Another day and more post from me
Spent about an hour last night playing the Challenge Mode man i suck at combos just can't get the timing down on them and timing is everything in this game. Also played afew online game god damn i could not land may hits i was well zoned and kepted in the coner or the player would just beat me down so fast i felt like just punching the TV in was not fun playing online at the eary point of learning the game so my thought is just to stick to offline play for the time. To end super great game there is alot to do in here and i am trying to learn Hazama and Arakune that is where the challenge is so good

Well later i may post more tonight when i've played some more or when i get my ass kicked in online

ok so back to youtube to watch move sets and combos

        Bye

Story mode is very easy at standard settings and has an handful of battles for every character, even arcade or legion mode at lowest settings are better to get the basics of the game.

Best thing to do is a player match in a beginner room, either join one or create it yourself. If you keep playing offline you'll get too used on how the computer behaves and repeat the same pattern online, which will be easily destroyed by most human players. It can get the job done for the first few levels, but after that you'll have to re-adapt on how players act.
There are few characters that the computer handle in a completely different way than humans do (Tager, Noel, Jin, Lambda) that won't really prepare you on fighting them online.

dont worry to much about challenge mode, the AI techs out as soon as humanly possible so you have to be very fast, if you can do the combos in training mode tho chances are itll work on a human player.

Hey briareos i was doing terrible last night, i dont seem to have an answer to getting rushed down and i let myself in for it as im inclined to go defensive, have to work on that

Yeah, why not? I'll be online from around 20pm (UK time), don't know if I'll be able to play all evening long (will have to find someone to walk the dog for me) but for a couple of hours I'll be fine.
Someone wrote few impressions on BB portable in the Calamity Trigger thread IIRC.

Happens to me too, nights where you can't seem to get anything done right and you lose for very stupid errors.
The answer to rush downs is to block...at least, it was for me. I noticed that whenever someone come close I would start hammering that A button for quick jabs or do a perfect guard. Instead, I started to first guard normally, then switch to a perfect guard if the combo goes on.
The Barrier Burst does not reduce defenses, so it's no more a desperation move...in fact, I've seen few players using it to start air combos or break the initial flow of the match.
Also, there's a damage malus for long combos.
For example: you get caught into a 50+ hit combo. When the remaining health bar hits 50% and the red part hasn't caught up with the "real" health bar yet, the opponent can continue to juggle you but he won't allocate damage.
He needs to break the combo, let the red part disappear and then resume, which lets you defend, run away, start you own combo, ragequit, whatever :P.

I got mine and have just finished installing the data, will get the VSHG out of the cupboard and go through some of the training stuff to reacquaint myself, but I wanna jump into the online ASAP. So If anyone sees me online send me a message!

Which reminds me I'd better turn notifications back on

Damn I can't remember anything! I guess my muscle memory is just as short as my real memory, cos none of the combos I used to be able to do were working. Then again I couldn't even remember how to do the distortion drives :/

Had to continue a few times on unlimited Hazama on the default setting - very frustrating. I hate to think what he will be like in Score Attack/Hell mode based on that.

Some Distortion Drives have been remapped, some have completely new gestures, other just different attack buttons to press.

**** this game actually its nothing but a rush down, that actually penalizes you for blocking

Heheh, still letting it get to you this time around?

I felt a little bit of the same frustration actually - I made a beginners room for 3 players, the two that joined were level 30 something and gave me no room to breath. In a moment of short temper I kicked them both out lol

The replacements were level 2 and level 4, and I had many great games after that. There were quite a few beatings but nobody quit or left - then after watching one of them get totally hammered by the other as Mu the game froze up saying the opponents connection had been lost.

I wonder if it was a ragequit... the number of matches beforehand would say no but Mu seems like the sort of character to bring that out in people.

No prob hush, I tried to beat score attack once again while waiting...in this iteration unlimited Hakumen is absolutely brutal.

She's essentially what Nu and Arakune were in CT. D spam from Nu to place the Stein Gunners and then laaaaaazers instead of beeees when the screen is full, forcing the opposing player to play defensively or be extra good at dodging. She also got some nasty standard moves (2C when jumping comes to mind), counterbalanced (somewhat) by strict timing and high recovery rates, but it can get pretty annoying when opponents jump around and place remote laser turrets all over the stage.

What annoyed me was whenever I eventually closed the distance and went for the grab she would do that diamond shield thing and I'd be back at square one.
