Deadly Premonition / Red Seeds Profile (previously "Rainy Woods")

It's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster......

So, it's an adventure game, played over the shoulder like RE4.
It starts off in wtf mode (think twin peak's red room) and fairly quicky moves into full survival horror mode. Then all of a sudden, it's comedy time. And then back to the red room for some fear top-up.

The main characters in the town are awesome, each having their own theme tune and I'm sitting here grinning my face off at almost every encounter. It's just so funny, although if you didn't like twin peaks, you probably won't "get" this either - it's fairly wacky.

Where things like Silent Hill are relentless in their horror and bleakness, this switches around and is all the more enjoyable and atmospheric for it.

An example of something that made me laugh: He meets a hot chick deputy sherriff and starts chatting to his dual personality - right in front of her, clearly within earshot - about how he shouldn't go into too much detail about his obsession with female murder cases because she might think he's weird.

An example of something that made me scared: the noises, the music, the creatures in the woods.

I've been playing for an hour and have barely scratched the surface. I've smoked a lot of cigarettes, and drunk a lot of coffee though. And stared into the coffee to get predictions for the day. And stood around outside someone's window for a bit looking in.... heheh.

Combat and driving are ok, visuals are variable, music is nicely done with the contexts.

    Very cool.

This is very not region free. I have a US machine playing the US version. It does not work on PAL or J machines (we have tested both at ntsc-uk).

Great first impressions mate - I am dying to play this and am gutted it's not playable on a PAL or NTSC-J machine Am strongly considering breaking open the piggy bank to grab the J-version (Red Seeds Profile) despite the price tag doubling...

The Asian (HK) version of the PS3 one apparently has English language options.

The general impressions around for this game is that it's shockingly bad but it's so awful that it's actually fun

So far 1/3 of it has been survival horror and the rest has been sitting around having breakfast, chatting to mincing sherrif's assistant, chatting to myself, smoking, collecting trading cards and driving around a bit.

It's paranormal rather than "infection" (much like twin peaks).

I haven't played any more since my first post because I've been away all weekend, but my thoughts kept coming back to it. I'm gagging to play some more.

xbox one is likely dirt cheap because they thought it was a bit of a turkey and had the rights anyway. PS3 one is being released for a different region and is multi lingual. They probably can't knock the price down otherwise it'd upset the Japanese publishers.

My first puzzle and it was too easy. As in, I couldn't get it because it was too easy Had to google and do a facepalm.

I think the Deputy has the hots for me. lol.

I'll keep spamming this thread with my thoughts.

Got to see Laura Palmer Anna, the dead girl, in the morgue. Lots of cutscenes, but captivating enough to want to sit through them. Nice plot development stuff.

The main guy Frank has a torch you can turn on and off. Hilariously, it must be built into his chest (no effort at animating a torch) Every time it gets a bit scary, I just play with the torch button - makes me laugh every time.

I think perhaps I'm meant to be Zach, Frank's alter ego. Not 100% sure though.

Is the title of the multilingual version called Red Seeds Profile? No way i'm paying ?52 for the JPN version, anyone have an idea when the HK version is getting a release?
