k0pp0, really hope you enjoy or find it interesting, truly interested in your opinions - negative, positive, middling, whatever. Love to hear you love it, slag it, whatever.

I'm just about dusting off the last bit of DLC of Fallout 3 (an incredibly good game) and Deadly Premonition is *still* my GOTY, despite how Fallout 3 ****s all over it in many areas. The appeal is...unclassifiable.

Bloody hell - I forgot I'm about 4 hours into Fallout 3 as well. And a shat load of other games.. AND trying to nail the last cheeve on stoked (about a year after starting it).

Oh. I have a slight second child on the way scenario that might put a big break on everything!

I finished this last week. Overall it is a good game, the sum of its parts being a great deal less than the whole. The worst thing about it was simply the amount of driving and the slow speed of the vehicles. Generally the game was far too long, most games these days can do the job in 6 hours, and aren't as excruciatingly tedious to play.

Buy a better car. Cuts the tedium in half.

Not just the above, but George has a quite excellent
which suddenly makes driving about not really part of the equation.

Despite part of me sharing monomaniacpat's revulsion at the driving (and it could definitely be a gamebreaker to some), there also existed this simultaneous love of how expansive it made the gameworld seem, just like how getting from A to B in a car *really* is, it's channeling something from the Shenmue realm, work-as-gaming. Even after having George's aforementioned trinket, I still used to drive around to places in York's car because I liked the way I developed a familiarity with the landscape of the game. I think it was quite a brave/stupid decision to go the way they did as it could/did alienate many gamers, but I liked it.

Argh... You could buy a better car?

I didn't do any side missions, which probably explains why I didn't know. There was one point where I picked up a slightly faster 4x4 late on, but it disappeared after the next cutscene.

I was horrified to read JazzFunk had played for 89 hours! 15 was more than enough for me.

There's also a special item (very easy to get) which allows fast travel to any previously visited place, instantly.

So many people miss this, that it obviously means they weren't laying the side missions.

It's a catch 22. If they'd made travel faster I bet a lot more would have played the side missions. I probably would. I just couldn't take any more trudging.

The thing about Shenmue was that work was actually strangely enjoyable, usually in the form of a mini-game. Driving was a ball-ache from start to finish. Notwithstanding the point about the map, if it had been faster by default it would have been fine – it felt so immensely underpowered compared to even the slowest vehicle in GTA.

It's actually the first or second mission you can do. SPOILER:

It's the finding the flower for George's mother mission.

I started this today. It's probably the funniest game I've ever played Agent York is such a douche, I almost want to see him die

I finally finished this yesterday on Hard. Now i'm going back to find all the cards and complete all the side quests. Fantastic cast of characters, really can't wait to see what SWERY does next.

Fan should check out Spy Fiction on PS2. it's quite a decent stealth game with a couple of recurring characters from DP. I've only put about 30 mins in, but one of these days I'm going to give it a proper go. Cost about ?4 off ebay.

When you complete the game are all the side quests open or do you have to do them at the correct time in the correct chapter?

I've picked this back up as I never finished it when it came out and I am fully in love with it.

You can select any chapter you have already done. But you can't save until you have finished that chapter. Everything in your inventory carries over to the previous chapters too, in fact you can buy things from later chapters to use in the earlier ones.
