Sonics run starts way too slow, I remember it being different. That with the jumping makes the gameplay crap (hard to get 'down'). I played every damn classic Sonic out there, S3+K and CD being my favourites. This one feels off like CD kind of did at the time but worse. You could build momentum and get into a flow in the classics. Not feeling that here. Could do without homing too.

If this were Sonic 4, I wouldn't mind optional Tails co-op and a Knux game. Original stages instead of S2 rehashes as well. Something beyond Mushroom hill, Lava Reef... Just a logical step up from 3.

But i'm still going to buy it.

I just played the demo. I knew as soon as I heard the title screen music I wouldn't like it. Insta-delete.
      Kept you waiting, huh?

I thought the same thing. Although the actual levels look quite nice, the gameplay just does not feel fluid enough for me and I don't like Sonic's animation. Average.

I think it feels and plays the same as the originals except for the lock on. I enjoyed the demo. Don't like the first Zone's music though it repeats too quickly.

It feels really sticky in its control. I tried out Sonic 2 and Sonic and Knuckles just to see if it was my age but no, the control of Sonic in the new one is somewhat heavy. I like the floaty instant reaction feel of the originals.

              Oh dear, what was that?

I haven't really been reading much about this but I was shocked to see it was all actually prerendered, which is fine if done right but they haven't got the look right . It's more ugly than faithful. It often looks like sonic is a poorly compressed animated gif.

Sonic is really slow to get moving and walks like he has got leg braces on.Also his centre of rotation when he jumps is all weird.

I don't mind the homing attack though, makes it easy to get back on track if you miss a spring.

              No buy for me

I thought the homing attack was a bit **** tbh, good for dashing about but a bit unneeded, it works well in 3D sonic's where you have a certain level of inaccuracy, but in this I found myself getting hit if I timed it wrong as it leaves him vunerable.

Wouldn't be bad if you could just avoid using it but later stages rely on it, because of the physics I found myself loosing momentum sometimes just as you need to hit a row of enemies, died many a time falling into bottomless pits on Mad Gear Zone because of that.

Also makes most of the bosses incredibly easy as well. The first act thats in the demo for me was the best part, I found it really went to **** after that point, especially the Casino Zone.

It sounds alot like they have reused zones in this sequel, I'm just a bit sad that this has got the "4"

What a huge pile of SHHH, I cannot believe anyone could possibly mess up a game so badly? Unless this was made by a primary school I have no idea why this was placed on planet earth.

I gave it 1 as there is no minus 10

I think its absolutly brilliant. It puts a huge smile on my face. I don't have a problem with the graphics either, i quite like Sonic's look in this, the only problems i do have is that the score and backgrounds could have done with a bit more polish.

Hm, yeah, it's pretty "meh" isn't it?

Sonic starting slow then building up speed is a bad idea. The whole game is supposed to be about speed. They also seem to have "zoomed in" the view somewhat compared to the old games, so you can't see much of the level around you.

There are lots of little touches which destroy the feeling of speed. Everything is kind of "drifty" and smooth. And sorry, but Sonic's running animation is dire, it's so amateur-looking. The visuals also don't read as clearly as the original MD game, which I think is the result of them pushing the contrast and vibrancy to extremes.

I don't understand why they can't just research the original games and match the feel. I'll pass.

Downloaded this today (Xbox 360) and played up till the first act of zone 4 (mad gear/egg whatever). Really enjoying it. I like the way the first act looks just like classic Sonic (but far too shiny, could actually do with a loser resolution!) and you can just hold right and they gradually add more and more platforming to it. The homing attack I feel adds to the game. I liked the torch stuff in Lost Labyrinth. However, there was one bit in Lost Labyrinth Act 3 which i just didn't understand (its obviously designed for motion controlled consoles) and was intensely frustrating. As was the Lost Labyrinth boss, especially as you have to redo some level each time.

Oh, and in response to Lyris, and probably others, I like the slow start. I also like how this game is nowhere near as fast as any of the post-MegaDrive Sonic games. Its actually a decent speed. Although, the twirly legs animation is indeed terrible. As is the limbs out jump. And the overall shininess, particularly on Sonic himself.
