Thought I would take a stab at getting the melee weapon pin for 4 kills, so sneaked into the base just after a bunch of enemies have run in to turn off the charge and as I'm not firing I guess they thought I was on their side...then the knifing began. Notched up 13 kills in a round, people seem to get caught between deciding whether they should be shooting me or remembering what button does the melee - a little window for my blade to slide through and into their skull. Its great fun. Love it when you catch an enemy reloading too...chopping dat meat!

There's much to like about this. The level design is inspired and probably the most interesting I've played in a wartime FPS, looking and feeling like locations you might encounter in the real world. Pity they're so linear (I hate that you can't walk more than a few yards outside the map bounderies without being warned) but I guess that's the price you pay when they look so gorgeous.

But even better than the graphics are the sound effects. I've always thought sound, too often, is the least developed area of a game but here it's sublime. Whether it's the ambient noises, bulletfire or empty shells hitting the floor, it all sounds excellent. Firing the turret of the Abrams tank, in particular, especially with your console hooked up to a decent 5.1 system, is an extremely satisfying and visceral experience and one which really communicates the sense of great energy being unleashed. It's simply superb.

I do sypathise with the earlier poster who finds the game sluggish though as, besides Half Life and Unreal, I've not played a 360 FPS I haven't thought sluggish. It used to really annoy me but over the years I've come to expect sluggishness so, personally, it's not such an issue any more.

Ive just got the dreaded stat and weapons unlocked bug, (where all my stats and weapons are reset to the start ) why are EA servers still so crap? , remember this on burnout years ago, you'd think they'd hire a few IT network guys to make sure this was sorted out.

I had a Battlefield Moment today. I was an Assault class and a UH-60 came in low and straight towards me on Isla Inocentes while we were defending the second base, so I changed to my grenade launcher and the chopper was damaged enough that my shot took it down, then one of the enemies parachuted out and landed in front of me, so I changed to my bullets and took them out before running to safety as the chopper came crashing down on a building and destroyed it in the process. It was awesome.

Im sorry guys I just cant get into this at all and I honestly dont see this as even fit to polish MW2's shoes... bugs & glitches aside the core game so un-precise to me it's an lesson in frustration.

I am thinking perhaps it's because I am playing from Australia and it seems we have no local dedicated servers but even when I get into the odd "decent" server it still runs like a dog. There just seems to be a lack of fluidity to the game, almost like its running lower than 30fps or something. It's hard to explain but yes it is really bloody sluggish.

Apart from that I am finding some of the levels just plain ugly. Everyone seems to be appreciating the graphics but up close it just looks like a muddy mess of low-res textures. Some fair better than others, the harbour levels seem quite crisp in comparison but then I played on that night snow level last night and that looks rough.

As for server issues... This game has now booted me back to the dashboard a total of 7 times. Its done it 3 times in an hour last night. I realise I seem to be the minority here and perhaps I am getting a raw deal playing online (how can you actually tell?) but for me this game merely "ok" bordering on sub-standard. If it is just "server issues" then I would urge EA to stop being tight asses and sort it out once and for all, give every territory you're selling this game in the same experience. If it isnt just that alone then I dont think the battlefield series is for me... I'll wait for Halo: Reach instead.

Wow that sucks dude, it must have something to do with you being down under as I havent experienced any of that.

Had a Battlefield moment last night. Joined a random game on Valpariso (spelling?) as an attacker and it was one of those games where no one was pushing to attack and half the team were snipers. I decided to go Engineer with the Uzi and machine pistol, on the first base I took B by myself without any resistance which I thought was odd but that was because they were ALL at A. I managed to sneak into A (oh and at this point we only had 2 tickets left) and arm the charge just before the walls around me were blown to ****.
I ended up taking down 6 guys with the Uzi and as I took down the 6th I ran out of ammo and, sods law, another guy ran to A so quickly switching to to the machine pistol I took out another 3 guys before the charge blew up. The whole time praying that no one on our team died and used up the last two tickets! One of the most tense moments i've experienced Let out an unheard shout of "**** YOU!" to all the snipers who had killed me earlier hehe

Took the next A&B myself again but then we lost on the third base, god I love this game.

I find this interesting considering the bugs/glitches and continues hacks in MW2. That said it probably is a case the server support isn't great out there and I can understand that lag would ruin it pretty much. I have got very frustrated with the odd laggy match I have been in.

currently at level 15 and just unlocked the ceramic body armour , cant wait to unlock the upgrade for stronger explosives at level 23, that extra punch should take out buildings no problem, but I think its for engineers and recon's only.

                    .
i noticed the shoddy textures on the snow map too. that was in my very first game too, so i gave a little 'ruh roh', but most levels are lovely looking.

sorry to have to compare the 2 games, but i swapped back to MW2 last night to see how it fared. apart from pressing R stick all the time to crouch, i came to the conclusion that BC2 is a more realistic shooter - feels heavier (its been said sluggish on here) esp with the guns and their sound effects etc. mw2 feels alot faster and 'arcadey'. mw2 feels smoother running too.

the beauty of bc2 is in the team work , rather than the gung-ho-ness of mw2.

That will be the CoD series' 60 fps. It's very noticeable when you go from a CoD game to something else, but I'll take the knock in fps for a more satisfying online experience.

Anybody know if the empty weapon slot on Assault class gets populated once you reach a certain level? I've got all the guns available but just wondered if there was any more or should I move onto a different class now?

I really like the multiplayer when I get in a non laggy game the trouble is 2 out of every three games I join are just shockingly bad with people disappearing and reappearing all over the map and vehicles just getting stuck and then jumping forward.
I have checked and re checked my connection and its fine and I get no issues playing any other xbox live game it is very strange.
For info I am based in the UK

The guns you can get are greyed out until you've met the EXP requirements. The blank weapon slots are never filled.

The only weapon that's not obtainable (within the game) is the M1 Gerand (which can be used with all classes) as you'll have to link up your previous Battlefield games onto your veteran status via EA's site.

If the slots are completely empty, i.e. there is no picture of a greyed out weapon in the slot, then you've got everything that's currently available. I believe these slots will be populated with items in future DLC, as well as the empty Pins and Insignia slots. If you go to the in-game store you will see there are a bunch of packs coming soon and some details are out there about the first one of these.

In a listing in the online store for Bad Company 2, it appears that the downloadable content coming this week - 18th March - will bring 4 new achievements with it.

The 4 new achievements will come with the "SPECACT Bundle" which features 4 new uniforms and 4 new camouflaged weapons that are also part of the US Dr Pepper promotion.

                              The listing states:

"With the 4 kit specific unique uniforms and the camouflaged SPECACT personal M16A2, UMP-45, MG3 and M95 SNIPER you have a visual edge on the Battlefield, showing you're a force to be reckoned with. The pack also includes 12 new awards and 4 Achievements."

That's one achievement per class by the looks of it.

No price yet for the content, but according to the store, expect them to drop on March 18th.

It looks like they're finally fixing the Veterans site:

                              We're updating the Veteran's program.

The Veteran's website will be unavailable during the update.

Step 1: Link your Xbox Gamertags, PSN IDs and old master accounts to your main EA account that you will use for the Veteran Program.

Step 2: When the Veteran's site update is complete, login to the Veteran's site with your EA account to auto-check for your games. If a game isn't found, you may be able to manually enter the details to add it.

Veteran Rank: You will receive Veteran rewards in select Battlefield games if you have a Veteran rank of 1 or higher. You need two full Battlefield games to be rank 1.

It hasn't worked properly since 1943 was released.
