It's your fault Charlie - you spread The Hate over the internets causing his machine to self-implode rather than swallow the badness.

Haha. Yeah. But no, I don't think it's a bad game per se, it's just the controls (which worked great in Resi 4) and annoying AI partner quickly had me feeling indifferent and apathetic towards the game.

Give it a few more goes and see if it's something you can grow to accept/cope with/adapt to. Hopefully the game should have many, many wow moments, and I think after giving the controls a good bash, accepting what I can and can't do with them, I'm still on track with this game, looking forward to seeing what it has to offer. The controls are just something I'll tolerate for the overall experience.

Yeah. I'm confident the full game, while not matching Resi 4's genius, will prove worth getting. I mean, let's be honest, even if it's only half the game Resi 4 was then that's still better than most games. As for the controls, I do feel they should have been updated and think they feel out-of-date, but re-climatising to them shouldn't be too difficult.

I have to say I'm not surprised by some of the comments made about this game...

The first trailer we ever saw of RE5 had shadows sprinting and it gave a sense of real impending panic. Based on the initial trailer I thought the game was gonna play more like L4D and was very excited, but watching recent trailers I could see the game was again slow and a bit awkward

I don't doubt the game will be very well produced but Capcom need to be careful they don't get left behind.

They are Japanese, they probably will and don't care that they are being behind. DMC4 also lags behind, while its still a good game in its own regard. I expect RE5's evolution to be like that too. The enemies still morphing into items and the outdated controls are already in check.

The AI is what worries me the most. Its good in online co-op, but for offline sessions I am worried. I generally hate AI helpers.

Literally everywhere, the tearing occurs for me.

I'm playing via VGA but can't remember what resolution. I don't normally notice tearing that much in games but I found it really prominent here. So much so that I actually started looking for it every time I panned the camera.

Maybe it's a repeat of the Dead Rising situation so I'll put the res at whatever 720P equivalent is and see if that sorts it out.

This is an odd comment because the series was changed beyond recognition for RE4. I think RE4 is a very good game (but not the second coming on disc that seemed the mass opinion) but it was a Resident Evil game in name only. I much preferred 1,2,3 and Code: Veronica to these "nu-survival horror" games.

Every HD Capcom game has used modified versions of the same 'Framework' engine, so it'd be no suprise if the problems that plagued older Capcom games (screen tearing when scaling) are still present. The tearing is more apparent on different TV's however, simply due to how different TV's refresh.

Perhaps but by all accounts the problem was resolved for DMC4 so it's a shame it's reared its head again. But this is clearly a very old build (likely 4-5 months at least) so maybe it will gone from the final game.

Another thing I meant to ask earlier, is it just me or does the game seem edited down in gore content ? You certainly don't seem to be getting as many funky headshot explosions as you do in RE4 and it just comes across as less gruesome in general (apart from that chainsaw fella)

I know the Resi games get edited in Japan so maybe they've toned down the demo for them.

I would have thought it was that.

Be interesting to see if there's any difference if / when the Western demo comes out.

Yes you can download the file and burn it to a CD or DVD, but I guess we can't post the links here.

I have to say I haven't had a single bit of tearing on my setup. Sony KDL40W2000 at 1080p over VGA. I have had tearing issues with Dead rising and Lost Planet, but DMC4 was fine as well.

Personally I think its visually stunning, but I have yet to be blown away by the game itself. Like others I find the controls extremely clunky, but I haven't tried the alternate configs yet.

The enemies come over as very stupid when compared to those of L4D, but the style of game is different.

I don't know, its hard to tell from this small demo, but it just seems like another Japanese dev going through the motions again. Like DMC4 earlier in the year it so far strikes me as a visual overhaul to something we played a good few years ago.

Still i'm going to play it some more because the visuals are excellent.
