I hope God mode isn't that hard.
    It is.

    Harder in fact.

Compare it to something like Bayonetta, which runs like absolute crap, and you have to question why we need all that OTT lighting and effects. This gen could have meant gameplay perfection. If we were to get remakes of several other PS2 classics we would pretty much have it! Maybe the priorities of the developers are in the wrong place.
Bayonetta only runs like crap on the PS3 dosent it?

I havent played the full game, but judging by the demos of both versions the 360 version ran a heck of alot better than the PS3 one.

Also, those who are slightly disapointed with the first game, again, you really need to play the second, its a much more impressive experience.

I started my second play through - it's highlighted a pretty glaring continuity error. Right at the start Athena asks Kratos to go and kill Ares, and he asks if by doing so his nightmares will end. No trace of any kind of revenge mission. I guess they changed their minds on the plot half way through.

You could say that about GoW2. I wished I skipped GoW1 before trying 2 out.

I started with GoW1 and got bored with it, then I remembered I even didn't like the game that much in 2004. Traded it in for DMC3 after running through it. GoW2 I've never played before (by that time I wasn't into Ps2 gaming anymore), and it really impresses me so far.

I decided to play it after I had tried Dante's Inferno, and GoW2 also seems to own that game. Even in graphical department as I think DI's animations kind of suck.

Is the above sentiment r.e. skipping the first installment echoed by others?

I've taken delivery of this today and - as someone who has never played either game - I was planning on going through them in order. Is it worth skipping out on one to maximise my enjoyment of two?

Not by me...I don't think the 2nd is really worth playing, its rubbish compared to the beauty and love that went into the 1st..

Done the speed run for the platinum trophy, now started on God mode.

I can tell I'm going to need the patience of a saint for this one. I actually died on the very first section (on the deck of the boat with a bunch of grunts to practice on).

Having flashbacks to Dante must Die and KZ2 Elite mode... argh why do I put myself through these things...

I've always felt the second is the better game, but I prefer the first from a character and storyline point of view. Both are amazing as far as I'm concerned, my favourite third person action games of all time.

Your posts about punishing yourself through the highest difficulties always make me smile. Gaming Masochistic Tendencies - deserves a thread

I loved the first one, but have still to be won over by the second, so I would advise against skipping it. The first is a masterpiece in my opinion.

The first game annoys me. The parts with the conveyor belt, or the challenges in Pandora... they weren't fun in my book. The 2nd however, is just about exploring, finding secrets and obliterating enemies. The fighting engine is much improved too.

I also think the leveldesign of the 2nd is great, I especially liked the snowy mountain. That had to push the Ps2 through the roof. Even some puzzles did catch me off guard a bit (like the dead body and the water current).

No arguments here, as I said I think the second is the better game. But as of yet I don't think Kratos has ever been as awesome as he is in the first game.

Perhaps I'll change my mind on the next time through. The impact of the first might have dwindled for me now.

Worst part of GOd mode so far - that first rope traversal in Athens. I swear it's completely impossible to get through it without taking damage, you have soldiers closing in on both sides and you can't take out one side without the other getting close enough to strike you at least a couple of times.

The only tactic I found that worked was mashing the heavy strike as they approach, once that starts connecting they are pulled closer, close enough to grab with the circle button to finish them off - that will usually drop some health. The problem is that before I was out of the recovery animation the soldiers behind would usually have hit me. I could only do it by going half way across the rope, then backtracking to an unopened health chest and continuing after topping up my health.

As this is only the first of several rope sections I am really dreading the harder ones.

OK, so I've pressed on up to Pandora's Temple, and my love is growing.

It's pretty much what I hoped for - God mode is forcing me to dig deeper into the game and it's all the better for it. I have had to consider which enemies to take out first, whether to kill them normally for red orbs or go for the special kills to get health/magic etc. I'm also having to make more use of the different magic, as I found those underground blade spinny things very tough to beat without using medusa's gaze. Have to watch them and block carefully too.
