Anyone getting the US version? We should post our friend codes in here when/if you get it.

My US version is in the post but unfortunately due to the DS WEP only encryption woes you may have seen me talk about in this thread I'll never be able to go online

Also maybe we should have a thread in online gaming/challenges to keep track of friend codes as they will get lost in this thread after a few pages.

Can you not use WEP and use some sort of MAC filtering? Then just swap back to WPA when you aint going online with the DS?

Hmm, could do but so many other devices in the house rely on the routers current setting i don't want to screw everything else up for the sake of the DS (it would be pilot error, your plan sounds fine).


Back to the game itself, I want to play as a CAST, I hear they cannot use arts, what are arts and is this a devastating loss? Can i be a CAST that can use guns and swords?

Photon arts in PSZ are part of the weapon that use TP, like foie/barta do. CAST can't use those in any Phantasy Star game as they don't have TP. PA are useful for doing greater damage to enemies, or damaging a greater number at the same time.
CAST can still use the weapon though so don't worry about that.

Are there special weapons just for CASTs that make up for the fact that they can't use the photon arts inherent in other weapons? Or does the fact that they are tough/strong make up for it in your opinion?

They can use traps that other races can't.

I can't actually remember ever using a CAST. Very interesting...Sorry, Alec Guinness moment there.

I just picked this up. Is it me or have they changed the cool intro music from the Japanese version?

Just confirmed there are no problems playing together using Japanese and US copies of the game.
I helped Huxley level up to lvl6 (him US, me JPN).

Might as well recycle the friend code thread we already have here.

The idea of the game is quite simple, but very addictive. Get a mission and head through the portal. Fight through enemies, loot, find key cards, backtrack a little, kill enemies, loot, use keys, repeat all that a little, kill more enemies, loot, beat boss, loot. Get another mission

Then you have the deeper aspect of building up your weapons and mag (little pet that rides with you).

Enjoying it a lot more through being in English.

I tried to give the story a chance, but I found I just wanted to get on with the hunting/looting, so thank goodness for the skip button.

Great little game. Excellent to play with friends or randoms online.

Up to Level 19 now and managed to fortify a weapon, adding a stun attribute and Dark bonus. Think I may of done it all wrong in terms of the weapon used and the bonus, but still, I'm learning.

Thanks for the impressions, i'll be starting tonight so i look forward to having a crack at it. For those like me who have never played a phantasy star before the main website has a great breakdown of play mechanics, character and weapons types:

Don't forget to get your bonus items for achieving certain targets. You can collect them from the same place you store your stuff, via player info (or whatever it is).
