Taken from Eurogamer ( who got it off the Half-Life 2 Fallout forum ) :-

Valve Software boss Gabe Newell has revealed a few more details of the forthcoming Half-Life 2 in a post on a popular web forum - including the fact that the company is currently aiming to finish work on the title in August.

"To the best of our admittedly weak planning abilities, we are looking at August," he said in a post on the Half-Life 2 Fallout forum, where he also discussed a number of other details of the games, including internationalisation and installed size.

This confirms earlier comments from the studio which stated that Half-Life 2 was on track to be completed this summer - although publisher Vivendi has not yet announced a release date for the game, and there has been some suggestion that they may leave it until early autumn before actually putting the game on shelves.

Newell also confirmed in his post that Half-Life 2 currently takes up 2GB of space compressed (unpacking to a 3.5GB install), not counting extras such as CS:Source, HL:Source and DOD:Source, which are updates of existing Half-Life content to the Source engine and are expected to ship with the game.

As such, the game will almost certainly ship on a DVD, although we'd be surprised if a CD version of the game doesn't also appear - even if it seems somewhat unlikely that anyone with a PC powerful enough to play Half-Life 2 will be lacking a DVD drive.

In terms of internationalisation issues, Newell revealed that there will be a special German version of the game, with toned down violence, and that the title is being localised into English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Thai.

      New CS Source Video.

this is the best footage of CS Source you will find, it's not the E3 Aztec vid. It shows Italy, Cbble and Dust it's been dubbed in German but some of the key info from the vid is:

? After the initial release, Valve plans to add more maps that utilize the engine's capabilities.
? New Counter-Strike maps may be up to 10 times larger than current ones
? Valve wanted to do jungles maps for a while (*hint hint*)
? They're currently figuring out to what extent new objects are being placed in the maps

              Demo? Or Beta?

If there's a demo I'll cream my pants.

You have to pay to download the file now apparently. A standard CS Nation login doesn't cut it.

                      Further delay??????

All I can see on that page is the same old stuff that seems to suggest a September release.

                      Am I missing something?

September was the release date most people had pinned their hopes on, considering a summer release was touted by Valve quite publically.

If the master is being submitted to Vivendi in August it's highly unlikely for a September release, not when you consider elements such as PR and disc-pressing have to be put into account.

A fall release is looking like October/November/December... A few months after Valve had said summer, which incidentally they've since claimed to have met by basically suggesting they only meant 'summer' in terms of disc submission, and not actual release.

Played the leaked beta, but if you've seen the E3 vids, then you're not missing anything. It does play nicely on my video card which was surprising as its not an expensive one and its an Nvidia. Was going to replace it with an Ati for the release but I might not bother now. I wouldn't bother going to the trouble of playing the leaked game tbh - there aren't any spoilers, IMO there's been too many of them in the vids.

But better news in the form of a rumour saying that Doom III is done and should be here within a month.

                            Not too bad actually...

Coolio, although the graphics card spec is a bit vague. And let's face it, that's the most important piece of kit.

Yeah back when it was supposed to be coming out in September 03 valve were saying it'd run on a 32mb TNT which I find a bit hard to believe now. The fact that it says the minimum is a Directx 7 card may suggest that it'd run on all the Geforce MX cards which don't seem to be able to run anything nowadays.
