixelate at all, and the view distance and number of characters on screen is quite incredible.

I love Dark Space and felt that this was a benchmark in visuals. Now that I have played GOW2 again I see that the technical work of the Epic title is actually on a whole new level. Artistically I still don't connect with the GOW style, the buildings and bloated characters and browness are not my thing. But this does not detract from the brilliance of their engine and work.

So I'm playing a game I'm not that mad keen on, I don't like the artistic style and I don't like main characters, but I am STILL thinking "GOTY".

That say's a lot to me about the talent behind this game.

The gunfights and carnage are still just as adictive as ever!

Ah yes, but the tickers are a piece of cake compared to the exploding wretches in the first game. Man, I still have nightmares about them. I often wake up in cold sweat thinking about that bit where there was bloody millions of them, and each one was like a mini atomic bomb.

Though maybe I've been a bit unfair saying Gears 2 is easier then the first game. I dusted off my old copy of Gears last night and was surprised to find that there isn't a Normal difficulty setting, just Casual, Hardcore and Insane. So I'm thinking perhaps Gears 2 felt easier because I've been comparing the Normal difficulty on this to the Hardcore setting on the first one.

Still, there were only three bits in 2 where I really struggled - two boss fights and a driving section, and one of the boss fights was only tricky because of a bug where Marcus lost the power of his legs. The core 'stop and pop' skirmishes in this were a doddle, I thought. I think the new addition of teammates being able to revive you, and them not hitting the canvas quite so often, makes the standard firefights in this less of a challenge than they were in the first game. Those headshots are just as sweet, though.

I've just got to the bit in the underground caverns jobby with the big worm git. Gosh it's a good game. I have one question though: how the hell do you use the mortar? No matter where I aim it the shells always seem to land 20ft away.

Hold down fire and the distance bar goes up, then release!

Anyone saying it isnt grabbing em its like GOW1 it doesnt go welcome to GOW2 until Act3 then its stunning.

Finished it last night. I got to a part in act 5 near end and I nearly gave up after 2hours on it on hardcore and I find pretty much entire GOW1 apart from house and RAAM on insane a cakewalk. Issue was I think Dom just bugged for me. The whole team is fantastic but half way thru act 5 Dom just stopped doing anything apart from sitting behind a wall over and over so I was on my own and you cant be on your own theirs too much going on!

Im glad I know now how it plays as up to end of Act2 I was definetly underwelmed as it was abit easy with the team AI and the graphics PC GOW but now I know what happens after this Im glad of the respite on Act2 as the next 3 acts are just all out war.

It is the Empire strikes back of GOW though (Emipre was my fav lol) as its setting the story up its just a shame we have to wait 2 more years to find out what is what although Ive got a pretty good idea. Never felt cheated though just wanted to reboot but it was 11pm so had to go get my daily meal.

I cant say I didnt like anything about it and I could say that on 1 with the Kryll and the car on my first few playthrus. I ended up ramping the music to +1 from default. sound -1 and speech full for better effect (same as GOW1) as I adore the music on these games. I thought all the boss stuff was great but the best bosses are the mob ones. Im glad their is no Raam moment as I always felt he was a chore on insane (after a few playthrus I would knock him down difficulty wise to get him finished for another playthru) game just doesnt feel cheap if you die its your fault.

Lastability for lenght I thought was perfect, didnt feel cheated like the first one on 360 and I pretty much felt worn out by the end of it. Its about same size I guess as PC GOW1 maybe a tad longer so 10-12hours. Only glitch I found was the Dom bug on Act 5 which is either path finding or a glitch with his AI on my playthru rest of time everything was perfect never had a lockup or sound issue etc... very well put together single player wise.

Well done Epic for a epic series contiuation. Roll on GOW3 and its now time for co-op and horde

How do you know which Act you're on? I haven't exactly been keeping count and couldn't see it on the menus I was looking at....

Easiest way is to quit out then start a new game on another slot and it shows where you can now start and then just quit out again thats how I learnt what Act I was on as I kept panicking for first 2 acts that it was nearly done. After that I didnt bother as the games so big you dont need to worry lol It isnt like the first one though the entire game is just one huge act really.
