on counting each save after a fight in career mode flashes 6 different boxes up regarding different aspects of the save, these are overlaid on top of the gym which brightens up then darkens for each message box, its the crappest piece of design I've seen in ages.

still loving the fighting though. I go in spurts of wins, its as though I have to get my fighters stats to catch up with where it wants me to be to climb the rankings.

the training sparring is nice but again the dog of a front end hampers it a bit, try deleting a bunch of mails or changing your short logos layout and count the button presses, its a joke.

I'd say this has surpassed FN3 for me as the greatest fighting sim, FN4 doesn't hold a candle to it from what I've seen of the demo.

I got up to fighting the top 10 ranks and got absolutely destroyed, if I get taken to the ground by someone decent I find it hard to recover.

        Totally agree again Merf.

Press Y - "Are you sure you wish to delete?"

Well yes, why else would I have press the f*cking button that corresponds to "delete" if I wasn't sure?

this is definitely a little zippier if you install it (all 8gigs), obviously doens't stop the flashing messages but load times a little quicker.

top ten seems a real step up in class, I can strike at that level but as soon as I get taken down its game over.

love the pre-sparring pep talk - one of the guys warns you not to let your sparring partner 'have his way with you', not sure what the button presses are to do that.

Thing is, I'm not sure I'm gonna play it enough to take my current installed game off. I generally have the game I play most online (at the moment it's Fifa 09) installed to (in theory) prevent any hanging or crashing...I guess I should really invest in a larger HDD but it's not a priority for me.

It's a great game but it's gonna live or die on it's online, something I've yet to try out. I have two concerns online though, firstly that when you can take a created character online (and this happened in Virtua Tennis) people always tend to use the best character and you end up being forced to do the same unless you want to be beaten every single time. I want (like in VT) to play as the character I've created, but if you are just gonna get annihilated because everyone is using the the character with 99 stats, it's just pointless.

Secondly, I'm concerned that everyone will go onto Fight Night when that comes out, but I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. The 360 especially seems to be a console that games have an online life of about 2-4 weeks (exceptions obviously being Call of Duty, Halo, etc) unless it's absolutely incredible (see aforementioned exceptions) and I'm not sure I want to invest time it online only to find that as usual, the online community becomes a ghost town in a month.

The menus are over the top but I've got to call this out as being perfectly sensible. People would be in uproar if it just deleted your save if you accidently pressed Y

I don't agree, the 360 dashboard has one button deletion of messages etc. I don't see the problem with making things less clunky at all.

Sorry, for some reason I thought you were talking about saves! Anyone whose played N+ on DS will see why I jumped on that! Not only is there no confirmation to delete save games but it's the default option to start a new game and wipe what you had before! Madness.

Anyone staying up to watch the UFC tonight? I so want Machida to pound Evans. Damn that Evans. He's annoying even in this game!

Can well believe that - I just went to buy this but unfortunately my local Game had zero copies for the 360

Had my first truly awesome online match last night against a lag free rank 9 Machida. I was using Forest and the match went into the third round, he was mainly going for the ground and pound which I was able to keep escaping.

In the third round I caught him flush with a side stepping punch which sent him to the ground, followed it up with diving punch and then got into full mount and ended it with hammer fists.

This is my favorite game this year so far. As fighting games go this is so complex and deep it leaves you with an amazing feeling of satisfaction. All it needs is some improvements to the online modes.

online is a bit of a laggy mess TBH, i did have one brilliant fight though where the guy was taking me down endlessly and I managed to get out and notget submitted, then in the 3rd we both stood up and I left hooked him into next week.

i was shouting at the tv at the excitement of it all.

fought a guy who had made up his own fighter called Fedor Emilianenko, was a really good likeness too (not sure of the stats) - I had the hump for a while trying to work out how to unlock fedor until I realised what he'd done.

can't see how a career ends either, my fighter never gets officially any older in the tale of the tape, which isn't the hardest thing to code up, I was expecting FN3 style ageing process as your stats diminish once you go past a certain age

as if to prove my own point of how bad the menu system in this is after 25 fights in career mode I have just discovered how to level up my fighter and actually attend the boxing/floor sessions I keep agreeing to attend, quite possibly the worst design I ccan recall in a game.

its good job that the fighting is so amazing, now I attend these schooling sessions its opening up even more that I didn't realise in there.

if this is going to become an annual franchise the fighting is totally superb and hard to see how they can improve it significantly, there is a lot of scope for improvement in career design and single player game modes though

i think as I'm so taken with the actual ring events I'd give this a 9/10 this could be a tad rose tinted though for some less willing to forgive its structural 'quirks'
