Great impressions Charles/Pharfetchd, I'm waiting for a fully english version to appear sometime whether it be PS3/360 (which isn't region locked) I know exactly what to expect from this and I'm pretty certain I'd love it, the fact it's been getting a lot of praise on various forums means it's certainly a bit of a cult hit. Apparently on the Ignition forums they said they wanted to release the PS3 version at the same time as the 360 one but couldn't for reasons they couldn't say so goodness only knows what they are. They are looking into it though so hopefully soon.

No worries, I think there probably will be a full English PS3 release sooner or later, i'm just too impatient to wait though, the Asian version is around 92% English i'd say, as I can follow the plot and side stories, know what missions I need to do and at what time, the option menu is english as well.
The Japanese text is mainly things like item descriptions which aren't much of an issue as you can see what they are. The other bit is extra dialogue text if you ask an NPC something after the initial audio conversation, I'd imagine most of that is just unimportant jibberish like you find in most RPG's when you keep talking to them. Theres a few other bits in regards to selecting choices etc but you soon remember whats what after a bit of trial and error. Nothings stopped me progressing in game anyway like is usually the case with imports.
Yeah I remember reading that statement from ignition regarding the PS3 version, only thing I can think of is it may not have been possible to release it at the $20 pricepoint that the 360 version was due to Blu ray costs or possibly licensing costs being slightly more, not much of an issue now though thanks to the cult status it seems to be gaining, i'm sure PS3 owners wouldn't mind paying a bit more.Last edited by Phar; 19-03-2010, 01:09.

Could well be to do with price but I think that's part of the reason it became a cult hit as it's a budget game that turned out pretty decent/unique. I think if they bumped the price up too much it would put people off especially with so many good games around at the minutes. Wouldn't put me off but hopefully it stays at $20

That price is about right for this.
The weird thing is that I'm sure they could have polished this up, both in terms of gameplay tweaks (more variety of enemies and a better driving model and more stuff going on), and graphics (which are sometimes quite poor) and had a hit on their hands.
Money though. You can't keep developing if you don't have any.

I think most of their budget went on reworking everything enough as not to get sued by David Lynch.

Put quite a few more hours into this and my impressions at present are: extremely archaic from it's textures, animation, parts of the gameplay, the pause screen map is annoying as hell as it keeps rotating instead of keeping north, making it harder to know your location, the cars handle like sh*t, but theres just something about it that makes me want to keep playing more, it's one of the best PS2 games I've played
Done a load of side stories, unlocked a couple of weapons
infinite ammo submachine gun, infinite flame thrower
it's a good job I got those as well, as I could have seen me struggling later in the game as there is a certain enemy that could be a right bastard otherwise. Also had a couple of side quests to
upgrade the speed, boost and petrol tank of your car which makes a huge difference to how fast you can drive around town.
. Played a few rounds of Darts at the Swery65 bar and unlocked an
ammo belt
.
Just upto the end of Episode 3 at the moment and the story can only be described as insane, confusing and perverse, I absolutely love it.

Well just completed it, from Episode 4 onwards it gets batsh*t insane......well more so than what it is to begin with. The ending definitely leaves you with more questions than answers, some down to how you interpret what happened, the other due to plot holes, if this part had been padded out a little more then the story could have been something really special, not sure if this was down to possible cuts thanks to it's long development period and partly being reworked, a poor english translation or just poor writing in places, it's still pretty decent in an outhere sort of way though, it kept me interested enough in wanting to know what was happening anyway.
It's got to be one of my favourite games over the last 12mths though, probably down to nothing more than it's quirkiness and being like nothing else I've played despite it borrowing elements from other genres, certainly glad I imported it. Think I'll get started on replaying the chapters where I didn't complete all the side missions and also hoover up all the remaining trading cards I missed.
