Just had a little walk around but it said my ati drivers were out of date so i quit out and i'm updating them now just so it's all perfect

well the first thing i noticed was how much atmosphere there is, everything just instantly immerses you in it, i have only played for 10 mins tho

So far I've played for half an hour and it is brilliant. I haven't even got into any fighting yet. One spectacular moment for me was when you first get out into the city, you open those double doors and then it hits you. Very atmospheric. Got to go to uni now to do some work, will try to get back as soon as I can.

I got to the menu screen (after COPIOUS loading), selected start new game, yadda yadda. After the miliest of miliseconds worth of loading, it just dumped me back to the main menu.

Have you tried upgrading your graphics card drivers?

Well I've played an hour and I got stuff to do now too but goodness me it felt great! Bags of atmosphere as has already been mentioned and loads of lovely little touches that amused and delighted me!

The recreation of being in a real city is unbelievable too. I spent most of my hour just roaming around like a fool and seeing what I could get away with! Crates and bottles on peoples heads etc...

A couple of people are complaining it doesn't work

This has been suggested, but I don't have a clue if it will work or not

If you go to Valve, Steam, SteamApps, your userprofile, half life 2, you should see a bin folder. If you copy the contents of it into the main half life 2 directory that might get you to load up the game. The problem I was originaly experiencing was I would get the Valve intro screen and then it would go black, showed an hour glass, and then just crashed.

They're only a couple of weeks old, but there are some new ones, so I'll give it a go.
Thank god I'm on broadband. Five minutes wait is alright, an hour on 56k would not leave me happy.

I'm gonna try updating my sound card drivers too.

hl2.exe tries to access the internet - since I have zonealarm installed it wanted to ask me what to do (similar symptoms)
Make sure zonealarm is off, or allow access to hl2.exe

So far... just playing with objects
