[Concept]

Just to be clear, the cache is 500MB compressed on the wire, which is the number we track closest as it's the amount of data that will be moved across your internet connection.

Uncompressed, the files in this preload are around 1GB. For Half-Life 2 to run, they have to be in this state. The first preload event contains most of the textures that Half-Life 2 needs to run.

This is the first of a number of preload events. We'll be adding more data to the preload over the next couple of weeks.

Weeks until the pre-load is finished. Not days. And that's before purchasing and release options are (most likely) made in any way clear... We'll be very lucky if Half-Life 2 meets September now considering it has to go Gold and hit retail before we get it on Steam.

I'm taking a step back from Half-Life 2 until it comes out and avoiding hype from now. The build up to a potential near release has been rather anti-climatic.

I'm guessing it'll be two weeks from Monday before its released. Even with a slight delay round about now I'd say we're looking at the end of the month the latest.

Time to break out the HL2 themes and wallpapers, rewatch all the Binks, and generally get even more excited about HL2 than ever before !!

Just a heads up, the IP that the post was made on does not match gabe's previous IP(s), and does not match any ISPs gabe uses (valvesoftware.com, speakeasy). It resolves to www.authentichendrix.info and a port scan and google search of the IP shows it as running proxy services on 8000 and 8080.

Maybe it's some mix-up I'm not 100% sure yet. The IP is based in seattle, but maybe it's a clever fake. If this is not gabe's post it means he has, once again, had an account hacked.

A forum post from Something Awful. If one of the forumites over there has pulled a wacky 'comedy' stunt and hacked Gabe Newell's account at the Half-Life 2 Fallout forums, then it was a really ****ty thing to do. Here's hoping there isn't a twist to this news.
