    Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

Started this on 360 last night.

First of all, to get it out of the way, this is basically Assassin's Creed 2: More Missions. The art isn't much improved, the tech is basically the same, and the gameplay will be instantly familiar.

I know that some people will stay away just because of that, it does feel like a mission pack. But on the other hand, I can't see how this would've been possible as DLC because the amount of content here is pretty huge. Think Doom2 to Doom rather than Gay Tony to GTA4.

Not got far enough in to play about with the new bits and pieces yet (the brotherhood recruiting, and the new weapons like the crossbow), I'll update with more impressions over the weekend on how that works.

It lets you replay any mission now as many times as you like, and as each mission now has a bonus 'do this for 100% completion' objective, I can see myself going back and replaying it a bit. (Things like 'finish this section in under 8 minutes' or 'do not be seen' etc...)

For those who really liked the glyph puzzles in AC2 (I adored them, I'm weird like that), they're back and they seem to be a fair bit trickier.

I'd say if you really liked the previous one, this is pretty much a no-brainer. Normally games that don't add much new other than new levels aren't worth picking up, but when the game they're based on was so good in the first place I don't think 'more of the same' is that bad really.

I agree with parts are very similar, but there are a lot of areas later on that are different and improved. The lock on system is a lot better, as is the "fumbly" jumping between rooftops where you can randomly jump backwards for no good reason.

I love the multiplayer. It gets very tense at times as you see someone coming towards you who could be about to slice your throat. Very fun when you're playing in teams though.

    I also really enjoy the

present-day parts, and I liked there was a big chunk at the start that was really interesting

. Although, I'm confused as to why at the end of Assassins Creed 2

they said they were going to a cabin up north where they will be safe for a while, and they all of a sudden

    in Brotherhood

    turn up in Italy

    .

    Were they always

in Italy? I just assumed it was somewhere like New York or LA.

This! But its still pretty enjoyable so far - especially like the new approach to the lookout towers, the challenges for 100 sync and the way the bleed is being handled in the story. The Tombs are also wicked this time around...so far...

I was playing some Multiplayer today, it's pretty fun.
Really tense, especially after you've levelled up and you can have 3 or 4 people trying to kill you!

Oh dear, just hit the videogame comedy reference - it sticks out even worse than the last game's one...last time was pretty funny, this time I groaned a little.

Loving the way you can call in your assassin hit squad, I've dressed them all in green for some reason, think its a Robin Hood thing.

If thats the bit I'm thinking of I took a beating there too, ended up legging it and letting him reset into position and stealth assassinated him off his horse from a wall. I think I've taken a horse out then killed the rider, but the camera tends to go nutz in those situations so not sure how its done...

Best way I've found to kill guys on horses is to shoot them, pistol or crossbow, or call in your gang of mates to do it for you. You can do a horse to horse takedown as well, but they seem quite fiddly to get right.

Or just wait until you have no guys out on missions and use the arrow storm 'smart bomb'.

Whats up with the horses you can call, I took out some dude on a special mission and stole his wicked armoured up horse and after that for ages whenever I whistled it would come...then it stopped. I miss him.

Never played an Assassassin's Creed Game.

Should I skip the first, get the dirt-cheap sequel and by the time I've finished that, the 3rd should be in the bargain bin?

Should I get ACII or Batman: AA?

Do you know what, i've not even looked into AC Brotherhood since it was announced and only seen the ads on TV/ media etc. But i just assumed with the title brotherhood, that it was a full on multiplayer game for some reason.

I didn't know it was just AC 2.5 or 3 for single player. Bit disappointed now even though i do like the original two games

Out of the two AC games, get the second as its bigger, less repetitive, a lot of issue from the first were ironed out and theres more to do.

I hated Batman so i'd say AC2, but loads of people thought AA was ace so get em both. Should only be about ?7-10 apiece now

get arkham asylum. I'm a big fan of the assassins creed games, but AA is in another league.

Also I'd reccomend playing the games in order. You can get through the first one very quickly if you ignore all the extra stuff and just do the missions you need to progress.

Played a lot of this over Sunday am I'm enjoying it immensely.
I haven't played the previous games so I'm still missing a few tricks with regards to the controls; I can't chain kill, even in the tutorial so clearly I'm doing something wrong. The pop up says select next enemy during assassination with the L stick and then press square to kill them in one hit, but it's not working, should I be actively toggling them with L1? Also when running across the rooftops am I meant to hold in R2 and X all the time or only hit X when I want to jump?

The chain kill thing is new to this one, so not having played the previous one isn't a problem. Basically, while it's playing finishing move animation push the stick towards another enemy and then press attack as the previous finishing move ends. You'll need to be in 'locked on' mode for it to work, and some enemies will hit you while youre winding up for it anyway.

For the free-running, if you're not holding down X as you sprint, then you won't automatically jump as you reach edges etc... So if you're wanting to run but not leap off things, just hold down R2. Otherwise hold down X as well so you'll auto leap onto and off things.
