117 hours and got the end credits in offline mode.
You have to fight off a giant beasty call "Naputadeus". Then you get a cut scene of the villagers welcoming you back and the credits.
The offline quests only go up to ***** and I still have a couple left to do. Then Urgent quests are added where you have to fight 2 big monsters.
I'm going to be spending more time online I think as you can make better stuff that way. Which is a bit of a shame as it does kind of detract from the offline mode.
Edit:
Just finished the *** urgent quest online.
Oh my god! Fantastic fun! We kicked the crap out of Jien Mooran 4 times and all cleared the quest!
HR31 and onto the Master servers I go!

Just about to crest 250 hours now and got to HR60.
Having beaten every monster in the game, it does get a little boring. The enjoyment only comes from hooking up with a crew of friends and going hunting, or doing event quests to get special weapons (like my special JUMP Pirate J Axe, heh heh heh).
Problem is the guys I usually hang with haven't be on this weekend so I kind of wandered between groups fighting particular monsters trying to get items to make better weapons. Bloody ryuudama! (Wyvern's Stone according to wikia) I need 3 more to make my Soul Breaker and just can't seem to get them...
I've seen guys online at HR212 and can't imagine them actually spending that much time online since August 1st. Every once in a while Capcom flashes up a message about playing with altered data being against the rules of the online service so you have to wonder.

I reached the credits in offline mode last week. I've clocked just shy of 80 hours so far and haven't even touched the online side of things. Although it's one of my favourite games of 2009, I'm a little bit disappointed with the small amount of monsters and weapons compared to Freedom Unite/2nd G.
I'm hoping to go online for the first time within the next week or so, when and how often are the event quests held?

And with a heavy heart I must hang up my online playing of MH3 (J-version) at HR130 as my Hunter's Tickets have finally run out. If I don't stop now I never will. I thank all who have been with me on my journey, especially Takuya and Zeon, with whom I beat Jien Moran and the Albatorian, and KusoGaki and Nisa, who were with me in my final quests.
BUT!
I shall return in MH3 (E-version)! To hunt, to capture and to win! Pack your slash axe, it's going to be one hell of a ride.

I have just preordered the US version but have a little question about leveling up...is it possible? I mean, I was never really interested in Monster Hunter before and all the knowledge I have comes from screenshots. Kriss, you said you prefer the bowguns, how does that plays out in the game? You just pick a weapon in the beginning and then work out the stats as you level up to improve your character's specific weapon handling or you pick the weapon you like and from there you work your player skills with the weapon, level ups increase your health and stats but do not corner you into a weapon speciality, making possible to switch weapons between levels or based on the mission you have?
