I'm not retracting what I said about the DS game...but!

This really is the best 2D Mario created.

Could write another 3 paragraphs, but, it would spoil things. Go buy a Wii if you don't got one and get this. NOW!

I’m now up to the World 8 – Castle and can totally understand where you’re coming from. I don’t think it’s quite the best 2D Mario game (I still think Super Mario Bros. 3 is better) but I do think I’ve enjoyed this even more than Super Mario World.

The sheer inventiveness of some of the stages (especially late in the game) is what impresses me the most. Seems like every level has a new mechanic to work with that it never gets dull and the game keeps you on your toes.

"Finished" this last night. The final battle against Bowser was awesome and I now I need to get the soundtrack for this game as the music on that section was so good.

Managed to get all star coins so all of world 9 is unlocked and cleared the first six of those stages so far. I believe 9-7 is a real toughie though

That level is the only one I have left to get coins from. It's a complete bugger of a stage.

haha you weren't kidding. Took just over an hour of sheer dedication but managed to get it cleared with all 3 star coins eventually.

The level is totally all about keeping your momentum. Do this and the design is pretty much perfect for you to triple jump through different parts without hitting anything. But if you mistime a jump or land even a small bit out of place you will struggle to regain momentum and even if you do get going again there's a good chance you'll have lost your power ups and not be able to get back up to Fire Mario in time for the second coin.

I actually got the rhythm of the entire section up to the second coin pretty early on but then the part with all the Piranha Plants that come from the hanging down pipes onwards was a real pain. Mistime that and it makes the final 2 koopas on the stage a real nightmare. Great cheer went up once I hit the flagpole though.

Then I watched the Super Skills video of the stage and realised how amateur my attempt was in comparison.

Fully cleared now (5 stars on save file). Always a sad moment when a Mario game is finished as you never want them to end but I take some solace in the fact that in all likelihood I'll be playing through Super Mario Galaxy 2 in less than a year's time which is likely to be even better.

Glad it's not just me, I've only had it a week and I'm just not really clicking with it, although I've never been a Mario fan in the past I was hoping this would change my mind, but the changing timings of certain items on some levels is driving me crazy. The sand columns in world 2 in particular almost made me put the controller through the TV. There are moments of pure joy, but it's tempered by huge amounts of frustration. All part of the fun/challenge? maybe, but I'm thinking Mario just isn't my thing.

Get 3 other players together for mega fun! This game is brilliant in multiplayer.

Finally started this on Saturday and I'm just cusping on World 5 now. It's got a few tricky moments and I've got to say, I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. It's certainly a big improvement on the DS title. I'd say it's a middling Mario, one of the better one's though no challenge for Mario 3 or the SNES titles.

Anyone still playing? I finally bought my own wii after relying on the wii's of girlfriends (which I bought games on grr) and friends. I couldn't resist that shiny 25th anniversary red cash in of theirs. I don't care, it's red and it looks awesome. The game came in a nasty cardboard sleeve like Wii Sports does but I'm fixing that by getting a red box off ebay and printing a cover.

Anyway, this game makes me think I didn't give the DS version a chance all those years ago. I really couldn't get on with the controls at all, it felt like controlling Mario from 64 in Mario World and that was too slow to get moving and far too much inertia. I'd also just bought the DS at the time and had so many other games I wanted to play.

I thought the same might happen with this and was wishing they'd bundled in Galaxy instead but I got used to the controls even if I'm still pretty crap at it. I'm only on world 3 but I'm having so much fun and never getting bored that I don't care. If I get sick of a level I can go and try and rescue sodding toad or bump into a hammer brother and rescue another toad. I love all the power ups and some of the level designs are great, it reminds me of Mario World a lot. I've had Luigi do some levels for me but they've all been ones I've done before but had to do again cos of dying and continuing, plus it's quite fun watching him do it, he taught me a few things like not getting blown by the wind if you crouch.

Haven't played multiplayer, it looks like it could be a big mess, like rescuing toad but with a life of his own!

This'll last me a while I think, I don't think I'll bother giving the DS one another go though it sounds like they improved a lot with this one.

I thought the DS version was better if anything, from what I remember of them at least.

ive read this game is very hard, how well do you think a 8 year old will get on with it?

The game is harder than NSMB on the DS, but far from "very hard". SMW and SMB3 were harder and only the extra levels pose a serious threat to your patience.

Another Wii 2D revival I'm late to the party with. Partly because I thought NSMB on the DS was merely 'good', and partly because I thought it looked too multi-player focussed. But having some store credit with Gamestation sat burning a hole I thought I'd take the plunge Only a couple of worlds in and it's magic already. Super Mario World is one of my fave games ever and this feels like a natural follow-up. It's brilliant. Along with DKC Returns and Mario Galaxy 2 I'm really loving the Wii right now.
