The gun turret section in Nova Prospekt is indeed the hardest bit, it's one of HL2's severe difficulty spikes. Took me many attempts to do it on hard. In the end I just had to abandon righting the turrents after they got knocked over and ran about like a headless chicken taking out guards then dashing for a new bit of cover.

I wish they had balanced the difficulty, it's all over the place, and along with those endless driving sections dents the game for me. Great game, but some way from perfect.

I found this a complete mare but finally cracked it after numerous attempts and different placements. Did you bring the turret from before with you, if not I'd advise going back and getting it as that makes 4 and a much fairer fight...?

So your gonna concentrate on the side without an upper walkway area so that they can only come at you from the ground floor. At the end where the turrets are found and on the side without an upper walkway, place one turret facing out through the energy wall, the next so that it's facing through the connecting corrtidor with the health and suit power-up stations. Then just to your right place one against the wall facing down the cellblock to far energy wall at the end and the last just across from this so it's facing the entrance from the other corridor that connects the two cellblocks. And off you go.

I just hid in the nearby corner where I could see all the turrets and used my smg for long range help for the turrets or shotgun up close and personal. Then just switch to the gravity gun to pick up any turrets that fall over.

      Hope that helps...

How tense is this game when you make it back into the city. It`s just a full scale riot, explosions, destruction, gun fire, rockets, it`s a mass scale war. This section clearly makes up for the earlier parts and can see why edge gave it the perfect 10. I`ve never experienced anything like it from a game tbh.

...it was "different". The game totally brings it up to the player to fill in the gaps, much like how they have to identify with Gordon themselves rather than being given a false character. Liken it to reading a book. But yeah, I'd have liked the gaps to have been filled in.

How many times did people spot G-man? I only saw him twice :|

I'm on that exact same bit, been playing on hard till here and not had much trouble. I tried your cell idea concept but I just get forced out by grenades. I was inches away, basically I set 1 turret up in the room with the wall mounted health facing right (with your back from where u just came). 1 turret facing forwards, and 1 directly behind it facing backwards. I then backed myself into the corner, it works as long as u dont let the 2 turrets get hit by any grenades.

oh my god, finally got this bugger to download over the uni network (went at 2mbps in the end ) and what the f**k? How dare they release something so amazing in the same week as Halo 2 makes it look even more average .

The game is a generation above every other FPS ever made and definately the standard to come. I think I'm gonna like FPS a whole lot more over the coming years if this is a new benchmark and it definately jizzes over everything thats gone before from a pretty great height. The most worrying thing for me is how well it runs on what is now a pretty basic system I really didn't expect this sort of performance from a Radeon 9600 but the frame rate is more stable I could have dreamed of, even in the open areas.

I only played up to the sewers so far, but the atmosphere has already more than kicked in. Theres som fantastic music to get you pumping, and the life support sound when you kill ppl is utter class

I was curious to see if this was the longest thread on the forum yet. I had a look and its behind last years official football thread (225 pages) and ahead of Final Fantasy XI (188 pages).

this thread will still be going when the sdk gets released. i can see alot of people creating excellent mods for this like they did with half-life.

                      re: the cell block fight.
Block 2 doors up with crates and barrels. Place the turrets on the other 2 doors.
Don't just slap the turrets in front of the doors, drag em back and rotate em slightly so they cover the interior as well as the doorway.

Then all that remains is to listen to where the action is, join in and occasionally re-stand a turret.

                        Just finished it now.

The ending... WHAT WAS THAT ALL ABOUT!

Seems to be a trend, games with inconclusive endings. First Halo 2, now Half Life 2.

The City 17 level was beyond outstanding, Striders are truly awesome. The Citadel was also superb, and had the kind of epic views I thought were missing from much of the rest of the game.

I wish they had fleshed out the plot a little. Even just one single scene with someone saying, 'okay Gordon, in the past 15 years x, y and z have happened'. I gather there are some hints lying about, but I never saw them. Will have to look harder next time I play through.

And that ending, well it's as mysterious as the first one for sure.

Put 2 turrets in back of 1 of the cells and hold the 3rd turret wih your gravity gun. Stand at the doorway of the cell with the turret your are holding sticking out onto the hall.

Effective, but not much fun though.

I've just got to Sandtraps. That buggy bit has been going on rather a while, but there were some brilliant sections along the way. Loved it when I got to the bit with the magnet, the Bink video looked wonderful and it was so cool to be able to actually play it at last

God knows what is in store in Sandtraps. Is it good? woot

What are the vibration devices for on the beachs? They don't seem to anything, I thought they would at least have some affect on the ant lions.
