Went to find a sensor module and killed a bunch of guys and then got a 'Mission Failed' notice pop up - a mission I hadn't had yet. Am I right in thinking there's no point in worrying about this? That it was probably a mission from people who hate me and it would only have mattered if my allegiances were different?

Seems wrong that I lose karma from 'stealing' from gangs who hate me and tried to kill me (and others) over and over again.

Really enjoying this though. It's very much more Fallout 3 but I love the desert environment and the dusty feel.

You probably killed a named NPC who was a quest giver.

Quite often it happens if you're sent on a mission to a rival faction or go to a camp where you're hated.

Karma does very little in this game and stealing has a very tiny effect on it.

Yeah, it can happen depending who you're allied/enemies with. You'll pretty much have to step on someone's toes in New Vegas, it's not possible to be buddies with every faction in the game. That's what I like about NV, you feel like you're making choices in the wasteland, sometimes morally tricky ones.

That is indeed really stupid. You can get karma from killing the bad guys, but lose it for taking their stuff from lockers.

Personally I find New Vegas a lot better RPG than what Fallout 3 was, there's a lot more factions to ally yourself with, more actual towns with people to talk to and overall the environment, setting and characters are more interesting. Music's better too, just could have a few more songs for variety.

Thanks guys. Yeah, the music is excellent. Doesn't seem to have many songs, especially for a game of its size, but the score is excellent. Really atmospheric.

Was I supposed to be seeing anything when the

Ghouls blasted off in their rockets?

I got music and a bit of a camera shake and that was it.

Were you looking out of the very large, very obvious window?

                Yes, I was.

Isn't there several ways that can end up depending on what you do? though I think all of them you get to see the rockets. Probably another one of these endless bugs :P

Well, if you were looking at the big dome in the distance from the balcony thing, you were supposed to see the rockets take off to the sky, that's about it. You did help the Ghouls and not sabotage the rockets? I don't know what was supposed to happen if you sabotage the ships.

Yeah, I helped them. All I saw was

a big dome in front, an old rocket model on the ground by a big square panel and a good bit of sky. I loaded it up a couple of times to see if anything would change but, no. I got the sound of rockets as if they were taking off but couldn't see them anywhere.

                      Poxy bugs!

Yeah, sounds like a bug, the dome was supposed to open and the three rockets inside fly off.

Oh, that looks really cool. I didn't get that at all. Shame - it looks great and is a cool payoff for the mission. Thanks for digging it up. I haven't had any real nasty bugs so far but, still, this sort of sums up some of my New Vegas experience: http://twitpic.com/51legd .

I've been playing a lot of Fallout NV and have been totally sucked in. I'm loving most of the landscape - there seems to be much more variety here in terms of places to find and each area has its own feel. Especially love the red canyons and areas around the water.

But one thing that bothered me about Fallout 3 was that nobody ever cleaned up. They'd happily live in a burnt out house with corpses next to their beds. In this one, that makes even less sense because they're mostly living in really nice locations with mostly good buildings. You could make some really nice towns here but they're all living in filth. And yet Abraxo cleaner is everywhere. Use it!

Was a bit disappointed with New Vegas itself though. Wasn't sure what to expect - a shining wonderful Vegas or a war zone. But

it was neither. Just some contained areas. Makes the place feel really small. But also, it's all rather civilised. For all the talk of battling factions, as a community, New Vegas works. Most people living there are nice, pleasant people just getting on with things. Which sort of makes me feel like I don't have much of a role. It's like maybe they tried too hard to have us relate to everyone. Makes it feel like a place without danger, where I could only make it worse.

Same with much of what's going on around Vegas too. For all their moaning, the NCR have the place all under control quite nicely.

Most of the landscape is filled with nice, happy people.

I think I would have preferred more danger. More conflict.

But I love most of the landscape, the feel of the game and most of the actual game.

Anyone played any of the add ons?

                              Completed 2 at the weekend:

                              Old World Blues:

Really funny at times, lots to explore, cool weapons and perks as rewards, felt like a proper old fashioned retail expansion pack. Highly recommended.

                              Dead Money:

An attempt to make Fallout a survival horror. Doesn't quite work. The exploding collars being set off by radios is a cool mechanic at first but gets tiresome towards the end. There's a huge amount of backtracking around bland mazes, in the end I actually used a noclipping mode to get to where I wanted to be because it was so painful. Really nice self contained story and some neat characters though. Don't expect any great rewards from completing it.

Dunno if you have revisited the launch pad yet, but i am pretty sure I got teh same as you, and I had to make my way to the out side where teh launch pad was and stand on the platform to view the take off... I think that is what I did, give it a try, it might still work...

EDIT. On second thoughts I could be wrong, my memory is a bit hazy...

Dogg Thang, I too was dissapointed when I finally got into New Vegas :/
