Half-Life 2 (PC)

I don't even have a pc and i'm still eager to see how half-life 2 and doom 3 come out. Though i think doom 3 could be a disappointment. Single player games havent been id's specialty, and gameplay looks like a lot of old style backing down corridors while firing at onrushing enemies. This reliance on creating a scary atmosphere and making the game an experience might not work with id's deathmatch fans. Plus it'll be up against HL2. Kinda like when sin was knocked out by the original half-life, even though 6 months earlier it would have been winning awards all over. And with HL2 you know some mods are going to blow the official game out of the water anyway.

With both of them coming out so close (and halo 2 i guess), it reminds me of when oasis and blur competed for number one in the singles chart, only not as gay.

I played the leaked version on a Nvidia GF 5900-XT and it looks fantastic which surprised me tbh.

Is Doom being done by ID "proper" or have they farmed it out so they can concentrate on Quake IV?

Doom on the pc is being done by id proper, while the xbox version has been farmed out. And last i heard (long time ago) quake IV had been farmed out to the guys who made the q2 mission packs and updated the q2 engine for kingpin. Xatrix or something?

edit: nah...it's raven, though i think they're something to do with xatrix.

Yes the xb version is being done my some other company....well they are porting it from the pc version anyway...

The Xbox version of Doom 3 is being done by Vicarious Visions, the guys behind the Tony Hawk games as the JSR port on the GBA, of all things. Apparently they're doing a good job.

My PC is about 18 months old, how likely is it that it will need upgrading for HL2?

That edge e3 movie is annoying. Whoever made it was a bit too keen on fading to black. It's maybe 3 minutes long with 2 and half minutes spent in total darkness.

Doug Lombardi: Things are progressing very well. We are planning to deliver a release candidate to Vivendi in August and we're hoping to see the product on store shelves this fall but we do not have a confirmed ship date at this time.

Doug Lombardi: Yes, we plan to make them available at the same time.

Half-Life 2 due out mid to late September (30th anyone?), and ATI aren't even scheduled to release the x800XT at full available retail until mid October?

Well that's skank, considering ATI need the game to highlight what their card is capable of, and it's also thought to be the prime video card to highlight just what Half-Life 2's engine can do too. Both are meant to go hand-in-hand, yet it's looking more and more likely they aren't going to be ready for each other publically at the same time.

At this rate, the x800XT won't be ready to retail alongside Half-Life 2 at the game's launch? Good way to shoot yourself in the head ATI.

The prospects of me picking up a 6800GT/Ultra are becoming ever more pronounced.
