I think the music in videogames in general has been rubbish for a number of years, regardless of its origin. I remember when CD-based consoles first appeared there was all that talk how wonderful the soundtracks would be but that didn't bear fruit. What we got instead is a mass of lazy, generic and completely forgettable movie-like and mainly-orchestral scores.

It's such a missed opportunity as the stuff produced during the 8 bit and 16 bit eras was, and remains, wonderful and brimming with character and distinction. I think it's because those working on the music back then were clever, creative coders who's musicality couldn't be restrained by hardware limitations, where as the impression I have of those working on videogame music today is they're 2-bit 'composers' not good enough to work elsewhere. But there we go. Rant over.

Well said, music today isn't that great generally. Like you say, too much orchestral stuff. MGS2 had a Jerry Bruckheimer style soundtrack.

I like the sound of Dark Void(?) having a score by the d00d who did Battlestar and having an 8bit style version of the main theme too...funny that the music should be the thing thats peaked my interest in it after hearing how ****e teh demo was...

I really like the orchestral bits, not so much the other bits. I think we all know people have differing tastes in music though.

As for Forza..I dont even hear the music half the time, I dont know why they bothered with a soundtrack.

I didnt realise Jerry Bruckhemier composed music?

Seriously though, MGS2 was virtualy an action movie, it had an action movie score, the kind of thing that goes with action sequences in films, that was the whole point, it helped it make it more exciting (and it had too becuase in all honestly the gameplay didnt help much, but thats another debate entierly).

If the Metal Gear games had the weird cheesy pop stuff from Bayonetta no one would take them seriously, well I wouldnt anyway.

The "cheesy" pop tracks fit well with the character and the orchestral sections really add atmosphere to the already beautiful looking graphics. To be honest I think the **** in US made games is the worst. For example, I play Forza 3 (Fantastic game) with all the music turned off. The engine sound on the other hand is bliss. Very nice to listen to while playing.

It is a matter of opinion so far as the quality of the music goes, some people probabaly like badly done cheesy pop music. But I dont belive the music was implemented into the game well, listening to what at least appeared to be the same two cheesy pop tracks over and over during the normal battles in the game was not only embaressing but extreamly repetative, and repetative is never a good thing. The Ochestral stuff for the Boss battles was great though, and of course the tunes from old games made me smile.

My major gripe with this is the quality of the camera one day they will learn that a crappy fixed point-esue view sucks.

That said the overall quality of the game is very high and a lot of depth to the combat. I think this is closer to PN03 than playing a Devil May Cry game.

I have already racked up a few gold and platinum's on my first runthrough but the difficulty curve seems to have been cranked up now. My only other gripe is that it relies on you playing and failing and then playing again for a long on the cut scene QTE sections. There is no way you could know they are about the happen without playing.

But then it is clearly going to be a game you play once then go through on the various difficulty, thankfully the environments and battles seem interesting enough to replay and the cutscenes and moves are so over the top that it is entertaining to watch.

I have no problems with the music really, it kind of suits the game it terms of being completely off the wall.

I'm up to chapter 12 now with mostly stone awards and a few bronse. I can get pure plat on a few fights but most chapters have a section I find virtually impossible and end up retrying & using items that bring the grade down.

I'm probably the least likely person to ever enjoy the genre on this forum, but I have to say that for the most part - despite my utter lack of skill - I have been enjoying this. I will confess that it has started to grate in recent chapters and I hope it ends soon, but it has been the only game in the genre since NG1 that I can play and enjoy. This is on Normal mode.

I've really enjoyed it for the most part, however certain fights seem to be impossible to manage for us regular folk, so the further in I get the harder it becomes to enjoy.

Can someone tell me how many chapters ther are?

16 plus the Epilogue... but don't put your controller down until the dancing starts... as things are always liable to occur

I finished it on Normal tonight as well... mostly with stone statues too, but plenty of decent medals. I just take too much damage in battles I guess, not one with the flow just yet heh... though I'm definitely better than when I started

I'm curious as to why a number of people thought the game dragged on and began grating towards the end? I thought it got better and better.

For those having problems you should do what I did. Play very easy, then easy then normal. By the time you play the game on your normal setting you'd have gained enough money to purchase decent weapons, found extras that will help and upgraded your skills. This is how I went about playing Bayonetta since after the Grace & Glory battle (on normal setting) I though this was going to be an up hill struggle which I wouldn’t enjoy. I'm now at 54 hours of game play and up to chapter 11 on the highest level setting yet still find the game fun. Believe me, it's worth playing on easy just to get your skills up. It's not cheating so don't feel bad

Just a quick question, what's the point of the alt weapons sold in the shop? Are they better version of the normal weapons?

If you buy the alts you can equip them to your hands & your feet

I second Yakumo's comment - though perhaps start on Easy, not Very Easy.

Consider it a practice sessions for the real game. It should also allow you to unlock various moves and so on.

Right now my only gripe is that I can't set cinemas to "off", since it's a pain in the ass pausing, waiting 5 seconds, then selecting to skip.

Also, some of the QTEs can be a little cheap with regards to their timing - pushing too early results in an automatic game over!

                              RT+Back instantly skips any cutscene.

I presume R2+Select is the equivalent for anyone on PS3.

I find it odd/funny that people mention the timing required for the very rare QTEs when the rest of the game requires timing like all the time.
