I didn't, so don't tell me if I'm right or wrong.

I don't want to spoil Half-Life 2 at all, so I'm staying away from any specific forums to do with it since I heard of the script leak, but some things are just obvious. You can tell you arrive via a rooftop onto the streets of City 17 for example by noticing how at the start of the bink video you're in a lift. That suggests where you last came from for a start. You just have to piece together how they were originally shown and in what logical way they're likely to integrate with each other.

Spatial, here's a link for you on Counter Strike: Source.

Is there anyway for those of us with CZ, without Steam to get Source?

If you really want one there is a seller on ebay which puts one or two up every 5 days. Buy Now for ?399, he has loads of recent feedback from similar items too.

Infact he has one up right now:

I don't think its possible to do much of anything multiplayer with Valve games these days without Steam, sorry. Its why I've given up on them.

            Thanks for the link.

However, I already have a VIVO x800Pro that can be soft modded to an XT whenever I choose.

Almost bought one a few weeks ago but I decided to get a new guitar instead, there are rumors going around that an Ultra edition will be coming out though so I will wait and see if anything develops from that. I really wanted a new graphics card for Doom 3, but thats out the way now so I guess I will buy a new one for Half-Life 2.

As for Half-Life 2, I say we should delete any scripts being posted if anyone finds them.

Well... I finally snapped because I knew my old 9800SE wasn't up to snorting the mustard whilst the PC gaming scene has found its feet in rude health again.

As you say, graphics cards are evolving all the time. Buy an XT now and a 512MB Ultra edition wil come out a couple of months later. Get that, and an x900 XT Ultra edition will arrive, and so on and so on.

As for spoilers, I don't think anyone will post them on here, because all the people who've posted in this thread seem to be of the intelligent and thinking type who want to experience the game fresh.

Gamefaqs or a few specific Half-Life 2 forums populated by frustrated fans, anxious for anything, might be another story though.

Any clarity on the release date? I'm heating whispers of 1/9 for the U.S. and 13/9 for the U.K.?

(Although its more likely to be the 17th realistically)

I personally thought it had been put back till November in time for Xmas

                    If only.

I'd be in bliss if Half-Life 2 got an early September release. I do hope Valve play it smart though - Make sure there isn't a wide difference between the European and US dates. Otherwise we'll just get a repeat of Doom III, i.e. impatient fans who will most likely check out 'preview' copies before their own domestic release. A game like Half-Life 2 would seriously benefit from a worldwide release, but since this isn't possible, I just want it to launch in as many countries as possible on the same day.

In any case, my money is still on September 30th, simply due to the historical significance that date had to do with the original delay. Valve may also feel it would be good to honour a release around that time in consideration of the fact it was previously the date they hammered out to people.

Please tell me they're not going to stagger the release date across the Atlantic like happened with Doom III. That's just asking for trouble. I know the lost revenue won't make a dent in the overall profits, but why give pirates the chance to make any money in the first place?

It isn't exactly great thinking. You just know within hours of release (perhaps even before), Half-Life 2 will be up at the likes of Suprnova in a flash for people to torrent early and free of charge.

Let people have access to the full game in retail form straight from the off. No one or two week delays...

There is one way Valve will be able to counter impatient high-speed connection fans who may not be able to get it in physical form on release date.

Steam. Hopefully dedicated fans will head there instead of a P2P site if the release is constant across the spectrum through it.

Trouble is thats had such a bad rap will they? I'd be more comfortable bittorrenting than steaming to be honest.

I think Valve have said all along that it would be a worldwide release, and they would have to be pretty dull to go back on that.

If they've taken a break from beating the guy that accidently leaked the script with a sack of door knobs, they've probably seen what happened with Doom 3 and will be keen to avoid that.

I've heared the 1st September release date banded around, but I think thats an off shoot of Steam pre-loading the textures and sounds yesterday - which in itself is pretty exciting as they must be close now !!111!!!!!!

I'm guessing a release will be, at the very latest, September 24th. I'm expecting a press release any day now from Gabe giving the date for the big day.

Anyone else going to be booking time of work etc ? I'm having a two day shut in / incomunicado period when the games released.

Ish - I'm going to try to resist torrenting before picking up the retail version if I can. Hopefully Valve will have sorted various aspects of Steam's infrastructure to help improve it though come release. If they do that, then I'll support them online if I can get hold of a first edition copy.

I know it's hardly the most popular of their ventures at the moment, but Steam does have potential.

Spatial - Don't man. Don't get me all excited. We're only talking about the biggest PC game (and arguably videogaming's) of the century so far just being around the corner. If Half-Life 2 does come out anytime in September I'll be a happy boy indeed. I'm going to completely shutdown on whatever day I get Half-Life 2, lock the door, unplug the phone, insert my headphones and draw the curtains. I'll try and complete the single player game in one or a couple of continuous sittings.

When unbelievably huge titles like this come around once in a blue moon, it's good to give them the attention they deserve.

It looks like I'm going to be getting a new job soon... I really am thinking about calling in sick, as few as 10 days before I even start working there. Either that or I will have to avoid sleeping in order to play this game as much as I can.

Either way, I'm going to be ingesting a lot of coffee.

PLEASE RELEASE ON FRIDAY: I'll take friday off, and monday off. Then I'll be able to complete the game. Sweet.
