There are no stat increases with levelling. An increase in your Hunter Rank only reflects how many monsters you've killed and what quests you're able to go on.

You can change weapons between quests as often as you like. There are no skills that increase. The only thing that increases as you play on is the strength of the weapons and armour you have.

I like bowguns. But I spent the entire offline game and up to HR100 online using a slash axe. How well you use a weapon just depends on how much practice you have with it.

With the Long Sword/Katana i'm pretty sure i've seen some kind of move where the person slashes forward, but can't seem to figure out how to do it. Any ideas what is the button combination? Tried to google it but can't find anything about it.

Also with the slash axe i've seen some move where the character holds a position then shoots out some kinda explosion, no idea the button combination for that either.

With the katana there's a forward stab, is that what you mean?

For the slash axe, have it in sword mode, press + so your character stabs it upwards then keep tapping X.

With the katana the attacks are downward slash, jab, upward slash and horizontal slice. The horizontal slice is done by pressing the R button. Some of the attacks change depending on what they follow though, so just practice and see what works.

Cool, i dunno if you know this (just noticed you didn't do it in your vid) but if you press X+A you do a sort of evasive swipe.

Just X+A swipes backwards, left/right + X+A does a side swipe.

I've rarely used the katana to be honest, the slash axe was more my style. Until I went back to the bowgun.

They are both things you get from the Village chief after free hunting (going out onto the island NOT on a quest) lots of the two different kinds of bugs. Any items you can't seem to find come from the chief after killing stuff in free hunt.

I'd love some hints on Barroth. Been playing for 22 hours on the Pal version now and just can't kill the clucker. I get him to go to sleep and then he just starts going mental and bashing the cluck out of me. I'm currently using a bone hammer.

Though with the hammer you need to go for his head. Try to get him to fall into a trap and go for his head then. I'll try and make a hammer video later on for you.

I'm thinking there'll just be North American servers. I'm not so happy about not being able to play with Europeans. I'm going to keep hoping it's not true.

As for advice Strider, I tried with that hammer and it took me 44 mins to take down Barroth. The best advice I can give is try as a bowgunner, using the penetrating bullets and water ones. I know making a new lot of armour isn't easy at that stage of the game but it'll help. The only way I could manage to beat Lagiacrus the first time was as a gunner.

Having a shield on your gun is also a big help when monsters charge, just don't try to shoot as they do.

Is it best to have most weapon types in your inventory chest or can you get by sticking to one?
