Im a huge GT fan, but im pretty disappointed, it aint a huge step from prologue, god its not even a huge step from GT4. Gotta say maybe Inafune was right cause this looks and feels 5 years behind the times, and that me playing with the G25 and seat. Im enjoying NFS HP more than this. PD are kidding themselves on.
p.s wish i didn't feel like this but do, i'll keep on playing maybe it will get better.

I think its alot better than prologue, the A.I. is improved despite what some people have said (though its still not great or anything) and its just alot more fun to play, to be honest I didnt get on with prologue at all but this seems to have the same kind of addictive nature that hasnt been seen in the series since the first couple of games.

Yes it somtimes looks absolubtley rubbish with certain tracks appearing to use PS1 era lighting effects and not much better textures (Im mainly thinking of the PGR style street ones here) but it features the best gameplay the series has ever seen.

Im enjoying all the special events too, they add alot more variety than we have seen in any other GT game I feel.

I have one major complaint though, the racing line verges on useless, especialy when doing license tests, if you do what it tells you to do you will never get a gold on half of them.

The driving physics knock all previous GT games and in my opinion, other driving games for six.

I'd jib the driving line off and use the suggested gear indicator instead.

Yeah, once I got rid of the racing line I managed to get all the golds on the B license pretty easily, where as before that I was getting bronze all the time.

The actual gameplay in this is great, of course thats only if you ignore the typical GT quirks such as being able to cheat by cutting across grass and the fact that its easy when you get a fast car.

None of that really bothers me too much as I was expecting it. One thing that is annoying are the menus though, but again, the menus in GT have always been a bit messy and always a chore to navigate.

Considering its so menu heavy you would think they would give that part of the series some kind of overhaul, but they dont seem to think it matters.

driving through chamomix in the snow was incredible. Using a wheel adds an awful lot to the experience I think. To anyone who says gt5 has no sense of speed, go do the first NASCAR special event. Pant crappingly fast!

THEY REMOVED THE GOD DAMN OVERVIEW MAP!!! Yes, the map where you previously selected events and visited car manufacturers is now gone. All sense of conquering and exploration is now gone for me. All events and car dealers are now contained in a sluggish menu, functioning like a mere check list for stuff you can do in the game. On top of this, the menus are crap. Going from one screen to another takes several seconds, and many options are only available at specific places. If you want to change a setting in the game (no matter how small or big) before a race, you have to back out of the whole event and reload the track after you are done. And loading tracks take ages. It wouldn't be so bad if the loading had been somewhat disguised (like it usually is in modern games), but in GT5 you are presented with a black screen with a good old loading bar, straight out of the PS1 game.

The car handling is undeniably cool, and the car selection is unmatched. So it seems to me that Polyphonys strength lies in these aspects: The cars themselves. An ideal solution could maybe have been to let Polyphony take care of the car design and handling, and let someone else be responsible for the overall game structure and design. I highly doubt Sony will let PD make another GT without some structural changes within the studio.

As it stands, this game is very underwhelming. I am still having fun with it, but after 5 years time, nothing less should be expected.

The driving line is terrible. After failing to get Gold on B-5 yet again I decided to just disable it. The braking points are wrong, and the line itself isn't optimal.

Record a second of silence and stick it on a loop, use that as your custom soundtrack. Best of both worlds.

Cheers, PeteJ. I did this and it works a treat. I created a 3 minute track of silence and exported it to mp3. I set the folder 'Play mode' to 'repeat'.

Only managed to have a quick go this morning before work as all my available time last night was sucked up by the install and set up. Tonight's clear though so I'll test the 3D settings as well. Tried one race and it seems alright. Me skipping GT4 probably helps, though it seems very smooth and clean looking. Still somewhat amusing how the driving model is so detailed and yet not representative of real driving at all. I ended up buying this weird little low end car so hopefully there'll be something with a bit of oomph unlocked soon

Racing itself feels like a "Sim" which for car nuts is great, but I find the whole thing cold and clinical. Does nothing for my "game gene" whatsover.

Try picking odd car choices and see how you get on! Like the little Honda Van I picked etc.

Last night I did the first set of kart races and really enjoyed those.

I thought this was the game that would have made me buy a current console again. I decided to hold off until I read some reviews and opinions on here, and i'm glad I did. Seems to be picking up a fair bit of negativity, and from what i've seen, it's nowhere near as impressive as i'd hoped it would be. All these install/loading times would hack me off no end. Such a shame, I had high hopes for it.
