You only can do the tutorials at the arena to start, there's a different person you need to speak to.
I think you have to accept the first missions before you can do the tutorials. You can't do any arena battles just yet.

I'm a bit further on now, (spent a bit of time just levelling up killing actual enemies) and once you get to grips with the system, it's really awesome!

I can't see the battle system getting boring (especially with the grinding probably required for a Tri-Ace game).

The story hasn't really unfolded any yet, but I'm sure it'll get going soon enough.

Started playing this yesterday and it doesnt leave the greatest of first impressions.

It throws you stright into the game and dosent tell you where to go for the battle tutorial. It tells you that you need to open up the world map by placing a Hex down but it doesnt tell you that you need to win a fight to get hex's. All this basicaly led to me bashing buttons on the world map for 5 minutes wondering what i was doing wrong and then a random battle started and i had no idea how to play the game!. I died a couple of times and swore alot and threw my controler across the room, it then came up on the screen that I should go to the arena for a battle tutorial...

Ive learnt how to play it now after about 2 hours so I guess i will decide what the games like when i actualy start playing the thing properly .

Found the trainer thanks to Elaniel's direction so I'm now 'fully trained' though I did know half of it by watching a battle tutorial on gametrailers.

How do I get coloured hexes? I'm still in the prologue and so I need a few coloured hexes to get to an area for

        the maid's quest

Just keep going in the game, you get some given to you.

You don't actually finish a chapter until you choose that you want to. So as long as all the missions are done by the time you click "YES" to finish the chapter, you're fine.

I was going into Equip when I should have gone into Customize.

Played it for roughly 20 hours now. It comes into its own after a while and I think you may enjoy it more if you dont come off the back of another RPG like FFXIII as I have. It has its own style, is exciting to play and the 3 main characters actually feel like a group that know each other and get along as opposed to the one in FFXIII. Don't get me wrong, the characters in FFXIII could work together but they never seem to feel like a tight unit as the game goes along (when characters are paired off is when it's alright though).

So, don't be afriad that this is different as it's good in it's own right. Just make sure to balance out the hero running and getting your basels back when shooting enemies. It's good fun when you set all your characters off and you comboing the hell out of enemies. Flashy stuff.

It's awesome. Really hard to get the jist of wtf is going on at first though. Even like 3 hours in there was a couple things I didn't get, everything's fallen into place now though and I'm loving it. Can be genuinely tough/frustrating in places but the combat is really really fun. Upgrading the guns looks like it's going to be good too, not too many options atm but apparently i'm due a new city with better upgrades... 8 hours in, think i'm gonna polish this off before i go back to FFXIII.

I'd love to give this a look, but the comedy storyline has pretty much killed all chance of that. Simply not happening. Shame, really.

I actually kinda like it. I've had a laugh at some of the stuff vashyron says a few times. I certainly wouldn't let it put me off considering that's just a wrapper for the main game, the battles.

Never been like that with RPGs. Story is just as important to me as the mechanics. Which is one reason I can't stand most Final Fantasy titles let alone why I wouldn't go near this. (Relatively) serious art design plus nudge-nudge wink-wink humour and pratfalls etc., etc. is an utter no-no for me.

I think it's a nice departure from all the RPGs that cover cliched storylines like love and friendship can triumpth over anything and so on. It has more of a buddies with guns feel to it and the main characters diss and smack each other like good buddies do.

As said before, I get a greater feeling of friendship from these characters than I ever did from the ones in FFXIII although both games having forgetable villians seems to be a common link between the two. They're very different games and are good in their own ways, I don't doubt that.

I think that RoF makes you work a bit harder from the off to get your levels up and win your encounters. Once you work the system and its advantages out it really comes into its own though (and no waiting 15 hours to be given full control).
