Interesting tidbit from the review... Don't worry mods it's only a small quote.

"It was all in that moment when I laughed. I couldn?t believe it was quite this good. I chuckled in muddled disbelief. My nervous fingers reloaded the level, knowing that I had to see that breathtaking sequence one more time. It was then I knew for certain: Valve had surpassed not only themselves, but everyone else too. Half-Life 2 is an astounding accomplishment. It is the definitive statement of the last five years of first-person shooters. Everything else was just a stopgap. Half-Life 2 is a near perfect sequel.?

      Also it says

      It's: Astonishing, Robits!, Revelatory
It's Not: Ever stupid, Corridors, The end of the story
      and

"A symphony of shooting, a ballad of blastery. Gordon's story finds a new and astonishing trajectory in a brutal dystopia. Own this."
Like we needed telling to go any buy this game !

I hadn't seen that last sentence you quoted. Gloriously overwritten.

I would post a link with the entire set of screens, because some are missing in Inertia_'s link (presently) but I don't think it'd go down favourably.

                FreelancePolice, yeah it looks awesome.

Without a doubt those pictures are stunning ! Simply stunning.

The detail on those characters in overwhelming, without even starting to look at the detail in the expressions. And then there's the detail in the background !

I have a feeling I'm going to be overwhelmed playing this game. I'm definately going to take my time and savour the whole environment.

I just wish they'd give us a release date now so I can book my two days off work to play !

Links to the screens in their entirety.

And before the mods jump to any conclusions, these screens appear to be on a professional videogame website as an article. Whether they're approved or not by Valve is another matter though.

If not, feel free to remove.

In Half-Life 2, the player again picks up the crowbar of research scientist Gordon Freeman, who finds himself on an alien-infested Earth being picked to the bone, its resources depleted, its populace dwindling. Freeman is thrust into the unenviable role of rescuing the world from the wrong he unleashed back at Black Mesa. And a lot of people people he cares about are counting on him.

When can I get my hands on PC Gamer then? Last months issue said its released today but I've heard that it might be Monday now.

Anyone seen it in the shops today?

5th October I think for PC Gamer (UK), although their website says different.

As for this information from Eurogamer... Apparently, it appears as if someone high up from a retailer (GAME probably) has 'leaked' the news they were given by Vivendi off the record to Eurogamer. If you look at the article.

That's how it seems right now, and why this date looks more promising than others in terms of being real.

One of Eurogamer's writers has stated on the site's forum to explain the situation:

Shelf space has to be booked, window displays booked, ad campaigns taken out - this has all only just been given the green light. This isn't idle speculation and comes from very good sources. Trust us, ok, we're not a crappy rumour site.

Good news suppose but I'm still pissed off, that's another 7 weeks ffs!

Bah but it's a date so ho-hum I'll cheer up eventually I suppose. Just it's gonna clash with Halo 2 now and I'm not diluting the experince of one with the other (he says).

On another note does anyone know what hardware it was reviewed on and performance comments, would be of interest...?
