It's available. Just in extremely small quantites no doubt, meaning it gets picked up by anyone who has put in a pre-order or has been sharking around for the merest hint.

Reports I read put it from anywhere between mid-September to October for widespread release. I over-reacted before. I can't imagine ATI not launching the x800XT in large amounts before Half-Life 2 launches. Not after seeing Nvidia do quite nicely in the run up to Doom III.

Not being ready for Half-Life 2's launch would give Nvidia another boost (i.e. impatient folk like me would go out and buy a 6800), which I doubt they'd be willing to do.

But you're right. The PC gaming market is in serious rude health, with the FPS genre perhaps being the strongest across all formats at the moment.

Earlier this week, Lombardi told Eurogamer, "we are planning to deliver a release candidate to Vivendi in August and we're hoping to see the product on store shelves this fall but we do not have a confirmed ship date at this time."

The week of September 30th anyone ?

Actually, the outdoors isn't looking as 'next gen' as the indoor sections suggested, though perhaps that's just jpeging.

                                Still, it's halflife
