I find you have to be pretty careful with Abel's roll. You're not really completely invincible throughout; you can be attacked out of it. I used to roll into command throw but that trick doesn't work as well anymore what with an increasing amount of people wising up to it (they just mash c.jab/short, or just jump).

Or just do a raging demon...

Lol, if you're fighting Akuma, yes Though I've found baiting that particular ultra (or probably any ultra) with a short roll from far away will give you enough time to avoid Demon (that thing is quite slow, and all you need to do is jump).

Thought I'd try and unlock some characters today which then lead to me unlocking everyone except Seth.

I want to kick whoever decided to make him a cheap bast square in the nuts, my skill with characters such as Dhalsim are never going to be good enough to beat him.

          edit - Scrap that, Victorious!

            Hi

Just got this game today and I only have the 360 pad. So was wondering what would be the best button layout for me?

Also I take it that player match is best to go for online?

            cheers ears

Button layout depends on your characters I'd say. Personally I tend to go for
              LP HP
              MK HK
with LK on right shoulder. I find easy access to heavies is essential, I use LP a lot for slow fireballs/weak Dragon punch/etc, and use MK a lot in combos.

Player match is more easy going, so I'd start with that if I were you.

Haha indeed! Hopefully they'll do all the chars, ya never know..

Getting back to the above post, yes I should really start trying the short rolls, I'm always using either strong or fierce.

You think your little trick against raging demon could potentially lead into cross-up into ultra?

                    Comment

I see most people use short rolls against an active opponent i.e. one that's not down, because the longer ones are easier to get hit/thrown out of. The longer rolls still have their uses though, like rolling through fireball strings to get distance, or just to get distance when you can be fairly sure you won't get hit while rolling.

And I suppose it's possible to cross up after baiting the ultra. As I said, it's not too fast and really all you need to do is jump straight up and let it pass under you (or jump forward if you're further away) and ultra him in the back. Hey, you could even try countering it with your ultra and see if that works. You can probably test this in training. I would test it out, but I don't have Akuma XD

Got a friend of mine to try it. Raging Abel > Raging Demon

Alternatively, jab (lol) and super also beat it.

I use jab way too much in this game as Balrog, it's genuinely amazing the amount of people who don't block them and the damage all adds up (And sets up for other things).

Anyhoo, no need for 'Rog players to fear the EX Fireball any more!!

Charge Down-Back, Down Forward + PP and then Forward on the joystick
Cancels the EX Dash Low into a Dash Straight.

                            Source.

Been trying now for 15 or so minutes and can't get that to work but did find a nice shortcut to doing the charged Ultras. Holding back (or down back) and then down forward and then forward plus the punch or kick will do the super or ultra move.

But as much as I try I must be missing something about the move above.
