But in SF4 they also took things away that were added in the Alpha and SF3 series and there's barely any new moves for existing characters. In fact some were even taken away. What has impressed me about Tekken on the other hand is that so much has been added to pretty much every characters arsenal affecting the way they play. I hope Super SF4 will do that and put in some half decent modes too where it was severely lacking.

I do agree though that it would be good to see some innovations in the fighting genre. The thing with Tekken though is that it's one of if not the biggest arcade fighting games out there where it's played very competitively like a sport (especially in Japan and Korea). Changing the rules greatly would a be a big risk for a major tournament fighting game and Namco already got burned trying something like that that with Tekken 4. It's shame really but I wonder how fighters will fare in the next gen considering they don't seem to really get affected gameplay wise by technology any more.

Just had a bash of it on 360 last night, after somehow managing to detach myself from MW2 for a bit.

I bloody love it, although I can't stand these awful, awful massive bosses they keep conjuring up in the Tekken games. It completely ruins things for me having just elevated up to fight Jin in a scene that reminds me of meeting the last boss in Streets of Rage 2 only to suddenly end up in some cave thing with a big bright monster. I think they just do it to show off, I can't think of any other reason for it being there. The big black robot thing I fought mid-game was the same, although at least that seemed more like a bonus stage of some sort.

I had a few games online and won most of my matches (I've never properly played Tekken although I like spamming Hwoarang. Speaking of which, they pronounce his name differently for some reason) although the lag was bad, even with green network icons. It wasn't as bad as playing SF with lag, though, and I did enjoy it, but most likely because I was winning more than losing! Hopefully their supposed patch will sort it out enough because the whole reason I was so excited about Tekken 6 was the thought of going online and finally learning to play the game but didn't buy it because of the online horror stories. Having said that, I think I'll still have enough fun offline in the meantime while I discover the characters. I'm just really pleased because a few months ago I'd decided I'm too old to learn a new fighter and would just play SF!

I'm going to stick with Alisa for now, I really like using her. Prior to this, my usual choices were Hwoarang, Law and Jin (who keeps changing his style!) but I'm branching out a bit.

      Or, rather, narrowing it down?

Let me know when you're on sometime and we'll have a match or two. You get better by playing people of higher ability than you anyway.

What does character customisation actually do? I've been playing scenario mode a little bit and unlocked a whole bunch of costume bits and they have all these magical powers. Do they apply in standard arcade/vs modes or just in scenario mode? I've just spent the best part of a half hour dressing Alisa up and being torn between style(making everything match) and practicality(super powers). If it turns out it's only for scenario mode then I won't have to worry! Reason I'm wondering is because one of the items increases item drop rate by 15% which sounds like a scenario mode thing to me...

Yeah, customisation, all the added things like elemental attacks and everything, etc. are only for Scenario mode. I always found that the better items tended to make my characters look stupid so I dumped most of them once I finished Scenario and got back to the proper game!

The new online patch today has made this essential. I was loving it before, but now online fights are lag free. You see the connection strength before you start and if it's low you don't have to go through with the fight.

I just played a good few matches in a row without problems

Yeah ditto those comments I had lag free matches even with 3 bar connections.

Fighter of the year for me.

my god this game is a disappointment

horrendously unbalanced, levels and their music disjointed, a customisation mode that makes it all too easy to make your character look stupid

namco really has dropped their game in this franchise. I remember some cracking levels in earlier games - now i have sheeps and pigs to contend with

Despite the patch released today that makes turns to online mode from a farce to something bearable, i still find every other game i'm facing yet ANOTHER hwoarang

I just won my first ranked match!

It was against this guy who just beat me previously, and I'd been on a five-game losing streak since I started (0W5L!). He was a Law player in what looks a bit like Kenshiro's FOTN outfit. I beat him and then it put us together again just now and the git quit mid-match when I was winning again. Unlike SF, it left the fight and he was just not doing anything so I battered away and then when I won it said he'd left. I still got an achievement for it (it was a proper ranking match, I'm now at 2nd dan thanks to Mr. Quitter), though, and it's counted as my win.

Something tells me quitters won't be nearly as annoying as they are in other games like SF!

This is the first online fighter I've played where I really have no idea what I'm doing - all the SF games are at least similar enough and so is KoF to an extent, but this is a complete unknown to me, only having dabbled in Tekken before (I had it on my PS2 but only for when people came round, I never really played it myself).

I'm not even getting that stressed out when I lose (except when I keep trying to roll out of it and get hit!)

Finally a game that doesn't punish the player when their opponent quits... it's about time!

Seriously! The only downside was once I knocked him down he stayed down. But I did one of those bounce moves to throw him in the air. Basically it's like a bit of a practice mode

I suppose if there were achievements for things like performing an unblockable in an online match, that'd be the best time to get them!

Some more top games last night with Skull Commander. We're so evenly matched its unbelievable!

Constantly back and forth and exactly the way the game should be played!

We did have a few lag issues now and again before the patch, but now, the online is pretty much perfect and makes this game ESSENTIAL.

For once, a patch has delivered on its promises. About 15-20 games online last night and not one bad match.

Add me for some 360 games! Gamertag is MrKirov

I'm pretty sure the lag was my wife doing online shopping!!

Also you flatter me. I think your the better player overall, and you had more wins under your belt. Very good matches though

I'll be getting this since the patch has seemed to sort out the online. It has been a long time since I've played Tekken regularly. See yers online.

Meh, I dont care about the wins, its the fun of playing!! I think we're pretty damned even anyway, you certainly seem to know how to play more characters than me!!

Yoshimitsu and his damned tenstring >.< Cant do anything once it starts!!!

Ill probably be up for a few more tonight if you're about
